Hey Buds,
I've been thinking that in addition to our long running and now-traditional threads, Jake, Jake, Jake and Heath, Heath, Heath, there might still be an opportunity here to add a new picture thread around here.
I thought it might be fun to have a thread dedicated to only photos of Heath and Jake together (you know me... I'm all about harmony and balance). For this thread, I thought the basic rule would be only photos of Heath and Jake together and out of costume (i.e. not in their Ennis and Jack roles).

GREAT idea for a thread! :) I remember how exited I was when they did that Oprah appearance, because it seemed it was the first time since the film premiered - at least in a long time - that H & J actually appeared together to be interviewed and interact when it wasn't some ceremony thingie. (Jake was filming Zodiac if I recall that correctly and had little time there for a while). Just seeing them come in together on Oprah made my day. :)
And I love the EW pics of the two of them. Mel sent me the magazine, to my delight, and I sure haven't tired of it, even after all this time! **goes to have another look**

Great pictures, I especially like the screenshot from Oprah where they are laughing, they really seem to be very good friends, that's the way you laugh only with good friends.
I really hope they will do another movie together in the near future! What would be a good project for them?

That is a nice pic... it's on the back of the DVD released of BBM way back in April 2006... or at least it's on my copy (the DVD cover with the white border and the Academy Awards headline on the top of the front cover).

Yeah, they do seem to be such good friends in the pictures, you can see the way they are smiling at each other, it's always a genuine smile that you only give really good friends. But definitely a brother-like love that developed from going through such an emotional ordeal of making a movie like this.
But I wonder about that, if they are still friends, well they must be pretty good friends for Jake to become the godfather of their daughter, but the paparazzi never do catch them all together, Heath, Michelle, Jake, etc.

Jake has been quoted as saying his godparents played a big role in his life and he takes the honor very seriously.

That's a good point, Dot, a very good point, and they are generally very good at not letting things like that happen, and I truly wish them a paparazzi-free life. They don't go looking for it, just wanna lead an as normal life as possible, and I applaud them for that.

Happens all the time :( Most of the stuff printed in those rags and on those web-sites and blog-sites is based on innuendo and gossip bearing no resemblance whatsoever to reality. It IS appalling and I see no reason to assume that they would treat Heath and Jake any different than they have treated anyone else. Many are still questioning Jake's sexuality to this day and swear he and Austin are lovers. Heck people on here have speculated about that much to my dismay given the sensitivities of this group. It's demeaning and disrespectful. Jake says he's straight and until he says otherwise people should take him at his word.

Well, Jake's supposed to be "with" Reese Witherspoon, and the only photo of them actually together that I've ever seen is this one. They certainly look like they're having fun together, but pal type fun. So if the media can say that Jake and Reese are together, with that nothing piece of evidence, imagine what they could do with Heath and Jake, with hardly any evidence.

Dear Susie, as always you are a good friend! Sorry for being gone for so long but we have been on vacation to Stockholm and after that to Kiruna. Now I'm back, one week more on leave and then back to buisness....Ner on leave from this obsession, BBM got me good....

Susie, sweetie, I realy wish it was a jet set life but.....My daugther lives in Kiruna during the winter, she studys at a Space school -like a senior high school - there and we went there to move her to a better apartment, one with a kitchen....it was 2 days of hard work but it came out nice....she has got Aspergers syndrom and a whip lash but still manages to live by her self and follow the courses at school almost full time so I'm very happy :D
I try to come to this thread just to load my batteries. I think you can understand that they sometimes need to do just that....
As you maybe know, Jake has some Swedish roots on his fathers side. Aproximatly 50 km from here a family Gyllenhaal lives, i sometimes work with the wife. I have never asked her about the relationship but I have heard her talk about it with others. It is a very distent relationship but her father in law has met Jakes dad once....It's a small world.....

This made me LOL. Do you other old timers remember the big brouhaha this caused? The wires at IMDb were burning up with pros and cons about Heath's actions, some people were mightily offended, friendships broken. I think Chez Trembley got started by someone who was pissed off about those who were coming down on Heath about his pose.

Don't be, you didn't know. The gist of the angry argument was that Heath was mocking gays and BBM by deliberately posing in an 'effeminate' manner.

They are definitely adorable together in this clip. But from what I understand, Heath had not been given the script before he went on, and I think he didnt even know he was going to have to do it. Therefore he was a caught a little off guard. Thats why all the silliness. Cute and adorable.. Thank you so much for posting this clip. Heath and Jake do truly look happy with each other. Its heart warming

Well, that's what I thought as well, Kate, that Heath had no idea what to say, hence their awkwardness out there and he was just being himself. But when others on the board defendeding Heath said the same, those who felt Heath was being insulting felt they were being condescended to by being called 'touchy' and 'overly sensitive'.
It was a big mess or much ado about nothing, I thought.
Heath actually had to defend himself later when he heard the ruckus - it hit the media. His mum had to step in and say publiclly that that was a normal pose for Heath in his daily life and someone even dug up a photo from his movie, "A Knight's Tale" showing Heath in the same pose.

I can't watch it again just yet :'(, but I loved the 'teapot' moment sooo much! I didn't understand why people got so upset! :-\ For me it was just seeing that an actor, brave in so many things he had done on-screen would be so utterly, charmingly nervous, sweet and jittery when standing in front of an audience. I was thinking about how I would be in front of so many people and wouldn't tremble, shake and stammer any less... :D :P

Yeah, in a lot of these shots of them hanging out at various awards shows and promotional gigs... they radiate a lot of nice chemistry between them. I'm sure this was super helpful in their performances in BBM and in a way I wonder if the the intensity of BBM and the chemistry they worked on for that continued to carry over into their real-life friendship afterwards.
In any case, it comes across as very charming in these photos.

I agree Amanda, in some of those pics they almost look like Jack and Ennis going to a formal gathering. LOL.
I bet making this movie together brought them really close and that sealed the friendship, but if I had to place my bets, I'd place my bets on them drifting apart shortly after the BBM thing died down. I think someone said that they moved around in different circles and that seems logical to me.

That's true, Amanda. One of my best friends I have only seen 6 times in my whole life because she lives in the US and I in Europe. Still love her to bits, though. So yes, I might e jumping to conclusions. And there's always cell phones. :)

My bet is that a lot of celebrity friendships are really "long distance"... it seems like relationships are that way too for celebs... because of their crazy work schedules/ unusual shooting locations, etc.
I still think the godfather thing is the strongest clue that Heath and Jake felt a pretty important real life bond. You just simply don't ask someone to be godfather to your child all that casually. Even if it's just symbolic... it seems pretty significant. And, at least it indicates that they were more than just work colleagues who got along.

Thanks. Yeah, I really like those pictures. And, the chemistry thing is so interesting to think about with these photos... because it seems to subtle... and it's hard to exactly pinpoint why they feel like they have such a great connection here in these shots. But, it just radiates out for me. The sense of chemistry is completely intangible and hard to describe here.

Exactly right. For all we know, and we don,t, they may have sent each other silly texts every day, or every other day, and kept in touch like that when they couldn,t meet up because of work. As far as I,m aware, Jake still hasn,t said anything yet since Heath left us has he? For some reason I can,t bring myself to say that D word. It,s too awful. :'(

i agree i know we all want them to be friends but also there has to be some bond.I thought deeply about who to have as my kids godparents.It was not a spur of the moment thing.Also my v. best friend I have not seen in 3 years because of emigrating but still speak weekly.

Having steeled myself to look at all these pictures,I am now even more perplexed as to why Jake has said nothing.I cannot be imagining the genuine laughter and smiles in some of the pictures.You cannot manufacture that ear to ear grinnning mirth that is dsiplayed in some shots.
I think I am in danger of becomming obsessive over this.I looked really hard at all the pics.and they do seem to display genuine affection.Not just say cheese variety.
If that is the case I cannot comprehend why there has been no word from Jake.I will still be a big fan,albeit a puzzled one.

Lots of things causing it.All come to a head t once.Oldest son and all his problems,husband robbed at store at gunpoint,and regret over lost chances/love,brought to full realisation by BBM.So too much in too short space of time.Thankyou for asking.I have been back to psychiatrist,who has prescribed yet more meds.!!!!! I am going to rattle soon!!!!
Am off to psychologist next week as I am fed up with all the meds.I have done really well for nearly 30 years.But recently my carefully constructed facade has started to crumble.Anyway tomprrow is another day so here's hoping for some light.

Thankyou so much Artiste.My husband got robbed last November.I had a really bad time then.It was horrendous watching the video of it all.I could hardly breathe.Anyway it all settled down a bit,and we continued to get ready for xmas etc.
It has all blown up again because the police have got a lead on someone who they think may be the gunman.So all the old wounds have reopened.My son is truly terrible at the moment and it all just happens at once.
However I do belive I am strong and will pull through this as well.It just sometimes feeld like it should be some one elses turn for a change!!!!
If there is a God and he only gives you what he thinks you can stand, he sure must think I am made of solid granite!!!!

You know, it's quite obvious that Heath and Jake were/are very close. It has been said they have more chemistry than their costars and girlfriends/exs.
I know for a fact that Jake was severely crushed by Heath's passing. You know how I know? Because I was severely crushed. At first, I thought it was sick joke but when it was leaking over and over everywhere, I was in total shock. I couldn't say anything. I was trying to stay in shock so I won't break down but my mom asked me what was wrong and I had open my big mouth. God, that was one of the worst days of my life. I didn't think that his death would affect me this hard. I'm still not over him, to tell you the truth. I hate the fact that he's no longer here and so does Jake. I don't know what it must have done to his heart. :'(

I think part of the affection we sense here has to do with the fact that while they're not acting in a scene at the exact moment the photo was taken... they're definitely in character.
So, I think here Jake is looking at Heath in the way that Jack would look at Ennis, etc. That's why I think the photo is so extraordinary.
But, I do think there was genuine friendship-affection between Jake and Heath that shows through here too.

On ennisjack.com (i think) there is a whole set of this. Heath and Jake were looking at futage they shot and Jake started laughing and Heath laughed along. Jake has a certain way of looking at people, it's not just Heath.

LOVE, LOVE those last 2 pics of them both together.They just show such camaraderie. Obviously in between takes and laughing over some of the footage I guess, just lovely.A really poignant reminder of what we have lost.I would have watched a movie the 2 of them made about paint drying!!!! Sadly that aint never gonna happen now.

I wonder if they're any more pics of Heath and Jake. And I got to tell you. Seeing those pics of Heath and Jake in their Ennis and Jack getup on the set of BBM, MilAn, it brings a smile to my face. :) I promise you. It makes me sad yet it brings back good ole' memories. It's good to see the boys together.
I wonder how Jake's doing right now in terms of moving on. I hope Reese helped him cope with his loss. I know I'm still doing that. WE all are.
It's just that I couldn't get the thought and image of Jake on the set of one of his upcoming movies, I believe it was called "Brothers", putting a picture of Heath on the wall because of one scene where it involves him being in jail and people put pictures of loved ones on their wall. I remember someone saying that Jake and everyone else thought it was cute but now that it was just heartwrenching. I believe Heath really was/is a good friend of Jake's. He has the honor of being the godfather of Matilda Rose.
I sure hope Jake checks up on Matilda every now and again, even though it's gonna be hard. She looks EXACTLY like her beautiful father.

I was reading some of Ted and Lisa's Exciting Adventure on LiveJournel and so far, it's brilliant. Jake is so funny and sweet. I like how he seems to make jokes and be on the serious side, too. And I love the story he told about how people would come up to him and tell him how BBM changed their lives. Especially mentioning Heath along with the conversation. He seemed like the type of person that you would love to engage in a conversation with.

There are beach pictures out there of Heath and Jake together? I'm sure there must be a lot of pics out there somewhere of the two of them together that haven't been posted yet.
It might be a fun image hunt to perform on the internet. For many of the earlier posts in this thread that I made, I remember running all sorts of interesting image searches to come up with some of the images.
At this point it really would be interesting to know if more images of the two of them have emerged (or will emerge). I feel like all of a sudden there are a lot more BBM out-take photos floating around then there ever were in the past. So, maybe more pics of Heath and Jake are still to be found too.

What a great thread! To see pic's of Jake an Heath together(which reveal the affection they had for each other) reminds me of how lucky I am to have my best friend Rick. I am lucky too, that I can tell him how much I love him when the urge strikes me. I think solid, genuine and unreserved same sex friendships are so important to ones well being. No doubt Jake will miss his friend for the rest of his life.

I know. It seems that their bond is something very unique out of all of the actor pair friendships I've seen in Hollywood. I mean there are other special Hollywood buddyships like Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson, Robert De Niro and Al Pacino, and Freddie Prince Jr. and Matthew Lillard. But Heath and Jake are very special out of all of them. And I know they both of them have other good best friends as well. But, they seemed to find that 'sweet pal love' within eachother. They seemed to represent what REAL male bonding, in a friendly way that is, is supposed to be like. I mean, there's absolutely nothing wrong with guys expressing how much they care about one another. As you said, retropian, they seemed very affectionate towards eachother. I could tell in ALL of the pictures and other stuff they were in together. Kind of like their BBM characters, except, they're just friends. But, still have that same fondness of being around eachother. It always makes me smile every time I think of them laughing and playing around. :) :)
You know what else? Just like Ennis and Jack, Heath and Jake seemed to be TOTALLY different from eachother in lots of ways:backgrounds, views, heritages, home places, etc. They're like opposites when it comes to approaching their acting skills and both are very talented actors, sorta like Ang Lee once said. Yet, they seem to be a very committed when working on a project. But, when they work together, they're like an unstoppable, kick ass team. Plus, they displayed some likeness toward eachother that I don't think any other two actors would've done if they were playing such complicated characters. They rock together.
Oh and atz, I really didn't mean when I was asking that if there were any Heath and Jake photos from the beach together. I meant if they're any more of them, individually, of them enjoying the sun. I always love looking at pictures of them at the beach or having fun in the water. :D
But, you know what? I think there are more photos of them that haven't surfaced yet. But, who knows? There are yet to be released IF there are some left. ;)
