Which one do you like the best? Or do you have a better idea? Please vote and then post your thoughts! :D
***POLL CLOSES MONDAY 2 JULY!!!***
-
I voted for "High Altitude Treasures." However, to be honest I think I'd prefer something that sounds more like the original line it's alluding to, but still gets the point across.
Like maybe, "High Altitude Thoughts." "Thoughts" sounds a little more like "f*cks" than "treasures" does, because they're both just one syllable, a soft vowel surrounded by (mostly) hard consonants.
But also, the forum IS full of high-altitude thoughts, in the sense that these threads represent lofty thinking and writing by a bunch of insightful intelligent people.
I also like The Oracle's Vault, but I chose the other one thinking that if anyone besides TOoP/Bruce ever contributes to this forum, that title won't be accurate.
-
That's a great name Katherine!!
I'm going to add that one to the poll right now! :D
-
Thanks, David!
-
I reconfigured the poll Katherine. You should be able to go back in and change your answer if you want to. :)
-
I think the Rewound becoming Revisited might be a good idea.
-
I voted other.
I think it should be called the Promised Land!
Because the Children of IMDB made an Exodus to escape the oppression of the the Evil Trolls! ;D
-
I voted for "High Altitude Treasures" but would prefer "Water Walkin' Wonderland" (WWW). Is that too over the top! :o ;) :D
-
Well, I voted "High Altitude Thoughts."
What I wonder is, is the emphasis of this particular forum more the archival quality, or more something else? I hope the name reflects whatever the answer to that is.
-
I think some of the names are good, but I stuck with "IMDb Remarkable Writings Revisited" because I like keeping the reference to IMDb in the title of the forum. Otherwise, many of those names could easily describe the Open Forum.
"Writings" could be changed to "Threads" to make it a tad shorter. :)
-
I agree with Meryl. I like the idea of keeping the imdb reference in the title because imdb is the common origin for most BetterMostians, not only the last wave of refugees; and naturally because those threads were first posted on imdb.
Additionally I think these two (IMDb Remarkable Writings Rewound and IMDb Remarkable Writings Revisited) are the most descriptive and clear of all suggestions. You read it and you know right away what this forum is about.
Third, I don't like the idea of naming a forum after a person, respectively after one person's screenname. Don't get me wrong: Bruce is the one who did all the work, and it is a big labour of love that he did, and I do appreciate it. But the threads in it and all the wonderful thoughts this forum contains are not all Bruce's doing. So I think it would not do justice to all the contributers of those threads to name it Oracle's whatever.
I don't like "Roundup" because that's already the name of our Social Forum's newsletter.
I also agree with Meryl, that many of those names could just as easily fit for our Open Forum.
I like both suggestions with imdb in it, but voted for 'rewound', not 'revisited' because it rings a bit nicer to my ears. But that's just a minor difference as far as I'm concerned.
-
I kind of like something a bit less...like IMBD revisited.
-
I was thinking more along the lines of High Altitude Thoughts: IMDb Revisited/Rewound because i like what someone else said about High Altitude Thoughts sounding like High Altitude F**ks, but to still keep some part of IMDb to recognize the fact that this is where all these great threads originated from.
;) ;) just my humble opinion ;) ;)

I second that completely!

I like that, too!

My vote goes to High Altitude Thoughts: IMDb Revisited.
Or High Altitude Haunts: IMDb Revisited.
-
I voted for Shrine of the Oracle as that name was similar to a poster on the old IMDB.com BBM board.
I agree with Meryl that IMDB.com should be in the name. Right offhand, I can't think of anything ethereal that coincides with IMDB.com. "Shades of IMDB.com," how does that sound? Probably too vague. :)
-
I like Meryl's suggestion, "IMDb Remarkable Threads Rewound." Or maybe a shorter synonym in place of "remarkable." But definitely the 3 other words, "IMDb" for reasons others have mentioned, "threads rewound" because "threads" is catchier and more succinct than "writings" and, I know my brain is weird, but -- you can wind thread.
"IMDb Fine Threads Rewound"??
I agree about not naming it for the Oracle, mostly because there are HUNDREDS of threads worth transferring and it would suck to discourage folks from pitching in on that ginormous undertaking -- or from continuing to discuss, post-transfer -- if it seems to them like a shrine.
(Hiya, Oracle. Luv ya to bits, Bud. I haven't pitched in much yet, but I'll keep trying.)

Many threads have other Brokie's names in them, but a lot of different people post in them. I know this is a whole forum, but if it was named after someone, it wouldn't bother me to still post in it. That's just me, tho.
-
I second that completely!
Dagi
I third, or seventh it!

When it comes to naming things, I have tried to be a bit clever, but not at the expense of confusing potential browsers as to what a forum is all about. We had months and months of confusion about what Chez Tremblay was all about, and I think a lot of our users didn't really feel comfortable posting in there when the first wave of IMDb refugees arrived because it suggested it was a private club. It took a lot of cajoling and welcoming to get reluctant people to join.
Having a name that says absolutely nothing about what the forum is about (except perhaps to those with 'inside' knowledge) will definitely create a forum "ghetto," in the sense it will almost certainly be confined to users who already know what the forum is about. We have worked very hard to make sure people do not feel this place is a closed clique, with our Welcome Wagon personally welcoming every new user here as much as we can, and inviting them to participate. We absolutely want to make new residents as welcome as those who have been here since the beginning.
If we want to recognize someone like Bruce who is doing most of the heavy lifting, remember every forum also has a text description which can expand on the forum's purpose.
BTW, with the results so far, it looks like we may need a runoff. :)

I voted "other."
I like "IMDb Fine Threads Rewound"

I like that simpler thing also...I thought of IMDB Rewired

I voted "Other" as well, but I think TrollHammer in onto something here with "IMDb Fine Threads Rewound. As TrollHammer pointed out, you can wind thread... and thread can also be fine (as in thickness). Of course, in this case "fine" would mean great.

How about True Oracle's Treasures? Kinda cheesy, but I think it has a ring to it. I missed the voting deadline, but I would have chosen "The Oracle's Vault!" I really like that!
