We hope to begin beta testing a new telephone service for our residents that will allow anyone to have their own publicly-dialiable telephone number that can be directed to your own private voicemail box and, if you are in North America, can let you forward those calls to any other phone number you wish (no numbers outside of North America at this time however). There will be no charge for this service (and will probably stay that way).
Uses:
Every member here can get their own phone number in the Riverton, Wyoming exchange. You will have your own personal voicemail box, so if you wanted to reach out and let other residents here call you, they can call your private number here and you can then call them back.
Or, more powerfully, you can log into the website control panel and put a number(s) where you'd like calls to your Wyoming number forwarded to (and it's adjustable so you can turn it on or off or change the number you want calls to be forwarded to). This lets anyone you wish call you at your Wyoming number and the call will be forwarded automatically at no charge to you. It keeps your home phone/cell phone number private - only you will know.
Voicemail messages are delivered automatically as sound files to your e-mail address that you specify.
BetterMost can then publish our own community directory with telephone numbers of residents (unless you want it unlisted).
If you are interested in this service, I am putting together a waiting list, first-come, first-served, as numbers become available in the Riverton, Wyoming exchange. Just reply to this message indicating you are interested and I'll PM you as the service becomes available. The voicemail feature is open to everyone, regardless of where you live.

so my actual cell/home phone will stay private to everyone? Even admin?

We are able to get two telephone numbers assigned at a time, and then a request goes in for additional numbers. Because Riverton is a small city, it is taking a bit longer than anticipated to get new numbers assigned from the phone company. I am checking daily for new allotments, so I will get to you in the order in which you requested to participate, so hang in there.

We are still waiting on numbers in the Riverton exchange, but I have two numbers available in nearby Lander, Wyoming. If you've already expressed an interest in this project prior to this, and wouldn't mind a Lander number, let me know by replying. I also can assign numbers for other communities in Wyoming. There is probably going to be a chance to change your number is a number of Riverton numbers open up later. If you want another community, you'd have the same area code, but you'd be assigned a number further away from Riverton. It's your choice - and these are open to everyone who wants to join in after this message, first come, first-served. If you prefer to wait for a Riverton number, I am sure they will be forthcoming, and I'll assign them in the order of people who requested participation in this thread.

I did want to update everyone on this project. I am -still- waiting to obtain numbers in the Riverton exchange, which is apparently pretty full up at the moment because they are not releasing new numbers into the pool yet. I am checking every few days and they are prioritizing regular dial service customers at the moment. The other exchanges are available, and while it doesn't really fit with the theme I was going for, I do have access to numbers in Childress, Texas if anyone preferred to have one of those instead. So if you are interested in a Lander number or a number in one of the other Wyoming towns, just let me know which one you want and we'll proceed. Same with Childress. If you want to hold out for a Riverton number, hang in there.

I'd go for Lightning Flat myself! :D Is it part of one of the communities above? Maybe Sheridan?
