assaabirah - assaabirah is "patient, enduring, perseverant, steadfast woman".
It's strange, "patient" doesn't sound like a very positive trait of character in English, but "a.s.sabr" is positive for an Arab. This virtue
is mentioned sixty-two times in the Holy Qur'aan.
Tons of ink have been written about that virtue, it's central to the Arab culture (and to islam as well). A saying goes "assabr miftaah alfaraj",
which means "sabr is the key to peace of mind".
Because it is in roqah this means that most arab speakers will understand it. It is very clear. All literate Arab speakers should understand it.
In print, Roqah is like Helvetica and Naskh is like Times Roman. In handwritting, the most common Western handwritten styles (Morocco, Algeria... ) look more like Naskh and the Eastern (Iran, Iraq, Siria...) styles look more like Roqah. Everybody knowing can read both, anyway.
These kinds of large-scale tattoos can be magnificent to look at, but their artistry comes at the expense of the body's own natural and artless beauty.
Wow, this is the first I've learned of anyone with a Brokeback tattoo! That is just too cool! :D
My last tattoo, I got after traveling to NYC, Texas, Florida, Oklahoma, MD, to meet people from DCF. Brokeback helped me get a lot of things in perspective, and I wanted to have a tribute to that movie, and all the wonderful things that have happened to be because of it, so I got the 3rd tattoo on my left arm, just above my first one.

What body-art do you have? Or would like? or have always fancied if you could pluck up the courage? Or do you hate the stuff with a passion!?!
I wanted to get one of a small scorpio, the smallest there is, I mean TINY, but they said they couldn't do it, because it has to be a certain size and it was way too big for me. :-\
Dev, you are one cool Mum!!
I guess you can say I have another tattoo on my ass. I sat on an ink pen when I was a kid, and it broke the skin, leaving a little blue dot. It’s hardly noticeable. It may have faded to nothing. I don’t know. I don’t look at that area too much.
That happened to me too. I stepped on a ink pen when I was about 10 years old which broke my skin and left a black spot on my left foot. It has faded but I had it for quite some time.
I still have mine. I was doing my all-over beauty treatment this weekend, and noticed it. You want I should post a picture of it or something?
here are photos of my tattoo! it's a bracelet that wraps around my right ankle. I love it! Eventually I'd like to get a small vine tattooed around my wrist. Click on photos to enlarge.

Of all my piercings, my navel took the longest to heal--close to a year.
To get the jewelry switched, I did go back to the piercing shop and I am glad I did. I would have been a nervous wreck trying to do it myself! And even though they are completely healed, it still did hurt a little bit. The other thing that has been on my mind is my annual mammogram. Do I take them out for that? After yesterday I decided no. I'd be too worried that the holes would close up and that I couldn't get the jewelry back in myself. And besides that, they are part of me. If the technician has a problem with that, well then, that's her problem, right?
L
So you don't change anythin but your earrings the rest you get switched at the shop? i find changeing my navel pierecing really really easy, but I can kinda understand the nipple one being a bit tricky. But they won't start closing up for at leats a week, I'd say.
And you're right as long as it doesn't interfere with the proper mamogram its the technicians problem if they dont like it..
Tricky, yes, but I also don't totally understand how the jewelry works. (I hope this doesn't make me sound like a moron!) With the captive bead, the guy at the shop uses these special pliers. Even with the segment ring (the one I am wearing now), he held it gently with the pliers and slipped the little segment piece in. I am not sure how I would maneuver that to do it myself.
My first tat was done on my left shoulder 18 years ago adn i had it redone a while back.. its a nice size rose with my daughter's name Ashley inked in a banner through the stem..
amy brown fairy?
Luckily for Ashley, her name is suitable for both sexes, so if she doesn;t want to change it, she doesn't need to.
wow! i love it! a little too big for me i dont think I could go through the pin but I love the colours and the lifelike fairy.Thank you Kelda. I really didnt realize it was gonna be so big. Oh well. I love her!
Here's a pic of my Amy Brown Fairy. She's on my inner right calve. It is big, and it did hurt. She was done in about 4 hours in one sitting... :Dlove the fairy it's very cute, i was just talking with a friend today who was also talking bout getting a tattoo with an amy brown design, never heard of her b 4 today
always wanted to get a tat but never had the courage (low pain tolerance) but i been thinking it more latley and decide to get one in the next few weeks.
as to piercings i have 3 in each ear lobe but one lot closed up years ago and another one in the top of my left ear which i got done bout 10yrs ago and last but not least my tongue done 5 yrs ago.
ah nearly forgot my nose which i ain't had much luck with twice in less than a yr and both times closed up with in a week, last time i got it done was just before Christmas and they didn't do it right.
love the fairy it's very cute, i was just talking with a friend today who was also talking bout getting a tattoo with an amy brown design, never heard of her b 4 today
go for it bec if you can do multiple piercings you can do a tat!
Guys! I'm getting a tattoo next week. Been thinking about it for about a year now, and it's about time I got one... :D
Guys! I'm getting a tattoo next week. Been thinking about it for about a year now, and it's about time I got one... :D
I have been thinking about getting a tattoo for years and years. I always said I wanted a sun tattoo but I could never find a picture I liked. Now, I keep looking at that picture of Heath's leaf tattoo and thinking, "Maybe I should get that one." I think it's very pretty. I wouldn't put it on my hand though. Maybe my upper back/shoulder. Thoughts, anyone? Anyone want to encourage me?
L
GO FOR IT!! I think it would be a wonderful tribute to Heath. I know how much you love Heath. What better way to show that than getting his tattoo on your shoulder.. Yes definitely your shoulder. Its a very pretty tat and it looks good on him.. I also love the one on his wrist.
Then I need to find out how to find a good artist who will do a fabulous job. Any suggestions on that, Dev?
L
Checked out that link Kelda.
Didn't know Jake had a tattoo.
Neither did I! Do you think its real? It looks like part has rubbed off?
http://www.vanishingtattoo.com/tattoo/celeb-gyllenhaal.htm
Wow Mwl - I love it! So simple, but so right!
I just threw up the entire contents of my stomach. Sorry to be so judgmental, but WHAT. A. FREAK.
Kelda, what is that stuff laying on the blue blanket? Is that her flesh?
The end result does look nice...at least in that picture. I wonder how it will look over time?
mhhhmmm... yucky isn't it!?!
Hey, I just found this thread and i thought I'd add my two bits if that's alright.
I went though a little rebellious stage when i was sixteen. Without my parents permission. I got a eyebrow piercing and a labret a few weeks later. The labret hurt the most. Dear god..... It hurt..... ::)
I dont have them anymore, i kinda grew out of them. But i think they looked hot on me...... ;D
Tattoos on certain spots are nice. But i'm bot into piercings. ;)
The worlds most pierced woman is based in Edinburgh, although she is Brazilian.
I wasn't aware that Brazil has the highest crime rate in the world, so I learned something.
And EEEEK -- 500 genitalia piercings!!!!! :o :o OMG!! One is too many in my opinion. LOL
my thought was how the hwell she fits them all in!!!!
Anyway, we started talking and I explained why I wanted to get a tattoo and Heath and etc. She said, "Oh my God, when Heath Ledger died, I cried for two days." I took this as a good sign of being on the same wavelength

I found a red maple leaf on the ground today that looked just like the tattoo - only remarkable because I live in South Florida where there are very few maple trees and the leaves don't usually turn. It looked just like a fall leaf from up north.
Leslie, I think you're in good hands with her and the date you'll get it done adds to this feeling. I really believe this is meant to be. Go for it!
I'd say no colors, stem up. Exactly as it is in the right pic.
Huh? ???
I'm such a mess! Leslie, it made me cry. I am so happy and proud of you and for you.
I can't wait for mine.
O0
i'm happy for you Leslie! Do you like it? It turned out really awesome. Maybe the artist could touch it up a bit with some shading. I think Heath's had more of that. Have you decided not to add color? Way cool Leslie! yay
Lydia, the Tattooed Lady (sung by Groucho Marx in "At the Circus")
Music by Harold Arlen
Lyrics by E.Y. Harburg
Oh Lydia, oh Lydia, say, have you met Lydia?
La-la-la...la-la-la.
La-la-la...la-la-la.
When her robe is unfurled she will show you the world,
if you step up and tell her where.
For a dime you can see Kankakee or Paree,
or Washington crossing The Delaware.
La-la-la...la-la-la.
La-la-la...la-la-la.
Oh Lydia, oh Lydia, say, have you met Lydia?
Lydia The Tattooed Lady.
When her muscles start relaxin',
up the hill comes Andrew Jackson.
Lydia, oh Lydia, that encyclo-pidia.
Oh Lydia The Queen of them all.
For two bits she will do a mazurka in jazz,
with a view of Niagara that nobody has.
And on a clear day you can see Alcatraz.
You can learn a lot from Lydia!
La-la-la...la-la-la.
La-la-la...la-la-la.
Come along and see Buffalo Bill with his lasso.
Just a little classic by Mendel Picasso.
Here is Captain Spaulding exploring the Amazon.
Here's Godiva, but with her pajamas on.
La-la-la...la-la-la.
La-la-la...la-la-la.
Here is Grover Whelan unveilin' The Trilon.
Over on the west coast we have Treasure Isle-on.
Here's Nijinsky a-doin' the rhumba.
Here's her social security numba.
La-la-la...la-la-la.
I'll get mine done on Monday. I'm not saying anything about it yet :-X
But I'll show you when it's done.
Kerstin and I will go together, she's getting her third tat, for me it will be my first. I'm a bit nervous, because it'll be an armband, all the way round my upper right arm. And everybody keeps telling me how much it hurts on the inside of the arm :-\ ???
You've had three babies. Trust me, the tattoo is small potatoes compared to that!

oooh! cmon C tell! tell!!!
Damn, I was never good at keeping my trap shut
Do you know the tribal armbands with a motive in the middle? It will be a purple flower, but instead of a meandering tribal around the arm it will be a variation of Heath's wrist tattoo; same lines but between them a rope as reminiscence to our boys. Looks better than it sounds.
Oh, exciting! Good luck. I can't wait to see it!
You've had three babies. Trust me, the tattoo is small potatoes compared to that!
L
I was watching an episode of the amazing race today and this team of two sisters are doing a tax which involves crushing 15 trunks of asugar cane for the juice through this wringer thing and they're having a bit of tourble and one says to the opther cmon dig in - its like pushing our babies out - we can do it!
And the other one says (or should I say wails) I had a C Section remember!?!
You're probably waiting for feedback - *sigh*
I haven't get it done today :(.
We were there and the tatto artist told me my motive won't work. He said you can't do straight lines around the arm without anything that interrups them. He said they would never get really straight. I said it does not have to look like the lines were drawn with a ruler, but he said no.
Long story short, I can have my motive, but not around the arm, only as a stand-alone motive on the outside of the arm. Fine by me. It's not so important how far it goes around the arm; it's more important to me to get the motive I decided for.
But on Mondays they have only reduced opening hours because he is alone on Mondays. The studio was crammed with eight people waiting (he actually sent people away) and he didn't have the time to sit down and draw a proper tattoo flash from my layout/sketch. :(
But I do have a fix appointment for tomorrow afternoon. He will have done the drawing till then.
Kerstin's tattoo was smaller and she had drawn it herself (a few scattered stars on the inside of the wrist, small ones only). So he did hers today.
I'm a bit frustrated. But if everything works out tomorrow like it want it to, it will be worth the additional waiting day.
I am sure you are disappointed, Chrissi. But...you want it to be right. It is better to wait 24 hours! In the big scheme of things, 24 hours is not that long.
L
Oh I can understand your disappointment, Chrissi, but I bet you will have it done tomorrow and be really happy that he thought this through with you!
Can't wait to see your tattoo! Good luck tomorrow!
aww shame Chrissi - but yay for tomorrow!!!
Leslie, your tat looks great!
Some pics please Ms Mercury!
And Chrissi - *why are we waiting!!*
Oh Chrissi, it looks great. I like the lines and the rope, I like the dot and I like the flower! Yahoo! Good job!
Any reaction from the family?
Now...good aftercare. No soaking in water, keep out of sun, and moisturize!
L
looks great!!!
:-*
It looks amazing, Chrissi! Welcome to the club! :D :-*
Thank you Chuck and Fabienne :)
The foil (saran wrap) makes me crazy. It rustles with every movement, and because it's so near to my right ear, I hear it very good.
I'm counting the days till I can leave it off (Sunday!).
But everything is healing fine, it doesn't itch (yet?).
Chrissi-it's beautiful, I really like it. I had my consultation for my tat today. My appointment is April 4th and I am planning a second one sometime in December to commenorate my 3 year anniversary of being a Brokie.
O0
Mine didn't have a wrap at all, but maybe that was because it was small? I don't know, mine didn't itch that much either, only after two weeks!
Good on you Bliss! Leslie if this is not a reason to trade in those airmiles ti come to Brussels in August to compare tats I don't know what is!!!
Your tattoo artiste obviously knew what he was doing because it looks so natural, like a leaf fell down on your arm. It's very well done.

I have never had a tattoo, never wanted one, and my husband was vehemently opposed, but now that he is no longer my husband, I have been thinking about it. I have wanted a tattoo as a tribute to Heath, well, since January. I even have it planned out in my mind and just need to sketch it. Anyone know how to find a good tattoo artist?
Royux - you never did come back and post the pic of your tat. Did you get it done?
Ouch...
We went together, Monika got her first. I have mine on the upper part of the arm, Monikas is below the elbow. Mine did hurt some, the skin is thinner where I put it but it was not a big deal. I'm so happy for it and to do it with Monika and Sonja was spot on!! I keep singing "I feel pretty, oh so pretty...", I really feel that way! :-* :-*
And here is the finished result
(http://i50.photobucket.com/albums/f322/buffymon/tattoo5.jpg)
(Berit - I don´t got a good one of your finished tattoo!)
Today my - and Monikas - tattoo became one week old! I'm so happy to have my beatiful leaf on my arm an in my mind I'm planning for the next one!:-* :-* (((Berit))
(((Berit))8)
I´m also feeling open to the idea of another one. It´s somewhat addictive
Is your tattoo healing properly?
8)
Yes, it is healing fine. I'm so pleased with is. I've started to think about a bracelet now.... 8)
what a about the pain?
who did go first? How long did it take?
Another idea is a regular tatto, instead of a bracelet. Could be done either on the inside of my wrist upwards (like in the pic). Or a bit higher, but still below the ellbow, and on the outside of my forearm. Or starting on the inside and winding to the outside.I really like the dots very much too in this tattoo. Makes it more interesting.
Here's one I like:
What I don't like in this one are the black endings , whatever they're supposed to be. But I like the lines combined with the dots.
that´s my favorite too. I like the simplicity and the fact that it almost look like a regular bracelet. That´s one thing I like about Heath´s wrist tattoo; from afar it looks like a bracelet. It works almost like an illusion.
The last one is my favorite so far. I like the simplicity of it. The general idea is to get something like twine, but instead of flowers added, I would rather add five leaves. The five leaves would stand for the five members of my family (but of course the association to Five Leaves didn't escape me).
