I chose:
1. Barry Humphries as Dame Edna Everage - Dame Edna is an Australian icon. She has been a part of my life for most of my life. I first saw her on stage when I was a teenager, with my parents. I love her.
2. Matt Lucas in "Little Britain" - I think Matt Lucas is a phenomenally talented comic actor, in and out of drag. I love "Little Britain."
3. Terence Stamp in "Priscilla, Queen of the Desert" - I thought the part Terence Stamp played in PQOTD was filled with tenderness and compassion. It was a lovely part and he played it beautifully.

I LOVE Barry Humphries. S/he's a riot!!  Definitely my favorite!
Dustin Hoffman is a close second. I loved Tootsie. I was managing a theater (actually three of them) when Tootsie was released, and we played the film on two screens for over a month. It kept selling out, over and over again. I'll never forget that. I'd have to stand up on top of the ticket counter with a microphone and speaker and announce to all the people queued up that "the movie has been sold out, for all showings, on both screens for the entire day". It kept selling out. We'd have lines queueing up from the front of the movie theater, all the way down the main entrance of the mall to Lazarus Department Store, and THEN wrapping back the other way all the way back to the cinema! For over a month! It was crazy!

"Tootsie" was very popular here in Oz, too, David! I loved it! :D
(P.S., David, you get to vote for your favourite 3. I think you may have only voted for 1?)

How about Tony Curtis and Jack Lemmon in Some Like it Hot?

I haven't seen all these choices (most egregiously having missed Swank in Boys Don't Cry), but I opted for Barry Humphries (so supremely witty and charming as Dame Edna), Dustin Hoffman (disappeared into the role of Dorothy), and Terence Stamp (lovely understated performance as the fearless Bernadette); Barbra Streisand as Yentl is also quite good, but I didn't see her disappear into the role like these other performers.
My very favorite drag role isn't listed here--Tim Curry as Dr. Frank N. Furter in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Dynamic actor/singer making an unforgettable film debut in a challenging role.

Oh my gosh you are so right..That was amazing..I love that movie...It has a great cast too.
We always watch it sometime around the holidays...
I particularly liked tony curtis in some like it hot..he made a good looking woman..
-
Hilary Swank made a good looking boy! ::)
-
Definitely Matt Lucas!
-
williams, hoffman,stamp--- of the choices offered, but the list of choices could be expanded
all three of them created believable characters (not caricatures) imho

Hugh Laurie appeared in drag at various points in Black Adder, Jeeves and Wooster, and A Bit of Fry and Laurie. Hilarious every single time.
-
I voted Cate Blanchett. Thats partly because I have had a crush on her since I was young though. I also voted Hilary Swank and Terence Stamp.
But two of my other absolute favourites are missing from that poll.
Johnny Depp in "Before Night Falls" and Peter Outerbridge in "Better then Chocolate".

I know it wasn't in a movie, but remember Jake on SNL?.... 8)
