Title: Pick Your Candidate
Post by: Shasta542 on October 02, 2007, 11:09:39 pm
Take the quiz. It will rank all the current presidential candidates from the one whose ideals are most like yours to the one whose are least like yours. Post the one who made your top (and bottom) if you want to.

My candidate was John McCain--he scored 30 on my quiz. I think my least likely candidate was Dennis Kucinich.

More political controversy  :D Actually I love that we can talk about controversial stuff and hear each other.

Here are my top 5:

Chris Dodd - 55 - disagreed on Iraq and Line-Item Veto
Mike Gravel - 50 - disagreed on Iraq, Line-Item Veto and Energy (I have no clue who this is...)
Dennis Kucinich - 50 - disagreed on Iraq, Immigration, and Line-Item Veto
Barack Obama - 48 - disagreed on Iraq, Line-Item Veto, and Death Penalty
Hillary Clinton - 48 - disagreed on Iraq, Line-Item Veto, and Death Penalty

I've been waffling between Obama and Clinton and I think the same scores and points of disagreement indicate some of what I've been reading in the press - that neither of them is distinguishing themselves in any significant way.  A good friend whom I respect greatly has been urging me to check out Kucinich, maybe I will.  My least likelies were Fred Thompson and Mike Huckabee.

Thanks for posting this, Shasta - Interesting for sure.

Very interesting, Shasta!

My top was also Chris Dodd, then Hillary/Obama/Gravel tied for a close second.  Only Tancredo agreed with me on Iraq, so I guess I'm not too with it on the popular thinking.  ::)

I think I'm going to start a poll about this Iraq question - I understand my own rationale, but maybe I'm missing something too...

I was hoping Joe Biden would be my pick, followed by Obama and then Clinton  Maybe it's just my mood today.   ;)   I don't even know some of the candidates that scored near the bottom in my test scores. Who are these ppl?? Well at least RON PAUL has said that 9/11 and IRAQ weren't connected. He has gotten some flack for it.   He would be the only GOP candidate I would consider.

Although I'm not an US citizen, I took the quiz  ;D

My top candidate was Chris Dodd, scored 51 points; disagreed about Iraq and Stem Cell Research (and I don't even know who he is  ::)).

The lowest were Tom Tancredo and Fred Thomson, both, scored 3 points; disagreed in everything but Stem Cell Research.

All top eight candidates for me were Democrats, all nine lower results were Repuplicans (plus Thomson).
Gues I know for which party I'd vote if I were to vote... ;D

I came up with Dennis Kucinich as my top candidate and the only thing we disgreed on was healthcare. I said NO to universal healthcare but only because I think it is completely unrealistic in this country. I am not opposed to the concept, per se, so I guess I could agree with Dennis on everything. Unfortunately, his chances of getting elected are slim to next-to-nothing. I also scored high with Chris Dodd, too. (Chrissi, he is a Senator from Connecticut. His father was a Senator, too.)

My lightning rod issues are the death penalty and a constitutional amendment for gay marriage. (I oppose both). Unfortunately, the front runners, Clinton and Obama are both pro-death penalty. Not that it really matters much, in the big scheme of things right now. I think there are more important issues to be dealt with, such as Iraq. But they both hold opposite views from me on that one, too!

Yes, I try really hard not to have a single issue or two that are make or break for me; the world is complex and things are not black or white.  I have some family who I love, but they apply a litmus test about abortion that drives me nuts - they are staunchly anti-abortion.  We've discussed it before - I mean, mostly no one is actually pro-abortion - it's more a question of a woman's right to choose and keeping the government out of a doctor/patient relationship for me.  So these really good people end up voting for candidates who have no interest in improving health care or dealing with poverty or improving education - all things that they are also 'for' because of a single issue - narrow-minded and unrealistic, imo.  Also, I wonder what some of the candidates truly believe versus what they publicly say to appeal to the largest voting bloc. ???

Very well put, Lynne.  Those hot button issues all too often serve to get candidates elected despite their weaknesses in other areas.  Campaign managers are experts in the art of button-pressing.  As Cassie would say, "Gets tiresome."  ::)
