Title: Are you a dipper or a squirter? (This is FOOD poll, people!)
Post by: MaineWriter on October 04, 2007, 10:21:29 am: On the "Comfort Foods" thread on Bettermost People, I made the observation that there are two types of people in the world: those who squirt ketchup all over their french fries, and those who make a neat little puddle to dip them in. I, myself, am a dipper, and have raised my children to be dippers, too. What about you? Are you a dipper or a squirter? Tell us what condiment you like best to dip or squirt on the related condiment poll! Have fun, everyone!

Mostly of mayo. Sometimes tomato.

The only think I would squirt over my chips would be some vinigear.

Sometimes after a night out particularly, I might have chips and cheese or chips and curry sauce where they are layered over the chips but that is an exception to the rule.

Actually, it depends. With ketchup, I would rather dip, but with gravy, the fries would have to swim in it! However, I'd rather eat my fries plain than ruin them with mustard or mayonaise... :P

I eat pizza with a knife and fork, too! If I don't, I burn the roof of my mouth, and it's sore for a week, and I hate that, because I like to be prepared in case I want to use it for something other than eating. ... 8) :laugh:

It's amazing how fast a discussion of food can get inappropriate. This is all Leslie's fault.

However, in my younger days, I ate french fries with mayonnaise. Usually I would get one of those little packets of mayonnaise, use a fork to pierce a tiny hole in it (or bite off the corner, to get as small a hole as possible), then decorate a mound of fries with little swirls and squiggles.

I haven't done that in forever, though. Mayonnaise isn't much more than egg whites and vinegar and not at all good for you. I've really been trying to eat healthy.

Actually whole eggs and oil, with a little bit of vinegar or lemon juice. And in moderation, mayonnaise is not going to kill you. An endless diet of fried foods is worse.

Pizza is a fork food too, if you dont want it all over you...I think. Toast, bread and bacon are about the only things i eat with my hands.

Ketchup on french fries - preferably with a little hot sauce mixed in! I have seen my son dip Wendy's french fries in a Wendy's Frosty - don't laugh - salty and sweet is a great combo. (And I have to admit he may have picked up this idea from me - a very guilty -and rare - pleasure of mine is to use softened vanilla ice cream as a dip for potato chips!) ;D

I'm not big into french fries, but once in a while as a side to a burger, they're good.. Dont really like burgers either. And I usually steer clear of fast food too.

Regarding mayonnaise, homemade is so much better than store-bought. I use just the egg yolks for a richer taste. Occasionally I'll add a little toasted sesame oil, which adds a lot of depth, and is great on asparagus. Yum.

The Greasy Chip Butty Song is a football chant mainly sung by the supporters of Sheffield United football club, but has been adopted and adapted by fans of several other teams including Rotherham United and St Helens Rugby League. The originator of the song is unknown however it was first sung during Sheffield United's first match of the 1985-86 season in Division 2. This was a Blades 3-1 away win at Stoke City's Victoria Ground on 17th August 1985.

To a native of Sheffield the words are probably self explanatory; the words celebrate the many pleasures that can be had in Sheffield, culminating in the target of the fan's adoration, Sheffield United.

Magnet refers to John Smith's Magnet, a beer once widely available in Sheffield. Some people claim that the second line is really Like a gallon of maggots. Maggots are obtained from fishing tackle outlets in denominations of imperial pints and hence this version would not be unreasonable, as fishing is popular in the region and hence a gallon of maggots would mean a good day out fishing.

Woodbines refers nostalgically to a once popular brand of strong cigarette.

Snuff is ground tobacco for sniffing up the nose.

A Greasy chip butty can be purchased in any of the many local fish and chip shops. Butty is a slang word for sandwich, so a chip butty is simply a sandwich where the filling is chips, ideally greasy and sprinkled with salt and vinegar. Generally, a white sandwich bap will be used for the bread. In Sheffield, these are simply known as Breadcakes.

The song itself is a plaintive rally-cry by the fans of Sheffield United. It is usually heard on commencement of the home games played at 'beautiful' downtown Bramall Lane, the home of the club, and sporadically throughout away matches.

They look different from the deep-fried Oreos they had at the Renfaire I went to last month. The ones at the faire were completely coated so that after they were fried, they almost looked like Nilla wafers.

I like my french fries with catsup and lots of salt. I salt the french fries, AND the catsup! :laugh:

Nothing better in the whole wide world than salty french fries and pop corn. :D

And I mix catsup and mayonnaise together and put it on my hamburgers. My Grandpa taught me that one.
