Title: Cartoon Fun!
Post by: Phillip Dampier on October 05, 2007, 10:18:18 pm
This is our thread of embedded video cartoons found online.  I have a big preference for the Warner Brothers stuff, so you'll find lots of that to view here.  Warner Brothers Merrie Melodies are probably my favorite classic cartoons.  My favorite character, and the one closest to my crazy in-person personality (as opposed to the online me) is probably Daffy Duck....  It's that cynical sense of humor.  I'm also a big fan of Foghorn Leghorn, but the classic Bugs Bunny-Yosemite Sam ones are fun too.

So take some time out, sit back, and laugh!

(I am modifying the player code here on my posts to enlarge the video somewhat to a size that gives you a bit more viewing room without it being so large it shows off the video anomalies present in a lot of full screen stuff.)

One of the better and most well-known encounters between Daffy & Bugs:

And now for something both new and old.  Harvey Birdman manages to bring cartoon favorites from the past into a modern day cross between LA Law & a Superfriends episode.  Clever, but often dealing with more adult subjects.  These will be in production order.  Things got crazier as the series progressed.  You'll see a good number of them.

Hi Phillip!  :D

Maybe you would know the answer to this. I was watching TCM one day and they were playing some very old cartoons. One cartoon was of a bunch of wind up toys coming to life. I don't remember which cartoon character starred in this, it might have been Tom and Jerry, but I can't remember for certain. But these wind up toys started chasing him. One of them was a wind up Frankenstein. This cartoon must have been from the World War II era, because there was 1940's music playing in the background. Do you know the name of this cartoon? If I could find it for sale on DVD, I would buy it. I've only seen it once and I loved it. I thought maybe you could provide me with some info about it.

I love these cartoons. I will watch the rest of them, but I'm on dial-up and they take awhile to load. Thanks Phillip!  :D

Hmmm... I don't know.  Some Merrie Melodies had none of the regular cast of characters, but the stuff from MGM could have covered this.  I'd play around with search terms in Google and see if something comes up.

I think they sang "Old King Cole" in the cartoon. Again, I'm not sure. It's been such a long time since I've seen it. I'll see what I can find on the Internet about it Phillip. Thanks for your help!  :)

I think the name of that cartoon is "Sniffles and the Bookworm" (1939).

Since we were discussing this the other day, this is the first use of "Powerhouse" by Raymond Scott in a Warner Brothers cartoon. "Porky Pig's Feat" from 1943.

Here's another fun cartoon that features "Powerhouse." "Baby Bottleneck" (not sure of the year)

Okay, Phillip, here's a name that cartoon for you...and post the video, if you have it. I know it is Warner Brothers. The whole thing revolves around building a building. The foreman comes out and acts as a conductor. The music (and I don't know the name of the music, that is one of the things that bugs me) starts off slow and the building proceeds slowly. Then the tempo of the music gets faster and faster and the building becomes more frantic. The building is successfully built at the end, although something happens and it crashes down (I think). No dialog, just music. Any ideas?

I have a request: a vey dark scary cartoon of a little mouse in a barn at night with a huge OWL peering down at him.  I think it was Looney Tunes, with none of the usual characters.  It had a very well-known piece of classical music I could hum for you, but can't remember the name of.

Unfortunately, finding cartoons online is a very hit or miss affair, and without the titles, it's nearly impossible to even check for them.
