I love that LaShawn is a lively little gal.

Glad you started this, because I DO love LaShawn! Well, I like her anyway. I especially like the way she says, "Well, sisters or not, Lureen, looks like you and I are going to have to dance with ourselves, cause our husbands ain't got a smidgen of rhythm between 'em!" (Or whatever -- I'm going from memory.) She says it in such a cute Southern-belle way, it makes no sense (how would she know this about Jack?) and yet it's freighted with subtle meaning.

So true, Katherine.
I love LaShawn because she gets to dance with Jack.
-
I love LaShawn because she makes me smile at a point where the story just grows darker and darker and sadder and sadder. :)
-
I like LaShawn because she can talk a blue streak, I'm surprised Jack didn't tell her to quit her yammering while he was dancing with her....She sure is a lively little gal.

I like the way she pronounces "bailing wire" and how her voice gets breathy when she says when it comes to shopping "I got no resistance!"
Hmm, what if Jack and Ennis had had "no resistance"?
-
I love the way LaShawn says, "We come here thinkin' it's all still big hats and Marlboros - boy, are we behind the times!"
-
"We just may have to dance with ourselves Lureen - our husbands ain't the least bit interested in dancin' - ain't got a smidgen of rhythm between 'em..."
;D
-
... and "But Randall never listens to me. He wouldn't listen to me if he knew he was goin' deaf tomorrow!"
-
"We just may have to dance with ourselves Lureen - our husbands ain't the least bit interested in dancin' - ain't got a smidgen of rhythm between 'em..."
;D
I love this line, too, Eric, though my favorite part is that sentence that just preceeds it: "Well, even if we aren't sorority sisters ..." It makes me love LaShawn because I gather (not being a sorority sister myself, but from context) that Lureen has just put LaShawn down. But LaShawn rebounds nicely.

Rebounds? Or it goes right over her head? Either way, I love LaShawn because the obvious put-down doesn't faze her in the least. :)

We have a phrase here in Australia that I think really describes LaShawn....
"She could talk underwater, with a mouth full of marbles"

Note to self: Look here for inspiration about Lashawn-like characters! Thanks, friends.

Thanks for bumping this thread, Lee.
Haven't seen it before.
I have met a number of LaShawn-like people over the years, some of them were relatives of mine.

Last night Anna Faris and Alison Janney, costars of the sitcom Mom, "hosted" the four half-hour sitcoms on CBS. It seems Faris pronounces her name "Ah-na." I never knew that.
