Years ago, a study said that we gay men are 10 per cent, in society!
Are we now MORE than 10 percent?
Hugs!
Hi Artiste!! :D
I don't think anyone will ever know for certain unless they invent a machine that can read minds. :)
They already invented the machine, its my spouse. He is great fer telling me off for what I might be thinkiing ;D :o

Thanks David, and thanks tampatalon!!
The data varied, I guess, like you say.
The one study, many years ago, did it not say that 10 per cent were gay men?
Not another such study was done since??
Hugs!!
This is a good point, David. But I kind of fear that if they track down a "gay gene" it could lead to genetic engineering. There has already been a film made about how someone might react if they found out that their unborn baby might be gay. Twilight of the Golds was about a gay man who had a sister that became pregnant. She learned that because her brother was gay, it was likely that her child would grow up to be gay, and so the question became would she abort the child. I can see something like that happening. And that scares the hell out of me.
But most likely if they do find a scientific cause, it would be so complex that human beings couldn't really interfere with the process. Or at least we can hope that's how it would turn out.

By co-winkie-dink while I was reading this thread FoxNews had the O'reilly Factor on.
The discussion was regarding the two high school girls in a yearbook as "The
Cutest Couple". The discussion said gays and lesbians are 6% of the population;
however the discussion made the hair stand up on the back of my neck. OReilly
was debating that this was inapproprate behavior to put this in a year book.
He further stated that a strait couple in a year book is fine. I can only imagine how
the debare would go if the couple was dudes! Do they have this sh*t in Canada too?
I am begining to think, if ya can't fix it then force it!

Bill O'Reilly probably wears his underwear on the outside of his pants. The man is a complete and total idiot.
I believe gays and lesbians are the only minority that it is acceptable to put down and discriminate against. Its unacceptable in this day and age.

When you say "gay men" are you weighing that against the total population including women.I strongly suspect that figure is way too high. Maybe including occasional bisexuals both male and female it adds up to 10%. Men and women who are exclusively homosexual is probably closer to 3 to 4% of the total population. but, I'm not convinced that there will be reliable studies until there are easy tests for the "gay gene" that was discovered about 10 years ago.
Keep in mind that more than 50% of the population is to some extent bisexual!
It's no more right to discriminate against 6% of the population than it is to discrimiante against 12%.
Thanks brokeplex!I'll do my best, you can also go to "Kinsey report" on google.
Like you, I am confused as I had similar experiences with ladies, in the past, so I guess I was bi- then;
and, all gay now??
I am glad that you name the Kinsey report. But that mentioned 6 percent for gay men exclusively then, I think it was? Can you find out?
In a next such survey, much will come out of it, surely, and that will be helpful in many wondrous ways for us gay men, lesbians, bi- as well as for straights surely?
Hugs!
Artiste, If there is a new study. I certainly would be interested. A good study that hasCorporations and other businesses realized this some time ago. Gay men have been actively and openly courted as consumers for probably at least ten years now (in the United States).
good statistics would help forward gay rights. If 10% of the population could be
proven conclusively gay and lesbian, this should be a wake up call for the
politicians. A 10% voting block would certainly be worth courting nationwide.
"We gay men are MORE than 10 per cent?"
The number of men who admit to being gay is significantly lower than ten percent. The number of men who have, or have had, sexual relations with other males is much higher than ten percent. The percentage of human beings who are latently bisexual is probably well over fifty percent.
I think the gay community in the USA is about 5% of the population. The percentage of ppl homosexual is a much harder thing to gather data on. Married gay mormons, things like that. They will never fess up.
I'm kinda late with the discussion. Hope what I've posted is new.
Off Topic....That reigndeer is so cute! Is he real?

No, you are fine Karl. Thanks for posting! :D5 percent is alot of ppl. The Jewisih population of the USA is around 5%. They have a large impact despite the fact that they are not the majority religion. A country like ours should not be judged with just how they treat their majorities, but how they treat their minorities.
But even if we are only 5 percent of the US population, this means there is 15 million of us! 5 percent may not sound like very much, but 15 million people constitutes the entire population of many countries! That's an awful lot of people to be discriminating against. I wish our US government would start thinking about people, rather than percentages. The Republicans are especially good at doing these sorts of things. ::) >:(

I wish he would move in my avatar, but he doesn't. Isn't that cool looking? :D

In reference to the above 5% figure quoted above concerning adherents to Jewish congregations, I'd like to offer that US Census figures show their percentage of the total population to be closer to 2%. Any group who evidence high educational attainments and higher than average income levels will have an impact on society. Self-identified US Jewish citizens are among several minorities in that category.
A large number of US gay men and women also fall into this group. :)
I think gay people want to be accepted. It's as simple as that. We would like to be treated like any other member of society. But sometimes I think it's our fault because of our refusal to openly admit who we are. Or maybe it's society's fault because of the hostility we are met with once we do come out and admit it. It's complicated. And we will never know for certain what percentage of society we are, until we feel comfortable and accepted within the American social landscape.
More than 10 per cent of us gays can be happy with our lives?
Why not aim for 100 per cent?
I say this because we can reach out more towards other gay men and gay women, so that when we group, or seek and find another person with mutual interests, at least we become happy?
Hugs!
May I ask more names...Sure...here are a few more (in no particular order):
More please, and merci encore,Some names that came to mind over the weekend:
I think that we must be at least 10 per cent !!
Anyone else thinks so too?
