Remember "Dippity-Doo"?
My Mom used Dippity Doo on her hair sometimes. I always thought it smelled good.
I also remember a big ball with a handle on it. I'd sit on it and bounce around the basement! I forget what those things were called. Mine was blue I think.
David, do you mean one of these:(http://i198.photobucket.com/albums/aa188/ffrraann/ABC%20Food%20used/704648.jpg)
I think they were called Hoppity Hops.
Striped socks
Are you a child of the 60's and 70's? What are some of your memories?
A few more of mine... Silk screen shirts and bell bottom jeans, cinnamon flavored tooth picks, Dungeons and Dragons, florescent posters, dropping acid when it's 98 degrees outside, Pink Floyd and "The Dark Side of the Moon", wearing long hair, rock and roll blaring on the radio, Pintos, Pacers and El CAAAMIIIIIINOs, dip and dry artificial flowers, glow in the dark paint, UFOs, rock "computers", the Green Ghost game, macrame, poppers in a bottle, punch cards for a school lunch, Gene Simmons and KISS, the sound of a vinyl LP playing on a stereo, the protests over the Vietnam War, Sandalwood Incense, Flower Power, Beer bashes deep in the woods. The Age of Aquarius and Elvis...
What are some of your memories?
Burning your draft card and burning your bra. :laugh:
I guess I am too young to remember the 60s. :-\
I was only ten in 1976. But I do remember all the hoopla over the bicentennial.
Things from the seventies I remember......
Disco music.
8-tracks.
CB radios.
Mom being shocked when Elvis died.
Watching the six million dollar man on TV.
Having to walk over and turn the channel knob to change the TV channel! OMG!
[snip]
Remember the clackers?
I had several pairs of clackers. One of them even glowed in the dark! Sometimes they would get away from me and crack me upside my head. >:(
It hurt too.

I sure do remember all those things Dottie!! I especially remember the Silly Putty because I was always putting it in my mouth. I don't know why I did it. It didn't taste very good. I'd stick it in my mouth and chew it like gum.
I was always eating things I shouldn't... Silly Putty, Play Doh, school paste, finger paint, my mom's lipstick...
.... the list goes on and on.

life was hard back in the Dark Ages wasn't it?
I remember many of those things too Jess. Well, not desegregation because that occurred around 1949 or 1950 in Indiana. But I do remember bussing, which was the second step of the desegregation process. That happened in the 1970's.
I also remember all the Army trucks. We lived about a mile from Fort Benjamin Harrison and there were many Army trucks around here. They closed Fort Ben in the 1990's and now only the finance center remains. It is still military, but many of the Army Officer's homes have been converted into apartments or condominiums. I remember hearing Reveille and Taps each day from Fort Ben when I was a kid. You could easily hear the bugle from our house.
I mentioned Sea Monkeys and mood rings in the title of this thread. Anyone remember those? I had a mood ring, but it stayed blue most of the time. I forget what that color meant.
If the signal wasn't coming in very well, my parents would make me walk over and adjust the antenna for them. And if the signal suddenly improved while I was holding it, they would make me stand there with the antenna in my hand until the show ended.
you burnt your bra??! :o :o :o
or your 'bro'??
mansiere??
Technically, since I'm gay, I suppose I could have burnt both my bra and my draft card, but I'm not into bras. (I did learn how to unhook em with one hand though.) :laugh: :laugh: :laugh:

Damn. A lot of straight guys can't do that! :o

I learned how to hook and unhook bras back when I dressed mannequins at L.S. Ayres. After about two years of doing that, they moved me to the Men's store where I sold things like Ralph Lauren shirts and Calvin Klein jeans.
That was 25 years ago and I've never touched a bra since. A wasted talent for a gay guy if you ask me.

Yup pretty much nowadays.
Did anybody mention shag carpet?
How about women out shopping with beer can rollers in their hair covered by a scarf?
Polyester!! All those polyester clothes!

My mom had curlers like that! :laugh: She also had a curler heater.
Nope, nobody mentioned shag carpeting yet Clyde. At least I don't think anyone did. Everybody had shag carpeting back in the seventies... and paneling on their walls. Ugh!
Uh I did and I think Janice might have too but it was so atrocious it deserves to be mentioned again.... just like that sculpted high low pile that was popular back then too.
I had a mood ring, and it was my most prized treasure!! Let's see if I can remember the 'moods' offhand:
Blue=cool, very relaxed
Green=nervous+tense
Yellow=?/don't remember
Orange/Red=angry
Purple=sexy
^That was my rusty memory, anyway. From HowStuffWorks.com:
* Dark blue: Happy, romantic or passionate
* Blue: Calm or relaxed
* Blue-green: Somewhat relaxed
* Green: Normal or average
* Amber: A little nervous or anxious
* Gray: Very nervous or anxious
* Black: Stressed, tense or feeling harried

I also had a Big Jim doll and he had his own camper!
As far as toys go, Big Jim was a total fox and his 'buddy' Big Josh was even cuter!
Oh my God, I don't think I've ever heard of Big Josh. It's a good thing I didn't hear of him. I would have nagged my parents senseless for him! Have mercy, just look at those abs!!
Hmmmm. Big Jim and Big Josh alone in that camper... Hmmmmthen GI Joe stops by with some beer.....
and you get a menage a trois :-X

Here's the fuzzy one that talks; there was a cord in his chest that you pulled. I forget what he said. Probably: "Now where are Big Jim and Big Josh, anyway? Always in that camper..."

Among the various things G.I. Joe talked about, he said: "I've got a tough assignment for you!"
I wish I still had my Big Jim camper. I have no idea what happened to it. Mom probably sold it in a garage sale.
I had the Big Jim camper too Paul! And my sister also had the Barbie camper. We used to play together and this was about the only time we actually got along with each other. lol
