Heya,
My Mom just emailed me the link for this website. It's a really addictive little map game. Enjoy!

thanks this was so much fun : my first try I got 589,134 points, level 12, IQ of 134...whatever that means?
I'll go back from time to time and try again. how did you do? I hope that you beat me!

Cute, Amanda!! Thanks for telling us about it.
It said I got 369,495 points and I have a Traveler IQ of 111, and I failed to make it past level 10.
Not too good, is it?
>:( >:(
-
I don't know, David, you did about as well as I did (I think I got 366,000 or something) but it's mainly because I flunked Vanuatu and Brunei. who the hell knows where Brunei is?
-
it is a tiny place near Malaysia and Borneo. they have lots of oil and a rich sultan. I think that 300000 plus is a good score!
-
Isn't it fun! I'm glad you're enjoying it. Yeah, my parents are completely addicted to this at the moment.
Which types of games are you all trying? I've only attempted the "world", "North America", "USA" and "Europe" challenges. There are some categories that I just know I would be miserable at, so I haven't tried. I can't imagine how hard "Flags of the World" would be.

I don't know which one I did Amanda. I just clicked on something and it started quizzing me.
There are different tests? I remember getting asked about capitals and world cities I think. It was hard to click on places like Israel, when I couldn't even see Israel on the map. I simply clicked on the general location of Israel and prayed for daylight!
It became much more difficult around level 7 or 8.

Heya,
Yep, if you look just above where the map appears on the screen you'll see a menu list of categories. You can choose the type of geography quiz that you'd like to try. For instance, you can choose to do one that focuses only on the continent of Europe. Or you can pick a quiz that's only about the U.S. etc.
When you first go to the site I think it starts with the "World" quiz by default.
And, yes, the questions get more difficult as it goes from level to level. The highest levels can only be accessed if you accumulate enough points in earlier levels.
I don't think I've gotten past level 8 in any of the tests yet. My Mom claims to have gotten to level 11 in the "World" quiz.
 You're right about the clicking aspect being really hard... especially for tiny countries. :)
-
OK, as an example. I just did the quiz titled "USA Challenge" and I got to level 7 of 8. My score this time was 14,161. In the little result window that comes up at the end it said: "Sorry you need 15,000 points to continue to the next level."
I think there are different maximum levels for each different quiz.

Okay Mr "Know it all"!! ;)
Go back and take a different one and then report back to us.
(Surely there's something in there he'll flunk!) ;) ;)

Jack Daniels is speaking to me Amanda. Not a lot, but I think he's whispering in my ear. I don't think I can do it just now. I'll try again tomorrow!
Thanks for posting this for us!!! It's fun! :)

Sure enough friend. It's 2 am here and I'm not at my sharpest at the moment either.

I challenge anyone to take the Flags of the World quiz. I'm scared of that one in particular.

Amanda, I doubt I could find Indianapolis on a map of Indianapolis right now. And a quiz about flags... huh uh. But I will give it a try tomorrow! :D
-
Okay Amanda! I did the flags!
I failed miserably.
I made it to level 4, and I scored 119,599 points with a travel IQ of 95. :(
-
I am not even gonna try it...ya'll would just LAUGH at me...
*Jess sinks down in her seat, all pitiful looking*

Good sport David!
I'll go try the Flag game and report my results. I've never yet even tried that game.

OK, so I just did three tests in a row... And, tonight, here are my results:
USA Challenge: got to level 8 with a score of 15,813 (18,000 points needed to pass level 8)
World: got to level 8 of 12 with a score of 25,766 :-\
And now... for the miserable Flags test: got to level 2 with a score of 9953. :P So, it's even harder than I expected because not only do you need to identify the flag, but you also need to figure out factoids about the country (like capitol city, etc.).

YES!! That made it much harder. Why must we figure out capitals and other things when we're taking a quiz about flags? I don't get it.
-
My final score for the US quiz was...
83,749 points, Level 6, and an IQ of 113. I was 700 points shy of going on to level 7. >:(
-
I only made it through level 4 of Europe.
51,562 points, Level 4, IQ of 86.
-
Devil!! >:(
On the Oceania/Australia quiz I only scored 104,911 points.
Final Level: 6 and Traveler IQ: 83.
But if it's any consequence, I nailed Sydney and Perth to within less than 50 km!! :D
-
Yeah, once in a while Perth comes up as a question on the World quiz... and I'm getting really good at getting that one accurately at this point.
I haven't dared try the Oceania/Australia quiz yet... I just know I would do terribly.

 That's funny!
I've just done the main default quiz with these results:
Score 180,697
Final Level 6
Traveler IQ 92
I'm little better than moronic when it comes to geography, so I was surprised to have done so well! ;)
That was fun! I'll be going back for more! I'm a glutton for punishment! :D

Yes that is a pretty good score Kerry! Please go back and do another one, so you can do as badly as the rest of us... or me anyway!! ;)
-
Sigh..my IQ is 99 and I only made it to level 8. It was hard, but I think I know Europe and the Middle East better than it seems - it was hard to click precisely on that little map. ;) ::) One cool thing is that I got some random places almost spot on like Azerbaijan and Djibouti...others like China and much of Africa, I was clueless...missed Rwanda even.

Good job Lynne!!! :D
Yes, I know what you mean about the clicking part. It's hard, and we really don't have much time to think AND point the mouse on the exact location. It's fun though, isn't it?
-
Yes, it was great fun! Thanks Amanda for posting it. I didn't mean to sound all complainy... 8)

ok, took your challenge and went down hill,
first time I did the "world" got 589,134
then tried "world capitals" got 487,974
then totally crapped out with "flags" 201,474
weepy woo!

Yeah, some of those quizzes are pretty hard! I think you did better than me though. :)

Map is too small. I had to squint my eyes. I mean Liechtenstein. I know the country is located between Austria and Switzerland, but to try it bulleyes requires 20/20 and more so vision. Oh a few occasions, I hadn't even planted the flag yet, but it showed up. It said I chose Brasilia as midway in the Atlantic. I know it's north of Sao Paulo in the interior, not on some island between Brazil and Angola. I did screw up with the islands and some of the countries in Africa. The Western Antilles doesn't really show up on the map, so I had to approximate where Barbados was at. Also, I think they shaded Korea one color. WRONG. I'm also kinda confused about the names of some of the countries in the Southern part of the former Soviet Union.
My scores were 431,622 final score
Final level 10
IQ 117.
I love geography. Thanks for the quiz. ;)
-
Oh, I know why this game seemed familiar. It felt like the test James Bond and Klaus Maria Brandauer played for world domination in the movie NEVER SAY NEVER AGAIN. No electric shock with this game though.
-
ummmmmmmmmmmm i totally suck at this game.
my husband is rockin' it, but i'm horrible. it's very embarrassing. :-\
-
;D Keep trying Forsythia! Some of the categories can be really frustrating. But, I still find this game so addictive... and the thing is... it's really teaching me a lot about geography. I'm on to categories like Latin America, Asia and Australia... areas where I was really pretty bad before. But, slowly but surely I'm definitely improving. The quiz gives the same locations frequently enough that if you do one of the same quizzes several times, you really begin to have stuff memorized.
The U.S.A. challenge is the funniest now... I can't believe how many goofy city nicknames I've memorized. And, now I can click on Juneau, Alaska in less than 2 seconds! Who would have ever thought?
;D
The North American quiz is interesting because there's one whole section of that quiz all about Caribbean Island... and I'm just so terrible at that part it's pretty funny. But, again, by this point I'm improving some.
-
I'm shamelessly bumping this because I'm still very addicted to this game, and I've been sad to see the thread sink a bit down the page list.
As a refresher, here's the link to the game:

I thought I was doing so well, but it wouldn't let me go past level 6 on either the North America or the US one. And I knew I was stinkin' at Flags - didn't get past Level 1. (Turns out I didn't know they changed the Russian flag!!) ::)
I will try Europe tomorrow.

The North America game is hard because of that one full round that's just about the Caribbean Islands. I've never been to the Caribbean and my knowledge of the geography of those islands (especially the small ones) is very shaky.
But, the thing I love about these games is that I really feel like I've actually learned a lot. I can now get past the Caribbean round pretty frequently.
For the U.S. test I can usually get to the final level 8 pretty regularly these days... but it's very hard to pass level 8 because they often give really rather obscure little towns (etc.) for that round.
The Flags test really is hard!
-
Not playing, not playing, throwing rattle out the pram. I am unbelievably cr-p at this, even the Europe one. It's so bad I'm shouting insults back at the computer.
Going to get my little girl onto it for her states and capitals test. Now I know why I took history not geography,I suck at the trivial pursuits geography as well.
-
I was real tickled I knew where Head Bashed In Buffalo Jump was located (southern Alberta), I missed it by 17 km.
-
I was pretty horrible at most of the games too when my Mom first emailed it to me. But, gradually I'm improving. So, don't give up Fiona! The quizzes repeat certain locations (just enough) that if you do some of the games repeatedly they work pretty effectively as fun learning tools.

:) :)
I know what you mean Tru! There are plenty of BBM and Brokie related locations that come up. In the U.S. challenge they often ask for the location of Devil's Tower and a few other Wyoming places. And, sometimes Perth comes up as a question in the World game.

Why is Memphis called "Bluff City" as a nickname?

I didn't know it was, but it is on a bluff overlooking the Mississippi River.

Thanks Elle. There's a bonus round in the U.S.A. challenge that's all about city nicknames and "Bluff City" is a clue that I've learned (through practice) refers to Memphis.
:)
