Are you a fan of fast food? If so, you'll probably want to read this.
With all these new fast food entrees recently, it's nice to know some facts ahead of time. If you click on the link below, you'll find reviews for fourteen new (or relatively new) fast food items, everything from McDonalds to KFC to Quiznos.
One new sandwich was described as "slimey, floppy and salty; so salty in fact, it should be thrown out to deers for use as a salt lick.
Several new entrees received a D, and two received an F.

I can't say I'm a fan of fast food, but I just had to see what was described as "slimey, floppy, and salty." A lot of the pictures looked kind of gross, but that Burger King omelet thing looked positively disgusting. The reviews were pretty funny to read, though!
Thanks, David !

That is an interesting website. I read some of the other sections.
I haven't tried any of those foods, but the McDonald's Southern chicken biscuit got an "A" -- I might try that one! ;) It looks and sounds pretty good.
-
I don't eat fast food often, but I get cravings once in a while.
I tried Taco Bell until I figured out everything they serve tastes the same, it just comes in different shapes.
I used to enjoy Wendy's Chili baked potato until someone said OMIGOD somebody threw up on your lunch!
But I still have a weakness for slyders, and they have the best chocolate shakes, so I have to stop by Château Blanc at least a couple of times a year. ;D
-
Ah! Chateau Blanc! ;)
It's funny how we are strangely drawn to those things a few times each year, isn't it? Those square hamburgers with the chopped up onion and the pickle slice on top? LOL
I think they must secretly plant something in their hamburgers. Some secret drug that keeps us coming back. ;)
And White Castle is a Midwestern company too.... St. Louis I believe.
White Castle was my first fast food (Back when it was the only fast food!) I know there's gotta be something in those chocolate shakes. It's like sticking a straw into a can of Hershey's syrup. ;D
-
Yes. White Castle is FAMOUS in the Midwest. They always have been.
God, I love those chocolate shakes too! I haven't had one in years. Just the hamburgers. The next time I feel a crave coming on, I'll order one! :D
No, I mean it was literally the ONLY fast food! Come sit on my knee sonny and I'll tell you what the world was like before McDonalds and Colonel Sanders and Big Boy.
-

I'll sit on your knee, as long as you promise to BEHAVE!! >:( >:(
;) ;) ;D ;D :D :D
I ain't makin no promises I can't keep!
Course we could just talk about the first thing that pops up. (Nyuk Nyuk Nyuk)
It's late, I'm on call this week, got to be up by 6:00. Talk more silliness to y'all tomorrow.
-
I think our version of White Castle is called Krystal -- they have little square hamburgers with chopped up onions and pickles. Yummy.
I like Sonic's caramel iced lattes and java chillers.
-

more like you will sit on his knee if he promises NOT to behave... ;D ;D

Anyone remember Burger Chef? You'd probably have to be from Indiana to remember it.
They'd put some sort of appalling cold slaw/tartar sauce mixture on their hamburgers, and GOD it was good!! :D
*waves hand* I remember Burger Chef, David! Maybe it was a midwest chain? I don't remember that tartar sauce mixture, but, ya know, that sounds good!

Ahh...yes - no discussion of fast food is complete without White Castle! There used to be another chain called "Top Hat" that basically served the same food, but they may have been local. I don't even remember the last time I had a slider, but this thread is making me hungry!

YAY!! Somebody remembers it!! :D
I started thinking about it, and I think they may have only put the mixture on the Big Shefs, which were very similar to a Big Mac. They shredded the lettuce and then put some sort of mayonnaise on top of it. It kind of reminded me of tarter sauce, but I think it was probably something else.

I remember too!
I think we had those when I lived in Maryland.
I was just looking at the website for In and Out Burger in California!
I love that place. Wishe we had those out here! :(
-
I remember Burger Chef. There were at least 3 here once upon a time. I ate at In and Out Burger in San Francisco. It was very good. One of the best fast food restaurants around here is Hardee's.
-
Just went to look at the article. GOD I hate AOL. WTF do you do about that effing floating Flash ad? Sits right on top of the article and there's no close button?
Anyhoo, I shrank the text enough to read it. They have some good writers! Very clever.
-
never heard of Burger Chef. I used to eat Burger King all the time.

I agree with you Jack! Hardee's IS very good. My favorite fast food restaurants nowdays is Arby's and Wendy's, although I really don't stop at them too often anymore, maybe once or twice a month. :)

We had lots of Burger Chef's around here Chuck, but they were headquartered in Indianapolis, so that's probably why there were so many of them. I always thought they were just an Indiana chain, but after reading some of the posts here from people in other states, I guess I was wrong! :)
Anyway, Burger Chef was very similar to McDonald's. Just about every sandwich McDonald's offered, Burger Chef duplicated, and often times the names were very similar too. Big Mac (McDonald's) Big Shef (Burger Chef). If I remember correctly, they spelled Chef with an "S" for some reason. ::)
And then they had the "Super Shef" but I can't remember what that was. I just remember the name. lol

I loved Tastee Freeze!
Don't see them much anymore!

I'm going to Google "Burger Chef" when I get home and see what I can find, I'm curious now.
McDonalds could never get my order right. I hate mustard, and I hate onions. (I'm probably the only Italian who hates onions ) so I would always ask for that to be held from my burgers. I always ended up having to scrape them off the burger, and I could still taste it anyway.
(aaaahhhhh the legacy of the picky eater  )
Burger King always got it right. ;D ;D

The equivalent of Hardees in Los Angeles and apparently in many of the western states is Carl's Jr. I was wondering what was going on when I started seeing commercials with the same advertisements as Hardee's. It must be kind of like in the West the restaurant in the East known as Shoneys is called Big Boy. They also had a great diner in LA called Johnny Rockets. They had the jukebox things on the tables and everything. Mel's Drive-In also exists in LA and in fact the one where the old movie American Graffiti was filmed is there.

Allow me to complicate things even FURTHER Jack! ;)
In the Midwest (Indiana and Ohio) Big Boy is called "Frischs (pronounced "Frishes" like the word "fishes" but with an added R in it) and up north in Michigan Big Boy is called Elias Bros. :)
I am familiar with Shoney's. I've seen them many times during my travels down through the South. We have a Shoney's here in Indiana too, but it is more like Waffle House or Bob Evans, and it is entirely separate from the Big Boy restaurants.
I TOLD ya I was gonna make it MORE complicated! ;) ;D

I'm trying to think of what we have/had in in the NJ-East Coast area.
well, of course McDonald's, Burger King, and Wendy's. Arby's is still here in certain places.
Used to have a place called "Gino's".....here's a link to them.
http://members.aol.com/_ht_a/jsf0864/page1.html
We used to have an "Arthur Treachers Fish-N-Chips" by us, but that's long gone....
http://www.arthurtreachers.com/at-menu.htm
There's 2 or 3 "Falls View Grill" by me....I go there when I'm in the mood for fries with cheese sauce.
http://fallsviewgrill.com/menu.htm
There's a place by me called "Rutt's Hut"......pretty famous (for the area) greasy spoon.....here's a link to a review.

Boy, I haven't heard that name in a LONG time. I'd forgotten all about it. We used to have Arthur Treacher's here too. They pulled out of the Indy area years ago. Now we have Long John Silvers Fish and Chips.

My parents and brothers enjoyed it there, and it was within walking distance of our house. I am not a big seafood fan, so I would always get their chicken sandwich.

We have Long John Silvers here too. Many of them are connected to A & W. We also have Dairy Queen. When my sister lived in Houston they had a place down there called Whataburger that was very popular. Oh yeah we also have a lot of Sonics around here.

I posted these pics on the Olympic site, and thought it would fit here too.....so we can see what really is CHINESE TAKE AWAY.....

Eww Yuck! :P
I'm not trying to diss other cultures, but some of that looks really gross! Dog Brain Soup? Sea horses? They eat fish head soup there too I think. How can people eat things like that? Of course, they probably think some of our foods are very nasty as well. So if you grew up with it, then it would be normal to you. If not, it looks very strange and gross! lol
-
That's disgusting :o Last night they were eating crickets and pig ears on Big Brother. That was disgusting too, but these things actually look worse.
-

One Long John Silvers, Dairy Queens (they are losing a lot of customers because of falling quality...getting a bad reputation, their ice 'creme' is all that is keeping them afloat), lots of Sonics, and Whataburgers (which are having the same problems Dairy Queen have but they dont' have the ice creme to fall back on), Taco Bell/KFCs, and Taco Bueno (a cheaper version of Taco Bell...if you can believe there is a cheaper version of the food Taco Bell serves), one Grandy hanging on by its nails, a Wendy's and several Jack in the Boxes..and of course McDonalds and Burger King, neither of which we frequent.

Jess.....McDonalds and Burger King are so last year.....

That is a shame to hear about Dairy Queen there. I have always liked their food. However, I really don't know about the ones here either since I do not eat at fast food or restaurants much anymore. That is a good way to gain weight, not loose weight ;) I know my friend in Texas said that Whataburger was not doing as good as they used to because of Sonic. I know they were very popular when my sister lived there. What are your Taco Bells and KFCs together there? I saw a DelTaco somewhere recently and I thought they went out of business a long time ago. We also have here Backyard Burgers, Boston Market, Bojangles, and Fuddruckers. I'm sure there are even more that I have forgotten about.
By the way, speaking of fast food and gaining weight, it seems to me that the fast food places always get blamed for people being overweight. I have always kind of disagreed with that since I think eating at any restaurant all the time will result in gaining weight. In fact, the places like Applebee's, Chili's, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc., etc. serve huge portions of very fattening stuff, but yet nobody ever blames them for people gaining weight.

This place has world famous hotdogs!!
