Title: Fantasy Cowgirls

Although cowgirls share much with the cowboy, their history is somewhat different. There is no record of any girls or women driving cattle up the cattle trails of the Old West. Although many undoubtedly helped on the ranches, and in many cases ran them, few routinely dressed in the clothing suitable for working cattle from horseback.

Seeing all these Cowgirls reminds me of our BBM Brunch in NYC.

The restaraunt was called "Cowgirl" and the walls were covered in Vintage Cowgirl photos!     It was a cool place.

It's Rain Phoenix. Sister of River and Joaquin Phoenix.
"Even Cowgirls get the Blues" is directed by Gus Van Sant, who also worked with River in "My Own Private Idahao" and with Joaquin in "To Die For".

And, yes, it's Rain Phoenix... sorry for not responding here earlier.  Isn't it true that Gus Van Sant had his "hat in the ring" for a long time hoping to direct Brokeback Mountain?  I'm really glad he didn't (although I do like some of his movies).

I'd love to see a Van Sant version of BBM. Love the few films of his that I've seen - my favourite is 'Elephant' which has to be one of the most atmospheric and unsettling movies I've ever seen.

That's what I read repeated times, too. IMDB names GVS and Joel Schumacher as directors who had been interested.
Though I liked MOPI very much, liked Good Will Hunting and think Drugstore Cowboy wasn't bad, I'm happy that Ang Lee did it and not GVS.
A good deal of the magic of BBM comes from it's ambiguity and the subtlies, and I don't think GVS would have made a subtle movie. I think he would have made a far more blunt movie.

But maybe I'm not fair, because I love the movie so much as it is right now. I can't imagine it with another director, or with other leads, or with another score, and so on.
It was a blessing that all the talents from Annie Proulx, Ossana&McMurtry, Jake, Heath, Michelle and so on (cinematograpy, score) melted together into such a beautiful piece of art.

She's Dominique Sanda, an Italian actress who starred in, among many other films, the Garden of the Fitzi-Continis and my all-time favorite movie The Conformiste.

Well I've tried to do some searches for "cowgirl pics" but all that kept poppin up was "porngirl pics"!   Ohh brother!   But i did find this pic that I remembered.  It was for a local Alberta beef promotion poster not too long ago.  It's really nice and puts the ladies in a very positive scene.  This is about the best pic I could find.
