Title: An Update on BBM Radio Progress
Post by: Phillip Dampier on March 30, 2006, 12:37:06 am
With the ongoing power issues we've experienced as of late last week and into this week, I am behind in updating BBM Radio.  I've had great suggestions and I will be using some of them in the next update.  I'm just trying to catch up as 5-6 hours of my online day are being interrupted due to electrical upgrades in the neighborhood.

I'll announce the next playlist change as soon as I can.

My great thanks to people making donations to BetterMost.  It has allowed me to upgrade BBM Radio to three times its former size.  I am now starting to set about freshening and expanding the playlist.  New songs are already there, but I have at least a dozen more tunes to replace to freshen it up!  I will have an updated playlist up when I am done.

What a divine day I've had today Phillip.  I had a spare couple of hours so I drew a bath, applied all the "lovelies" that I could think of, and tuned into BBM Radio hooked up to my 6 speaker sound system!  To drift into misty dozy-land and then to realise that I was listening to "tent scene #2"...  Oh boy, I was there with Jack and Ennis, actually I think I was Ennis in this scene and Jack was pulling me in <grins foolishly>  :D

OH...MY...GOD... What a heavenly delight to hear all the extra incidental music!  I know you've not finished with the new play list, but I already love the enhancements.

The best couple of shekels that I've spent!

Just want to tell you that the radio is excellent. I really like most of the music. Keep up the good work Phillip.

I second that emotion!  Hadn't tuened in for a few days, but played it today for at least an hour -- a sweet accompaniment to my monthly desk work.  And love that there is more of Gustavo's beautiful music on here than there was a few weeks back.  Thanks Phllip, for taking such good care of us on this site.  Iris

I am adding a lot more music and am rotating some stuff off as well.  You'll see a lot of changes there over the next couple of days.

I have still got more... I want to completely fill my space up (I have only used just under half so far) and then start purging the old stuff, which I am sure people are tired of hearing.

Me neither! Don't take it all away just yet! Some of us only just started hearing it. Give it a few more days before you totally rotate the old stuff out, pleeeeeeeze?

Hmm, was wondering if there was a way to do talk shows or some other medium besides music... lol. Just an idea, may have no merit at all.

Very nice radio programming.  I like the ambient music, but am wondering if there's more C&W, or just more vocal music that we could hear.

I get antsy for hearing singing after a while.  Don't know if others share that interest...thanks.

I agree, I think they should be mixed up more. I remember that you said you divided the playlist into instrumental and vocal. Think you should gently shuffle them together.

Thanks, Daniel.

Hey Phillip,
Ideas for songs - what about Desperado and Sweet Baby James by James Taylor - grouse cowboy songs,

Peter

Hey Phillip!

I know I've shared this in a private message with you earlier on, but thought I'd make a public post here too.

I like very much all the instrumentals you have programmed, some more than others of course, but in general I can say all.

I don't care so much for vocals, especially vocals in English!

My own quirk, I can't NOT hear the ideas of the words, and I find that intrustive. When I listen to music I want only the sounds so I can experience my own emotions without being force fed someone else's through their words! So I also do enjoy vocals in a language I don't understand! For then it's just sound and emotion.

So for me, your current setup is ideal.

When you are in instrumental mode, I enjoy it and listen from time to time. When you are in vocal mode, I shut it off! Which I would do always if vocals were mixed in equally with the instrumentals.

I'm sure I'm not alone with this quirk of music enjoyment. (Naturally there are some songs I do like, but in speaking generally I will always prefer insturmentals.)

Did anyone catch Jack Johnson on Austin City Limits last night?  He did several of my favorites, but not "Better Together," the only one airing on BBM radio.

This guy is just like his music: mellow and serene.

I will not be rotating stuff off until I completely fill our space and we've got more than 100 megs left.  I have been so busy working on BetterMost I haven't had time to do much with BBM Radio (again), but I'm going back to working on that soon.

I am going to keep the instrumentals and vocals apart for at least awhile longer because they provoke very different moods in people.  Who knows... if support is there with listeners, maybe I'll create a BBM Radio 1 and BBM Radio 2, with different formats - one vocal, one instrumental.
