Title: Kate, Kate, Kate!
Post by: Brown Eyes on September 05, 2008, 03:27:06 pm

It was suggested in another thread that we start a Kate, Kate, Kate thread.  So, here it is!

<img src="http://www.divshare.com/img/5314508-31e.jpg" border="0" /> (http://www.divshare.com/download/5314508-31e) <img src="http://www.divshare.com/img/5314507-0cf.jpg" border="0" /> (http://www.divshare.com/download/5314507-0cf)

<img src="http://www.divshare.com/img/midsize/5314524-356.jpg" border="0" /> (http://www.divshare.com/download/5314524-356)

Here's the interesting Pittsburgh related factoid about her (this from her imdb profile):

"She is the great-granddaughter of the founder of the New York Giants, Timothy Mara and Art Rooney, founder of the Pittsburgh Steelers. She often sings the national anthem at Giants home games."

Somehow in the back of my mind I knew that she was related to the Steelers empire.

Also, according to her profile, she's currently 25 years old (born in 1983) and was born in Bedford, NY.

It's interesting to realize that she's only 4 years younger than Heath was and to think they were playing father and daughter roles.

One thing that seems great about Kate is that she's beautiful without being painfully thin looking.

Yep!  I think she's really interesting looking.  And, I think the casting in BBM was very good, because she really does look like she could be related to Heath.

Well, I'm not sure that's the greatest look for Kate.  It would be hard for that dress to be flattering on most folks.

Also, I think having her hair up makes a huge difference since her long hair seems to be quite a trademark.

Here she is looking more like the Junior we know.  It's astounding how big a difference make-up vs. no make-up can make.

Title: GHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!
Post by: Kelda on October 03, 2008, 04:17:32 pm
I'm so annoyed!!!

I was walking along the street today and saw a poster ont he side of a bus for Kate's new movie.... I saw here face and then saw the film title.....

The film is called the Stone of Destiny - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1037156/

And that's why I'm so annoyed! This film is probably one that is unlikely to be a hit in the USA, because its a film based on a Scottish story. It does have Billy Boyd and Robert Carlyle in it though so who knows.

Since around the 9th century, tradition holds that Scottish monarchs took their place upon the Stone of Scone during their coronation ceremony, until 1296 when it was captured by Edward I and placed in Westminster Abbey under a seat upon which English sovereigns were crowned, thereby showing the English power over the Scots. "Stone of Destiny" tells the true story of Ian Hamilton, a young student and nationalist, who was to attempt to return the Stone to its rightful place in Scotland and thereby right a long-standing injustice by the English.

Anyway, some of you may know that I do extra work in my spare time, I've been in a few adverts & in the Scottish Soap River City for example. Anyway about 10 months ago I was signed up to be an extra in The Stone of Destiny.... but they cancelled me at the last minute as they realised I had some highlights in my hair and they didnt want anyone with highlights as the film is set in the 50's...

I COULD'VE MET KATE! (ANd Robert and Billy but I'm more annoyed about Kate!!)

BAH!!!!!

Thanks for posting this Kelda!  The story behind the movie sounds really fascinating. I'll definitely check it out when it becomes available over here.

And, I'm sorry to hear about your missed opportunity to meet Kate.

Why couldn't you have put a temporary dark rinse over your highlights? It looks to me like Kate's hair has highlights too!! Better luck next time! Maybe Jake will do a remake of Braveheart...now that would be fun!

So wierd! Just reading your post & on comes an advert for the film on the TV..... It opens here on 10 October.. and Kate in the advert doesn;t have to bad an accent.. but she only sayd "What could possibly go wrong?" so she can't go too wrong with the accent in 5 words!!

Apparently it closed the Toronto Film Festival.

Trying to find a clip of it online but no luck so far.. perhaps I should start a new thread on this?

Here's the wiki page http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_of_Destiny_(film)

Wow, look at all the missing photos on this thread!  Sad!  Something mysterious happened a while back so that most of my old divshare codes no longer work correctly on BetterMost... so many of the pics I posted have vanished.  And, it looks like a lot of red Xs in other folks' posts too.

I'm going to be away most of the weekend, but I'm definitely going to make it a project to come back and fix the images from my old posts on this thread.

This thread definitely needs to be revitalized... especially with all the attention now focused on Rooney Mara.

Rooney Mara?

Ah did a google.. I didn't know her sister was an also an actress who seems to have suddenly got a huge part in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo series.

I just finished watching the 2010 version of "Nightmare on Elm Street".  I am a huge movie buff, especially scary ones, and this one actually did justice as a remake (NOT a sequel) to the original that I first saw in college in 1984.

Rooney had the lead actress role.  She was very believable and authentic in her terror.  Some of these remakes can be quite hokey and stupid and ridiculous.  But on this one, I literally screamed out loud around 10 times.  You see things through the eyes of Rooney's character, and DAY-UM, that girl brought it home.

Was like watching Kate, except the brunette version, and one that was infinitely wiser about the world.  But not sinister in the slightest bit.

Undeniably Kate's sis -- what a talented twosome.  Can't wait to the Dragon Tattoo.

We went to see the James Franco movie, 127 hours.  By the way it was superb, beyond all my expectations.  I love him, not only for his obvious attributes of, looks
and having a smile that is the only one that I think can rival Jake's.   But I think he
is truly our most brilliant and talented man in the country.  Not just this country, but
probably the whole world.  I get the idea, that the only reason he is in movies, is
so he has the money to go to school.  He just graduated Harvard, with his third
Doctorate.  He is A graduate of not only Harvard but Columbia, and a couple of other prestigious schools, which escape me just now.
But after all that it brings me to the Brokeback connection, which I thought would be an interesting tidbit for those of you who follow Kate Mara.  She had a small part in the movie as well.  Along with Amber Tamblyn.  They played the two girls that he ran into on his outward hike.  It was before the entrapment happened.
For those of you who are up for those kind of movies.  It doesn't bother me.  My hubby had to take a powder and go to another one in the Cinaplex, because he was
a bit queezed out thinking of what was to come.  He is a cissy when it comes to blood, etc.  Truth be told however, it was not so gruesome really.  It showed very little of the actual act of removing the arm.  I was more about how he made the decision, and how he passed the time making that decision.  I have seen that real
man, on a television show, and I was in such admiration for his ability to do that kind of thing to save his life.  It is truly amazing.  I admire him so very immensely and,
the movie helped me even more to see the amount of sorrow he went through and the determination he had, in order to make that decision.  He had to actually grieve for the loss of his hand and arm that he lost.  The fact that he had to get back to civilization after having taken his arm off, was almost as difficult as the act itself.  If you are up to those kinds of things, I totally recommend it.  100%  And for those that have not seen The Kings Speech, that also is on my top two list.  The Black Swan being one of the top three as well....There have been a multitude of great movies this year.  Most of them, having been chosen would not be a bad choice.
