Okay, I don't have a digital camera, so I only have one picture of me on my computer (emailed from a friend) - and yes, I'm aware that it is hopelessly uncool to have to go and buy film and get pictures developed - I'm working on it! :)
So, this is the pic, and it's me with two friends on our last day of law school - we were at a friend's house before going to a big party at a bar with everyone from our year. I'm the one in the middle, holding the.....um.......cigarette - yeah, that's right, just a normal, run-of-the-mill cigarette. ;) My hair is like a foot longer now than it was here (and my eyes are usually a wee bit more open, lol).
P.S. - Let me just say that you guys are quite the good-looking bunch!

Paul: hair I have, in abundance, but take heart: nothing else works.
In fact, due to a post-mid-life crisis suffered right after this photo was taken, I now have much more hair; it's shoulder length, and I dress like a student, complete with shoulder bag (for visual reference, see the cover of this week's issue of New York Magazine, and the feature article on 'Grups,' adults who refuse to grow up). Believe me, It ain't pretty.
Leslie: it's not my office, it's my boss's--I'm in the much-smaller-next-one-over, but the view's still nice. In fact, when Avian Flu arrives in New York, I'll be one of the first to see it land in the duck pond just outside...
By the way, Leslie, love the car--wish I could drive (seriously, I'm a case).

This is possibly the worst and only picture I have of me! If you are wondering what I am doing with my face, my friends call this the blueberry as apparently I look like a blueberry when I pull this face. I only do the blueberry in case I look weird in the picture and then if I do I can blame it on the blueberry. There are no good pictures of me cause I look worse than that^ normally.
I don't know why I feel the need to show you guys, I wouldn't normally show this to people I don't know, but you guys are like my family.

Shuggy, instead of clicking on "Insert Image" go to "Additional Options" and attach a picture (this one you'll have to have saved somewhere - just browse to the folder you have pictures saved).

Yes she does! I didn't know she did until the breeder sent me pics of her before she was shipped to me. It's amazing that she does, because Kabuki is more the diva cat than Kenobi, but Kenobi - like his namesake Ewan McGregor's Kenobi - also has a beauty mark on his face.

I'm not a wiz with this cyber stuff Courtney, but I use photoshop for all my pix and all I did to reduce the Kbs was to reduce it on the canvas with the resize tool. Copy it while it was highlighted. Go to file and select New. The new canvas automatically sizes to match the pic. Paste. Save document as Jpeg. and close. Hover the curser over the thumbnail and a message window will tell you the size of the file. If it is under the allotted kb's for posting here, it will be accepted when you browse and attach.........Does any of that make sense?

Thanks Jude! Since both cats are of Asian extraction (one is a white oriental shorthair - a white Siamese essentially - and the other a mi-ke Japanese bobtail - the inspiration for the famous 'waving paw' cat statues you see in some Asian restaurants/businesses), I kinda wanted to keep their names in that vein. Kabuki named after the white Kabuki masks and of course, Kenobi after Obi-Wan Kenobi which is kinda Asian-like.
My two previous cats I had from childhood died from old age not so long ago (one of those was a stray and the other a mix breed Siamese) and I realized my house was not a home without cats. I love all animals as pets, but dogs need a lot more attention and room than I have time in my current life to give to them. My cats are demanding enough, jeez especially Kabuki who is an attention hound and Kenobi who is a drama-queen.

What is a tortoiseshell cat? What does that mean?
Kenobi is mi-ke which means 3-color in Japanese. It's the same thing as calico (their registered names are Kabuki Koneko [Ko - little, neko - cat] and Kenobi is Kinume Neko [golden-plum cat]).

I don't know. I looked it up, some say it's just a difference in regions - calico is American and tortoise-shell is U.K. but means the same thing. Others say tortoiseshell is a combination of cream, black and red but calico is red, black and white or...I don't know.
No scanned pics of your cats?!?!? Note to Jude: run out and buy digiital disposable camera & take pics quick!
EDITED TO ADD: Ok, one site says unlike calicos which are predominantly white with solid blocks of color, tortoiseshell cats are predominantly black with the other colors red and white/cream interwoven.

OK, I put a picture into Yahoo Briefcase, but when I put it in here it's ENORMOUS! How do I make it smaller? (Digital pictures are NOT my friends.)
I'm not a wiz with this cyber stuff Courtney, but I use photoshop for all my pix and all I did to reduce the Kbs was to reduce it on the canvas with the resize tool. Copy it while it was highlighted. Go to file and select New. The new canvas automatically sizes to match the pic. Paste. Save document as Jpeg. and close. Hover the curser over the thumbnail and a message window will tell you the size of the file. If it is under the allotted kb's for posting here, it will be accepted when you browse and attach.........Does any of that make sense?
Ray, you are SOOOOOO funny - of course none of that made any sense to me. I'd be sooo useless in these matters. If it weren't for my friend who took my picture with his digital, cropped it, sent me a copy (last week), and today, reduced it so that I could use it as an "avitar" (is that what the little picture on the left is called?) and then looked over my shoulder while I posted my picture. Thank goodness for friends!

Hmmm... on Chanterais's mention of demographics... affluence... education.... I've thought about that a lot with this community -- I think there must be some common denominators. Money tends to breed education; education breeds tolerance of beautiful movies in which nothing blows up and of gayness; hell, gayness tends not to breed, hence more disposable income, hence on average so I've heard more money.... It also reminds me of the thread about what made us homophilic. I'd say that in raw dollars my family clung to the designation of "middle class" like possums to the underside of our back porch; values- and education-wise I think we were pretty damn swanky. Just thinkin' out loud.
I have a master's degree but no health insurance.
I have a new-ish Prius but still have a modest mountain of college loan debt. (But no car debt.)
I'm unwilling to spend money on things like clothes and shoes, but money's less of an object in supporting political and artistic causes. Since it turns out government is for sale, I'd better save up, you know?
This list is reminding me of someone's comment on some board or other that Crash was like an Alanis Morissette song in movie form so I'll wrap it up.

LOL! The minute my car starts becoming a c*nt to fix, that's when I start walking or something. Right now, the thing is a Tonka truck. Parts is parts. One thing breaks down, I just replace it and the things runs fine again, 238,000 miles later, original engine, original transmission.
My cat pics are from disposable digital cameras, pics I took on a recent trip to London were on my sister's digital camera. I own no camera.
LOL! I know about the white fur. My childhood cats were pure black and Siamese. Black fur for my white clothing and tan fur for my dark clothing.
Now, I've developed a penchant for stylish black and my pet hair remover sticky roller goes everywhere with me! At least the white hair blends in with my couch and bedroom!
And I'm with you henrypie, it's the education/intelligence/compassion that makes us richer than normal.

Sheyne - Actually, I'm not usually that pale. As soon as my skin sees a bit of sun, I tan super quickly. During the summer you would think I was a different person entirely. I'll have to wait 'til then and show ya.

Henrypie, your post got me thinking. When my boyfriend and I finish University, we will both have several degrees, be very educated but be very much in debt. And that's scary, 'cause finding a good job is questionable. And then I consider my brother and his wife. He did one year in University and one year in a local college, completed no degree or diploma or anything, and now he has managed to work himself up to supervisor at the mine back in my hometown. Between him and his wife, who also works at the mine, they make ridiculously good money, and it makes me question what I'm doing. But, I haven't lost all hope and thus I continue my studies.

I love this thread. I can't get over how everyone has taken on such a different dimension. I'm absolutely a visual person anyhow, but now I can picture you all speaking your posts. Skinnyhead's green eyes twinkling cheekily, Jude with her warm & soulful Jackesque eyes and a flick of that flowing hair, Amh with her beautiful smile creeping across her face when she's pleased with her post. I now picture Sandra Bullock delivering Barb's posts, and Becky letting out a peel of laughter from that happy face.
And as for Littleguitar, well, you are just my dream girl. If it wasn't for Marge, I'd be visiting you in South Park in a split!
These are some of the perceptions I now have since this post. You all just looked like enmoticons in our previous life.

Hey Courtney, Maybe someone just covered this in the post above mine (not stopping now to look!) but here is what I did. I don't have any photo shop software, but I use Windows XP and it has a simple application for images called Paint.
1) If you can figure out how to open your picture in Paint, or even paint preview, go to the little icon/button on the far right that "closes this window and opens the image for editing."
2) Go to Image in the menu across top of screen.
3) Select Stretch/Skew
4) in the stretch section, put in 50% where it says 100% for the height and width sections.
This should make your pic half as big, and you can play with it from there to make it smaller or bigger. Be sure to do both H and W so the proportions stay the same.
Hope it helps! It worked really well for me. My pic was huge too.

I think it's great to see us all. So many of you look different than I would have imagined. And others do look like what you sound like, so to speak. I am flattered by all the girl crush comments! and from Paul and Brandon and others--thank you. I can't wait till the day we all get to take our picture together!
And, I think a lot of us are educated and sensitive and warm, and some have money and some are in debt. We're at all stages of life too. Makes me pretty darn proud of our community.

Oh, I am experiencing the same damn thing. I'm doing my masters in Sub-Saharan African studies, and when I am finished, I will be fully qualified to be unemployed. Oh yes, that's right, I barely passed Biology.
I need to keep hearing stories like your brother's. I need to be reminded that people find their own way, every day. I listen to too many job horror stories.

Well it's a short story honey, it was only about three seconds I was on that bronc....seriously, it was exactly three seconds (hey, I have something in common with Ennis!). It was at our After-Grad night. Only instead of flying through the air, the next thing I knew I was sliding off and plopping onto the paddiness surrounding it (the thing was plastic and slippery, not fair!). By the way, my hair is a few inches past my shoulders now....

Mark - In your photoshop program, look for a resize option. That should let you save a smaller version of your pic.

OK! Thanks for the help, kirkmusic! This is me standing in front of the Star Trek plates on the wall of one of the most delightful beer places in Texas - The Flying Saucer in Fort Worth! It's January, and I'm with my Dad on our car-return trip from South Carolina. Notice the USC cap in the right hand. Don't know if you can see the Trek plates but had to be in front of them for my beer - swilling Star Trek geek friends back home. I'm a huge geek myself (should be obvious from the photo), and yes, I've been to Star Trek conventions, but I never wore a costume!
OK, this exhausted me, and I have to teach a class tomorrow on Irrevocable Life Insurance Trusts. Most of my students will be asleep, it would not DO for me to join them in the midst of the class! However, now that I know what the process is, I will give you guys some more (if you want it) soon!

I haven't bought all of my CD's, but I have some 9 000 tunes on my two computers, and a wall unit that compares to yours. Got something of an earlier start though (you should see my Album and 45 and cassette collection) but the link is in the music. My preference has involved pre-rock'n'roll music these past few years (my focus in on pop tunes - their original version), but that has not prevented me from purchasing the BBM soundtrack. Hell, your moniker is certainly well chosen.

I have cds I haven't listened to in years. There are a lot I've only listened to once and put away. It's cool 'cause, like recently when I saw the Pretenders and listened to their first album 3 times in preparation, I can rediscover great music I wasn't very familiar with. And the really great thing - when I get a song stuck in my head, I can go home and listen to it. ;D
roboy - I have a little bit of pre rock stuff. Sometimes I'll start collecting big hits from certain years, which will have me tracking down some artists that no one who wasn't there at the time would know unless they looked back at the charts like I do. I'm talking Gale Storm, the Fontaine Sisters, Horace Heidt, Freddy Martin, etc. It's fun.
And hey! If you ever come across a recording of Bing Crosby's version of "Dolores," let me know. #2 hit in '41 and I've only ever seen the Sinatra/Dorsey version, which only made #7.

You should have seen the cabaret show I did. Bobby Darrin, Paul Simon, Stevie Wonder, Suzanne Vega, Sting, Tony Bennett, I was all over the map.

i also have a huge music collection. there's this site, i'm hesitant to post because it might consume your life for a while like it did mine, but at www.listal.com (http://www.listal.com) you can make a list of your music, dvd, book, and video game collections. if you want to see mine i can pm you.
i'm not really big into pre-80s stuff as far as collecting goes (i do love me some dolly parton, patti smith, david bowie, etc.) i'm more into imports and singles and vinyl collecting, especially bjork stuff.

Is it too late to post pictures of our beloved pets? Ah, even if it is, I'm gonna anyway. Here's another photo of our dearly departed Layla. She died in August of 2003 at 13 years of age. I still miss her every single day.
I call this one "The Essence of Layla." It just captures everything she was about so beautifully. That's our other shepherd, Beauty, giving her a kiss at the same time as she was giving me a "shake." She looks so put upon, yet accepting of it all, there. Beauty died in 2002. Poor Layla mourned her solidly for a month - she fell into such a depression, we were sure we would lose her. Then she perked up a little, but never did return to her old self. She died a year later almost to the day. I don't think her heart ever fully mended.

wow, I had four pages of this to go through to catch up. Remind me never to go to bed before 1:30 am again!!!! This continues to be such a great journey to see us all and our pets. As the saying goes, a picture is worth a thousand words. And we've said so many thousands of words here that it's quite mind-opening to see the faces that go with them. Literally--we are making new neural pathways connecting these images, and our memory of them, to the concept of who each of us are to each other. Fascinating.

And Adriana, yes, Will is a darling duck. He's had those same bright eyes since the day he was born. They're always smiling, even when he isn't, which is rare. It's what made me fall in love with his father, too - that knowing twinkle in the eyes as if the two of you are the only ones in on some outrageously funny joke. And Layla being a beautiful heart with fur - I love it! That's exactly what she was. Do you know, she used to sleep alongside Will's crib when he was a baby when both Ed and I were at home. But when Ed was gone for work, she'd sleep outside my bedroom door, as if she knew she had to protect the mother above all when the alpha wolf was gone.
I've been so lucky to have so many lovely people in my life, both in the "real" and cyber worlds.

Am wondering as I look at the great pics about the significance of color here. Note that David is wearing red checks and Paul seems to be dressed in blue. Do these colors have significance throughout the relationship? What do they tell us about each person in the picture? Do we see red on David only at specific and critical times, or is this a color we come to associate with him regularly? Does Paul often wear collarless shirts? Does he always wear lighter colors? Does David hide Pauls' shirt within his and then hide them both in the closet on a hangar on a nail?

Hauling a whole sack of library books from Spadina back to U of T, and then along to Yonge to stand in line at the RBC for what seemed like an eternity. Stupid banks. We were walking between Avenue and Yonge pretty much - window shopping and stuff (god knows I can't afford the majority of stores along that stretch!). We hung out a bit in Indigo in the Manulife Centre - got some Starbucks, etc. We had breakfast at Over Easy - have you ever been there? It's kind of a hangout for us now.
And I don't live right in the city - I'm more in the Etobicoke area. But I have friends that do, so I'm always there.

No, I call that stretch the Mink Mile. All these women with their furs and their diamonds and Jie-coiffed hair. I'm a total university scrub who feels proud if she makes it out of her pajamas.
Anyway, nice to know we cover the same territory.
Was out at the Hummingbird Centre tonight seeing Wozzeck (my boyfriend's in it). Don't tell me you were too. Are we stalking each other? That's nice, huh? Mutual stalkers.

LOL - no, I wasn't at the Hummingbird Centre. One of my best friends lives at Bay and Charles so I'm in that 'hood a LOT. And "mink mile" is the PERFECT name for that area of Bloor. I'm amazed at some of the women I see there. Perfectly coiffed hair and immaculate makeup just to go shopping. And many of the small children are better dressed than me - Burberry this, Dior that.....

Sorry to disappoint, but I'm the hermit (ha!) living in the old city of York area. I drove Bryan home in the Bathust/Queen street area, where the picture was taken.
BTW - all of you non-Torontonians It was cold today (40 F/ 5 C) but that's only cold compared to what we've experienced these last many weeks. (there was actually ice on the ground (a frozen puddle) in the parking lot this morning!)

I was in San Francisco years back. It was spring, everything was still green, though there was still water rationing going on.
I was confused about the billboards I saw that said 'Know when to say when' and my hosts - a gay couple - explained to me that the diripping faucet meant that the billboard was about water convervation.
So much so, a little jingle went around about the toilets 'If it's yellow, let it mellow, if it's brown, flush it down." :P
Me and my friends offered to take baths together to save water. ;D
San Francisco was a lovely town. Got a crick in my neck from looking up all the time at the houses and builidngs. What a great place you live in Kirk.

Kirk, what I do with mine (some of the pictures of my drawings end up as 2MG Bitmaps) I transfer it into ArcSoft PhotoStudio and on the Edit menu, it has Image Size. It prompts me to specify a % of its current size - I usually select 50 or 60% and it reduces it down to a JPEG file - around 120kb and I save it and can then upload it. This doesn't appear to affect the size of the image I post cause if you look at some of the drawings I have posted, they come out quite large. I believe you can do this same process with Adobe PhotoShop but as I don't have it, I couldn't tell you how. This may be of absolutely no help to you whatsoever ??? but this is how I manage to do it - so if you have PhotoStudio on your computer you might be able to try it.

Re the photos, if you don't have the program that was mentioned above by Sheyne, but you do have Paint, the program in Windows for looking at pictures, you can do the same type of thing Sheyne is talking about. Open the picture and click on the icon that allows you to edit (if you are in viewing mode only, the icon is near the far right underneath the picture). When in edit mode, go to Image, in the menu. Then pick "Skew/Stretch" and in the stretch option, where it says 100% you just put in 50% or some smaller percentage, and do the same percentage for both width and height. It will shrink it for you and you can save that new smaller copy so your old picture stays the original size.

Sheyne (aka Hungry_hippo) is a fellow Brisbane dweller who you will come to know well if you don't already, and who I met through the IMBd board just before our escape to this site. We linked up and went to see BBM on the big screen on its last theatrical showing here in Queensland. We adopted a gold fish to commemorate the outing and it's name is Hippo. Sheyne and I are exceptional friends now thanks largely to the magic of Brokeback. She does have some gender issues, but that's another story!

Actually, I did wear a snazzy dress to mine. That was my friend's (I left the highschool we went to together) and I just went the before party to see her and our other friend. Here's me at mine, with my best friend (I'm holding his leg incase you're wondering - and yes, I have quite a few "best" friends, but he's one of my two my best best *I think I'm getting confusing*). Lol, and thanks about the age thing. I'm normally told I act younger than 18 so it's cool that you thought I was older.

Hey, guys--
I have my pic up now as my avatar, scanned and posted through the help of my big sister Cathy, who is much more tech-savvy than me. It's a picture she snapped of me at our humble domicile on the evening of Thursday, June 8, 2006, some hours after we had returned from a day trip to San Antonio. I'm standing in our living room, holding a paper.
The text I chose for my caption is taken directly from the 1964 feature Gertrud, the last film directed by the great Danish filmmaker Carl Theodor Dreyer. It is in Latin, and translates as "Love is All"--this was the personal motto of the film's titular character, and could, I think, be seen as one of the underlying motifs of our beloved BBM.
I hope you enjoy my picture, and can glean some idea of my current likeness thereby. I'd like to post more in future, as time and initiative allow.

I was on a sailing cruise with my parents and stepsister in the British Virgin Islands - they had made a coconut replica of me that day - the tin foil is its "helmet" (my stepsister thought my curly hair in all that humidity looked like a helmet and called me Helmet Head the whole trip - nice, huh?)

I've been to Bar Harbor a couple of times - hiking mostly, but also some beach time. I think I tossed a stick for a yellow lab where you're standing there on the each. I have special memories there, so it's one of my sacred places.

I don't never give it no thought! ::)
... if you download digital pic to Yahoo Pics, or Flicker or something like Webshots then use them on Bettermost, they come out smaller, for me at least.... Try that,

To reduce picture size (before I place em in photobucket), I use a program on my computer called HP photosmart premier. Don't know if it's a common program, or if this program's part of my printer's options (my printer's HP) but that's how I reduce or manipulate my digital camera's pictures. This help any? :-\

i reduce by using the microsoft paint.
Open photo on that.
Go to image--> strech/skew--> at stretch i type in normally around 50% in each and it reduce the size of the photo dramatically and makes it smaller to look at but also the file size smaller.

Well thanks loneleeb3 for the larger pic of Shasta's doggie. I'd never have been able to see it in the smaller one. It's the green and red ball that makes it hard for me to see clearly in the small one, but now that the pic is normal siize, I can.

And everyone's lookin' good, friends! 8)
I would share more pics of myself on our forum if I had the means to do so. But I have to enlist the help of my sister, who has the technical know-how and the digital camera! My sister was the one responsible for my avatar pic (both taking it and getting it to show up here).
Our member Melinda ('Sashca1007') actually has a few photos of me (some of which she took herself), and I'd be happy for her to share any of them here, or with anyone who might be interested in seeing them.

Here in Florida the colours would work really well.So many people wear bright designs.You could even have the painting made up as fabric and then have that framed.
Personally I like fabric paintings,just cause they are a bit different,

I am the same, and often feel you shouldn't look like that,you should look how you did in my imagination!!! I have to confess that I am a complete fake blonde.I did what I swore I never would when we came here and turned into,a bottle blonde.I really have very dark brown hair.
I only get away with it as one of my sons is blonde haired,one is mid brown and my daughter has very dark brown hair.What a mix.
Also as I am only 1 birthday away from 50 and with the big move, I decided on a radical change,that and of course,no one knew me here.I do not think I would have had the nerve to do it back in England.

Here in Florida the colours would work really well.So many people wear bright designs.You could even have the painting made up as fabric and then have that framed.
Personally I like fabric paintings,just cause they are a bit different,

It's funny you should mention a 'boy' cut. I was messing around the other day on one of those 'virtual makeover' sites where you upload a photo and you can try out different hair and makeup and stuff. Though I used to have longer hair when I was younger I never felt it really suited me, and when I tried on different virtual hairstyles with loads of hair, they just didn't look right. I think looking back over the years probably I've felt myself that the haircuts I've had that have suited me best have been quite short ones. I had fun too messing about with the various male hairstyles and facial hair, and came up with some hilarious results! It reminded me of years ago when I was at college.
One year for the annual charity "Rag" parade the university's LGBT society decided to join in the fun and have a float. After pronouncing having the theme of the Wizard of Oz, YMCA, ABBA and such like just simply too 'gay', we eventually decided to be totally outrageous anyway and have cross-dressing as the theme for our float (it was just about the only coherent theme we had mind you, as for no real reason than we wanted to and we had a load of money sitting in the society's bank account, we also decided to have a huge balloon archway made, and decorated the float with bunches of grapes and ivy lol!). We trawled all the charity shops looking for outfits, and the boys had great fun dressing up, and I was put in charge of make-up. Even the really masculine guys had great fun and really got into the spirit of it though I was a bit miffed that half of them looked better in a skirt and high heels than I did! :laugh:
As the only one of the girls willing to get involved in the chaos, of course I had to go along with the cross-dressing theme as well, and I ended up jeans, a check shirt, and a false moustache (looking back on it now, it was kind of the "Jack-1983" look lol!). My hair was dyed black at the time and very short - even shorter than it is now - and though I thought it looked good, my other friends totally missed the point and asked afterwards why I was dressed as Hilter! :-\
I'll have to see if I can dig my old photos out - I know I've got some somewhere of that day. Total silliness, but we had a great day, and we even managed to raise a fair bit for charity as well (though some of that was from people who said they'd pay if we promised not to inflict our unique sense of style on them the next year :laugh:)

Oh yes! The following year I was back at my "home" college in Lincoln (my uni days were split between two different universities - it was a complicated arrangement between two unis) and nothing quite so outrageous as cross-dressing went on in Lincoln, but a friend and I that year were put in charge of flannings (i.e. custard pies) - £1 to have your least favourite tutor or a fellow student 'flanned'. I have to say between us we were damned good sales girls and persuaded even the most timid and shy first year students to join in, because if they didn't want to do the deed themselves, as we came up with a scheme where we offered an anonymous flanning service whereby rather than selling them the 'flan' (a paper plate loaded with custard and aerosol cream), we'd do the deed on their behalf, sworn to secrecy about who our "customer" was. We raised a small fortune that year, and people would run a mile if they saw us approaching them (we rather cunningly developed a plan of hiding the flan in a box file with a big label stuck prominently on it reading "coursework", so no-one was ever sure if we were just going about our business as students, or stalking them with a flan hidden in our box-files! :laugh:)

we had 'hit squads' - we'd basically pull people outta classes (students, leacturers whatever just as long as someone had paid for it) & clingfilm and spray people with water guns... was fun!!!

I've mentioned in a few of the chat threads that my job has had the "big bosses" come into my office.
That means that for yesterday and today, instead of our usual "business casual" look, we've all had to wear "business dress" instead.
Some members told me they wanted to see pics of me in my suits, as that's a look they've never seen me in.
