And there's an idea of keeping a broom at the front door, maybe to sweep out negativity or evil spirits or something?
No offense intended, anybody, but one take I've heard on this one is that it's so any witch who happens by will hop on it and fly away and not trouble the house or anyone in it.
Obviously that's a very prejudiced interpretation. ... :-\

Yes, start out with rug burns, Chuckie...good plan! ;)

Im with you Chuckie. Thats how we consecrated our home . :o :o :P :D :D ;D ;) :) :-*
So it was not only consecrated, but also consummated? :D
And if you are feeling up to it, have some sex on your living room carpeting for.....
....for........ I don't know what for! Maybe Chuck will tell us!
Thanks, Friends! I have some very good advice here..and then there's Chuck's not-so-practical-just-now, but I'll hold in reserve plan.

I knew I could count on y'all!
I think I'll wait for the new moon to do it. (Or should that be full moon?)
Anyhow...David - it's a new apartment in St. Augustine. I am just out of my temporary apartment with housemate and into one of my own. It'll be about a 30 minute drive to work. I can walk to the old city and bike to the beach. I could also bike to where my sailboat is moored, iffin I had a sailboat, that is!
8) :D ;)
P.S. The Jack and Ennis rubber duckies love their new bathroom!
I think that's a very sweet idea of consecrating a home. I think you can decide on your own way of doing so. whatever means something to you. Chucks suggestion of sex on the carpet is one way. Having a new home is in a way, like a marriage. You are taking a new home to have and to hold. So, sex, is one way, solo I think would be best.
I've lived in my home 17 years, and it seems like a part of me. I don't think I've ever gone through some sort of commitment ceremony. Maybe I should. I love my house. You know what I mean, I love being here, it's my home, and that's something. I do have a couple of statues of Ganesha, He's my deity. He is the remover of obstacles, which are usually ones own fears and desires. something an "Ennis" like me should take to heart.
I'm for one or more Ganeshas. And clean, clean, clean. And sing, sing, sing. And really what everyone has said so far. We did most of those things when we moved into this house.
I have a cousin in St. Augustine! I haven't seen her for years, but she's still there. I'm envious Lynne. I'd love to live near the beach. That reminds me of the days when I lived in South Florida. We didn't live near the beach, but it was only a 10 or 15 minute drive from our house. This was in Plantation (West Fort Lauderdale).
Good luck with your new apartment Sister Mod Lynne! I hope you get everything set up and organized soon. :-*
* Sit some acorns on the windowsills to protect your house from lightening

Hmm. Isn't the oak, the source of acorns, the tree of Thor, Norse god of thunder?
David, are you sure your mother didn't have some Viking blood in her?
I've read that burning sage is supposed to be positive (especially if it comes from Wyoming or Alberta!) ;)If you need some sage from the Rocky Mountains, friend, just let me know. I just sent some to buffymon, as hers was getting stale.
I've done a lot of moving about the past few years, and I typically put my Brokie paraphernalia out first - the dozy embrace refrigerator magnet, little blue enamel cup containing assorted rocks, a shell and a blue marble, place the short story autographed by Brokie friends and the DVDs in positions of note. That is so sweet that you are keeping the little tin cup in all your travels!! I have collected so much BBM stuff that I have put it all into an armoire in my bedroom, and it's bursting at the seams!

Another thing I do sometimes is put on the movie soundtrack, put my sculpture of two horses in a place of honor (see my avatar) and light some candles.
I have used Chuck's method for christening a tent, but not for a house...probably because I would not want to shock the children!!
I think February 21st will be the auspicious evening - There will be an eclipse of the full moon.
Hey Lynne, check your calendar again. The February 21 eclipse was in 2008. (It was cool, though.)
The next eclipse is this coming Monday the 9th of February--a penumbral eclipse, not as exciting.

Wow, mine is March 6th...okay I'll get a nice bunch of Rocky Mtn sage to you by March 1st!
February 21, 2008...I remember it well. The Denver Brokies were lolling in the jacuzzi until the eclipse started, killing time. EDelMar phoned Vermont Sunset to sync watches. As the time drew near, he jumped out of the jacuzzi to set up the tripod and camera. I noticed he was shivering, so I grabbed my towel to run in and get a bathrobe to throw over his shoulders. There was a noise like 'glub,' and I suddenly realized that Adam's phone was on top of my towel. But no more...it was in the water! My hand plunged in after it and then I opened it and it made a noise and then the light came on, but then the light went out and the noise stopped. Offline Chuck next to me said, Did you just do what I thought you did? I looked at him with my misery face. I then spent the next 45 minutes standing around with a towel draped over my naked body while directing a hair dryer at the phone, and I didn't get to see the eclipse!! Happy ending: The phone was fine, and Adam didn't die of pneumonia after all! Plus we got a great shot of the eclipse!! Let's see, where is it...(Lee rummages around in My Pictures).
P.S. The Jack and Ennis rubber duckies love their new bathroom!
BBM rubber ducks!? I need to see a pic of this!

I will definitely take a picture of the rubber duckies! There may already be one on-line...if I can find it I'll point you there.
I thought it was a cup of sugar?
Time to consecrate your new home, Lynne!!
Let your S.O. paint one of the walls and extol him/her afterward. :)
Why am I just now seeing this? You're volunteering to paint! :o
Quick! Paul! Let's go pick out a color!!
He said one wall. Don't get too excited.
