Title: Memorial Brick
Post by: Shakesthecoffecan on July 18, 2006, 12:34:06 pm
I posted this in my blog already, but wanted to put it out in the mainstream as well:

I have an opportunity to buy one of those fundraisng bricks for a museum near my office. I was wanting to come up with something BBM related to say with it.

Right now I am leaning toward:  "Ennis & Jack
                                          'We was good friends'"

Have had some good suggestions as well, and am open for more. Anyone?

Usually those bricks have a limit on number of letters/characters. Do you know...so we can come up with something that will fit in the limit? I have given a couple of these, myself, for different causes. Nothing BBM, though (yet?).

Awww.  Your suggestion is very sweet.  I hope it fits!  It's a really good idea to sponsor a Brokie brick in a memeorial like that.

Hi Shakes......your suggestion is fine, and I think it is fabulous what you are doing...

One suggestion I saw somewhere else......Ennis and Jack
                                                          Brokeback sure got us good..

That not only refers to our boys, but also to all the people like us....

Well done mate, let us know what you decide.

How about something simple like:

Jack, I swear...
      -Ennis

or if you want to get romantic

Jack, I swear...
      -love Ennis

Speaking with the museum this morning I learned I could get a Jumbo Brick with 78 characters on it. I don't think I will need one that large. Have  had amny wonderful suggestions, that I hope will be used by anyone anywhere to put a bick someplace.

So here is what I have finally decided to put:

                       ENNIS & JACK
              "Ole Brokeback got us good"

Any possibility of two bricks, side by side?  One Jack, one Ennis?

I never heard about this. I'm not even sure if I understand it correctly: this is a fundraising campaign from your museum, right? You spend a certain amount of money and in return you can decide what will be engraved/put on a brick. What kind of brick is it? A real one, from the wall of the museum building itself?
Or a symbolic brick of any kind? A wall decorated with inscriptions? Somehow I picture a solid brick wall, the front of the museum building, full of inscroptions. But I've never seen something like that or ever heard of it.

Anyway, I like what you chose.

It is a "Paver Brick" and will go into the walkway leading into the museum. A river of words, names and such.

I had not thought about side by side bricks, they are $125 each, until Sept 1st, they go up to $150. I am not sure they would end up side by side, anyway I think I'll just do this one.

I settled on the wording because it represented a last glimmer of unbridaled hope Jack had before Ennis said: "I doubt there's anything we can do" and it also decribes all of us. It got us too.

Actually, they put these bricks in a sidewalk just outside the doors usually... They're standard size bricks except they don't have holes in em.

Very, very nice idea.  Thanks for doing this!  I also hope we get to see a pic eventually.  Or even the real brick itself.  Where will it be?

The museum is supposed to have its gand opening in december, about two year behind scedual. Hopefull before then it will be in place.

You know on another board there was a drive to put the DVD of BBM in every library in the country. This would be more expensive, but it is a very permanent declaration. Maybe folks could keep it in mind when they see a chance.

I was joking with a friend today that we should raise money to put a written copy of BBM in every hotel room, right on top of the Gideon Bible.  I think that honorary bricks and DVD copies are much more realistic!   :)  Just other ways to spread the word!

Hey Tru any update on the status of that brick and what you finally decided to have inscribed on it?  Just curious.

Ooh - very nice indeed!

What a wonderful thing to do, Truman!!

It may be the only BBM brick in the world!

Thanks for bumping and posting the pic, Paul.

Thank you for bumping this one, Paul. And thank you Truman for doing this.
Not long ago I thought of this very brick. I don't remember what brought the memory up.
I like the thought so much that there is a permanent memorial.

Here we are, 5.5 years later. And your words are just as Tru.
Damn, it got us good indeed.

That's beautiful, Truman, and the photo made my day!  Have you heard any reactions or comments about it?

I love this brick.  And all it represents to us.

Whatever other differences we may all have here, I'm sure we all do agree on that.
