Good morning everyone.
You may or may not b e aware that our friend and moderator Chris is in the hospital this morning undergoing surgery for a herniated disc in his back. Please join me in sending prayer's, good wishes and lots of postive healing energy to him today. His brother Shea is going to be giving me updates and I will share as soon as I hear anything. If all goes well Chris should be back on his laptop by this weekend.
Brokies are the best and Bettermost Brokies are the very best of all! ;) He's been through so much lately, let's all get together and send him our support emotionally and spiritually. Thanks

This news makes me feel both better and worse for not getting in my birthday wishes to Chris on the appointed day, yesterday (at least in writing). Better cause he probably didn't miss it, worse cause he needed to know how much he's loved!

Chris tried to get the doctor to agree to him being logged into the chatroom during the surgery. He said he'd just take local anesthetic so he could keep chatting in the O.R. He almost had them convinced, but they didn't have anyone extra available to type for him....

Here's the gist of it
......"chris asked me to let you know that hes alright. Surgery didn't go as expected. took a few hours longer then they hoped and the anesthetic made him very sick. He lost more blood then they hoped he would. The reality of it is hes miserable. Cant have a whole lot of interaction with Charlie Jacob and can't even go to the bathroom without someone with him. They are going to let him out of the hospital on Saturday if everything goes ok between now and then. He needs lots of physical therapy and hes very stressed about work. He says he wants to get online tomorrow but that really depends on how he is feeling so if he isnt online dont worry.

SO folks keep those prayers, good wishes, and positive healing energy flowing our boy is going to need our strength to help him get over the hump here. It's not easy for a strong, take charge kind of guy like Chris to be so dependent and have to rest and recuperate.

I assume the complications had to do with the doctors implanting the wifi chip at the same time they did the back surgery? Y'know...the wifi chip that will enable you to be on-line 24/7 no matter where you are in the world. So you can defend your post counts and Chat King status.... Tricky to combine technology upgrades and surgery like that, I guess!

The latest from Shea....
another update on how Chris is doing. Today was a better day as he slept through most of it. His back is infected and real swollen and sore but his spirits were a little higher today but they arent going to let him out until monday because of the infection. his immune system isnt the best probably due to his drinking and smoking when he was little. I realy think its harder for me to watch him sit there then it is for him since hes on lots of drugs and I think Charlie J misses his daddy.
again I appreciate your support and chris is forever grateful. If you would please give his friends another update.

Regulars here know that I am an LVN by profession, a person of faith and a very close friend to our Chris. He and I have been chatting about Brokeback Mountain and the daily minutia of our lives everyday for almost a year now. I am hopeful and confident of his recovery but I admit that I am worried for my friend.
For centuries, people of faith have offered prayers for the sick, often with dramatic results. More recently, medical research has shown consistent proof that healing prayers definitely have positive results for the sick. With that in mind and not intending to offend anyone I offer the following prayer for the recovery of my friend:
O Father of mercies and God of all comfort, my help in times of need : I humbly beseech you to see, visit and relieve my friend Christopher in his illness . Look upon him with the eyes of mercy; comfort him; preserve him; and give him patience as he recovers from this affliction; give your power of healing to those who minister to his needs. Grant him the help of your grace, that his sickness may be turned into health, and our sorrow into joy and enable him to lead the residue of his life enjoying the gifts you have given him, most especially his son Charles Jacob. I've been through similar surgery... and there's a good chance that Chris will get substantial pain relief from it. I sincerely hope so.
To Chris: the first 24 hours are worst, and it's amazing how quickly things get better after that. So hang in there and before you know it, you'll be back "home" among your Bettermost family! :)

The latest from Shea.... :'( ..... Pray please in whatever way or manner that means to you. Our friend needs our strength even though he would never ask for it.
Chris had a bad day. They sedated him because he wouldnt hold still. the infection is getting better though.
I'm not sure if chris has told you anything about what exactly is going on. He has degenerative disc disease and it causes him a lots of problems. They did a spinal fusion which is where they take bone from his hip and graft it to his back and they hope they dont have to go back in. Hes had problems with it for years. Hes been sleeping all day which is good and they will likely release him on Monday. pray!

Our friend Chris was up in a chair and on line today for about an hour. DeeDee, Jenny (newyearsday) and I got to talk with him in Chat. He says he has read this thread and really appreciates everyone's good wishes. He's in pain, can't laugh, can't talk too loud, needs help to do almost anything but expects to go home tomorrow where he will be confined to bed for another week before he begins therapy. He's miserable but in pretty decent spirits. Says the bright side is He got to hold the baby today with help and he's catching up on his movies. Saw Philidephia and Monster and is going to watch AI this evening.
So folks keep that healing energy and all those postive good wishes flowing his way. ;D Thanks

I echo what Victoria has said....if you are inclined to use visuals and energy in your healing wishes, you can help out by visualizing healing white light flowing into Chris's back, infusing his body to the core with health and pure loving energy. Do this with the intent to have him be fully 100 percent recovered, and imagine/feel the joy of knowing he IS recovered. That kind of vibrational message will go out to him, and it will attract healing in him. If it sounds like too much mumbo jumbo, just wish him the best in health and healing. None of that is wasted.
It was really humbling and wonderful to get to talk to him today. Makes me more conscious of the blessings I tend to overlook in my life, of which there are many, like this awesome community, just to name one.
All good things are speeding their way to you Chris, and everyone's love is right here for you, right now.

don't stop praying yet. Chris got home and got settled and we noticed that his back was swelling. we ignored it and he was rushed back to the hospital in a ambulance tonight because his back is again majorly infected. hes in stable condition now but is sleeping and I expect him to be all night. i dont know when there going to let him out now. its been a nightmare!

Our friend is doing very poorly.... :'(
chris is not doing well at all. hes currently in intensive care because of a seizure that he had at about 4am. the reasons is still unknown but they think it may be due to possible infection reaching his spine. if he doesn't improve by tomorrow they may go in and remove the infection. hes in stable but bad condition.
im very worried Victoria. not sure whats going to happen. please give his friends the update and i will contact you as soon as I know more.

and shortly after I received this...
they are going to conduct a spinal tap here soon to see if its possibly bacterial meningitis. our mother is flying out as we speak because the truth is they are not 100% sure that he will be able to make it through the night. ive been crying all day because they honestly dont know if hes strong enough and they are scared to do anything at the risk of causing more problems. its at a point now where surgery to remove the infection would only cause more problems which is why they hope to wait until tomorrow. hes very weak and pale Victoria. I dont know what to do im going to wait online until you write back if you get a chance tonight. i just need to talk to someone. i thought this stuff only happened in the movies

Well our friend made it through the night. And his Mom is there by his side ready to kick some butt and take some names. I have suggested to her and Shea that they insist that the hospital call in an Infectious Disease Specialist, if there isn't one in Layton then they need to get one up from Salt Lake City...and to not take NO for an answer.
Shea will tell Chris all our good wishes and that we love him and are praying for him, even if he's unconscious so he knows he has our strength to tap into as well. I believe in my heart he can recover from this if we all help him. He deserves to have his life and a chance to be CJ's Daddy.

Thank you for that good news Victoria! I haven't stopped thinking of him, sending my energy, since I read the news this morning.
Also, after seeing the lovely pictures of candles here, I am posting the following info for those who want some tangible way to help them in their wishes and prayers for Chris.
It's a website that allows you to light a virtual candle and write a wish, hope, prayer, etc, for Chris (or for any other reason). The candle will stay lit for you for at least 24 hours. You can choose to remain anonymous or give a name and/or location. It's a beautiful way to send a message out to the universe for Chris's continued healing.

latest up date from Shea
chris is in critical condition but is still breathing. he is completely unconscience and has been all night. my mom got here ok and were all just sitting by his side hoping that he is strong enough to come through this. he has pretty progressive bacterial meningitis and is on dozens of medications. I will keep you updated throughout the day. please update everyone.

She has done some work with Chris this morning (on an energy level, not in person) and passed on this message that she feels is important for everyone who knows Chris to know...
What Chris needs most right now is to feel our love, to feel us holding him in love. Though it is many people's response to feel worry or concern over what he is going through, this response is making it harder for him to have something good to hold onto anchor him here,as he fights this infection. So, she asks that to help him, we all do the following:
- Put a pillow on your lap (if you are at work and don't have a pillow, you could use a folded up sweater or jacket).
- Visualize Chris's body imprinted on the pillow--a smaller version than his real size, so it fits on the pillow (even though we have never seen Chris, we can still visualize that it's him we are holding on our laps.).
- Then, place your hands where you imagine his heart, head, or back is, where the disk problem is, anywhere that you want to send healing. Feel your love for Chris and send this LOVE (not worry) through your hands to those parts of him.
(The reason we use a pillow for this work is because it's easier to work with sending healing and loving energy through your hands when you can rest them on something tangible, rather than putting your hands out around air and having your muscles get tired from holding them up.)
- To do this work for his back, you can put one hand underneath the pillow, and one hand on top, imagining the pillow as his torso, if that feels right. OR you can visualize him laying on his stomach and send the love to his back from the top side of the pillow, like you would if you were giving someone a back rub.

he has pretty progressive bacterial meningitis
I am really hoping and praying hard for him... a school friend of mine died from this - its a horrible horrible illness.
But I also know of people who have come through the bacterial meningitis lightly.
He's in the best place - and they've diagnosed early.
Perhaps we could all make a donation to a meningitis charity while making all these best wishes to Chris?

yes, I know, it is not easy to put aside our concern. It helps me to think of situations where I needed to see on other people's faces their pulling for me and encourging me rather than their worry, which would make me doubt myself. And, for any woman who's ever been in labor, I think this is true too--they need to see calmness and that "you can do it" attitude rather than worry on the faces of the doctor, nurses, or partner.
So, try to keep the thoughts of worry to a minimum, and consciously send him the message that we love him and are fighting with him in our hearts.

If you are able please take a few minutes and focus your loving thought and presence to our friend. This is the latest note from Shea that I received at 12:34 PDT
there has been no change for the better but the good news is there has been no change for the worse either. hes still in intensive care on life support. the doctors said that if there is no change within the next 24 hours they will send someone from hospice over and consider those options. hes still not conscious which is good because the less pain the better. its in gods hands now the doctors have done everything they can. hes on every medication known to man and the other good news is i dont think hes feeling a whole lot. all we can do now is hope. he doesnt deserve this.
Bacterial Meningitis is fatal in 40% of adult cases, 25% recover but with some serious disability, mental or physical 35% recover completely after a long convalescence. I KNOW in my HEART that Chris will beat this, he is going to be in that 35% who recover completely. I KNOW this, I Believe this.

I have just heard from Shea again, they had a case conference with the Medical team and this is what he said:
the doctors dont believe he'll make it. they were finally honest with us and said that they never seen someone with meningtis as progressed as his survive it. they dont see a way back from this. its already put him in a coma and they said its very rare that even with all the medications for someone to come out of the coma alive.

staying positive is so hard in the face of so much fact but I am hanging on with both hands and praying for that miracle. They do happen I've seen it time and again, hopeless medical situations, doctors give up hope and then the patient recovers.

I just did this practice for 5 minutes while on a break, and after a couple of minutes, I swear I could feel my hands like a magnet on that pillow, over Chris's heart and back. Even if you don't understand this, please try it, you will be helping Chris so much. It really makes a difference when you can have a tangible image (on the pillow) of him, and putting out your love to him.
Thank you to everyone who is pouring out their love for Chris. He so needs it.

I used my BbM DVD cover as it represents how I came to know and love Chris. With it over my heart I sent all the love and healing it gave to me back out into the universe for my Chris. Chris, when you read this you will know how tightly I am holding on to you.

I believe our love is making a difference for Chris. I just spoke with the person who is doing long distance healing with him energetically, and she said that his colors (from his chakras and aura I assume) looked different/better and that the energy around him was better than it was when she first worked with him this morning. She said she could tell he was receiving love more now than he was before, which is great news!
She said that he still needs it, that there is no way too much love could be given to him, so keep pouring it on, because he's drinking it in.
This is all on an energetic level, so Chris would not be conscious of it on the everyday levels of consciousness, but belive me, she (Wendy is her name) is doing a lot of work with him to help him heal on multiple levels of the soul.

Chris probably wouldn't be conscious of this if he were concscious, but there are many levels beyond ordinary consciousness, and good things are happening there from what I hear, if that helps anyone to have peace.

This just in from Shea:
He's awake but still in very critical condition. Please keep praying. The doctors warned us that there is still a chance he might not make it. They also believe he lost about 40% of his eye sight and 50% of his hearing making him both legally blind and deaf. They said with glasses he may be able to drive but that is still undetermined, but we can work on that. We're just glad he's alright.

The very fact that he awoke from his coma, with bacterial menigitis is a miracle I can trace right to the incredible people here and in Chris's life all praying and sending healing and love to him. Our friend is not out of the woods yet, but together we can lend him our strength and help him amaze these Doctors as he recovers more every day. He can wear glasses and a hearing aid if he has too, it's a small price to pay to see his son grow up!

They are examining him and SHea is sending blow by blow reports...heres the latest:
they don't believe it caused any problems with his mental abilities (as far as mental redardation). He is having trouble moving his left arm and hand though and they are afraid that the mobility in his arm may be gone. He's still very weak and doesn't have much color but he is communicating to the best of his abilities and seems to remember everyone.
He can regain use of the arm with therapy, much like a stroke victim, just have to retrain the neural pathways.

I have been reading this thread and I have not posted anything in it because, well, I never really knew what to say.
I have always believed, and had very great faith in the angels... especially St. Michael.
I have been saying a prayer for Chris every night. I just thought I would share it with you because, I think it is a very powerful prayer. It is a good prayer to say whenever you (or someone you know) is in trouble (either physically, emotionally or spiritually).

I honestly believe that it was with all your help that hes making it. He doesnt deserve to die. He's been through so much. someone tried to kill him with a baseball bat when he was 16 all because he loved our mother and because of this he is forever punished. I havent had much faith in god in the past few days. It amazes me that criminals go free but he is going through this. I dont understand it at all but I have a little more faith now because of all of you. I know that if Chris were able to he would thank you all himself for your help. My brother has made some mistakes but he's a good man. Havent we all made mistakes?

You're right, he does not deserve this. Despite the fact that we've never met face to face, Chris is one of the best men I know. He is an amazing friend and kind and caring and one of the first people I think of to go to when in trouble. He'll make it through, I know it!

It's been a couple of weeks since I've posted but I got Victoria's email about Chris and panicked so I came back here to check it out.
Thank heavens he's awake and things are looking positive. :)
I will keep sending my positive energy his way and keep my fingers crossed that he stays on track for a full and speedy recovery. He's a very lucky guy to have all of you on his side. :)

I'm so relieved to have waken up and find good news. I'm still worried about that little chance he still have to die, but things are looking good. The power of love works people. The white healing energy works.
About hearing loss, if Shea and Chris read is I would like them to know that I have 80% loss in both of my ears. I speak normally, and hear pretty much with the help of hearing aids. I do have some trouble but this is something you can live with, you can have a job, and a life. He shouldn't really worry about that. It might be tough to get used to it, but once you do, it's not that bad.

This is the best news I've heard in - possibly ever!!!
I told you you were strong enough, Chris. I kept telling you that. Just like I kept telling my son when he wanted to come into this world 10 weeks early to hold on, hold on, I kept telling you yesterday and all last night. We all did, each in our own way. And I really believe that directed positive thought/prayer/energy has the power to do that, because I think we as human beings are connected by the common bond of our mortality and our knowledge of it, and all of us here have a conscious bond that makes us greater than the sum of our parts.

Just to put out there the reminder to please keep doing the "pillow practice" that was suggested yesterday by my energy healer, Wendy, who's been doing some work for/with Chris on an energy/soul level. She says he still needs that love and the pillow "method" makes it more tangible and easy to focus our love for his healing on multiple levels.

We love Chris!
Me too Clarissa. Life sure looks different from here. A lot of things I bitch and worry about regularly are things I could be really grateful for... For instance, being at this job that I don't particularly like but that often lets me keep up with things here to some degree. That meant the world to me yesterday. Life is precious and miracles happen. I'm learning that I feel a lot more in love with life when I can make a difference, somehow, and there are always opportunities for that. It's something that I'm grateful for out of all of this.

My modem finally broke down in the middle of last evening.
The stores were closed, I could not run out and get another one and I was cut-off.
I've been frantic, not knowing what turn of events might have occurred.
After work I went straight to the electronics store, bought a modem and just now finished installing it and came straight here.
What joy to read the good news. There is hope.
Last night, after I lost contact, Jen had told me to focus on love, healing and hope, but all I could think was 'Wake up, Chris, wake up.'
And he did.

Just signing off for the night, now; I'm off to do some pillow practice with Chris. I've been looking forward to it for a while now. Though it may sound strange to some, I am feeling very connected to Chris as I do this practice, and it's really helping ME feel better about the situation because I can FEEL it working, I can feel him absorbing the love-energy, and his spirit feels somehow a little lighter and brighter today than yesterday. I laugh and joke to him sometimes, and it's really great to feel like I can somehow do that even across the miles. I heard today that even spending 10 minutes doing this is really good for him, that time is different on the level of consciousness that this love is working on.
It's also teaching me so much about the heart, and what a blessing it is to open up myself and give. I see now how very closed and afraid we all are most of the time, myself included, and this practice gives me a way to jump across that chasm to the love that is abundant and flowing.
Thanks to everyone for your continued practice of this, now and definitely in the days and weeks to come. No amount of love is too much for him.

No word from Shea tonight as yet, but he has been on line and picked up the messages I left for him. In this case I can honestly say to you all that no news, means just that, no news. Chris is continueing on much as we last heard from Shea. And that is a good thing given the severity of his illness. IF there had been any dramatic changes of ANY kind Shea would tell us. In my nursing experience the third day is usually the turning point so I look for improvement late tomorrow or early Saturday. We will see.
So rest assure Chris is still hangin in there and fighting the good fight. Keep up those prayers and positive energy bursts, light those candles and spend 5 minutes every few hours sending your love out to Chris. He feels it, he's drinking it all in and he will get well. I believe that with my whole heart now. He will get well, it's just going to take time and we will help him do it by lending him our strength until he regains his own.

Well there you all go...Ask and you shall receive this just in from Shea
They are considering moving him to a specialty hospital in salt lake. a place that specializes in terminal and fatal illnesses. hes much more stable then he was last night but still has a fever. hes is both legally blind and deaf now. they conducted many brain scans and spinal taps and his readings are much better then they were yesterday. they also warned us about possible seizures that may affect him for the rest of his life but all in all i think we got lucky.
please give the update
I have to say I agree we got VERY lucky indeed. Our friend is alive and he is fighting, he woke from a coma when most with this illness do not. We got lucky, we are blessed, and if you didn't believe before you must believe now in the collective power of prayer. :D

I'm sorry to be so on edge, but I practically lived in the hospital for a month with my Grandma, and it's just hideous when conditions constantly go up and down... I am so concerned about him... Yes honey he is still conscious and he is more stable today than he was yesterday. Actually this is excellent news to me, in that kind of specialised hospital setting he will get the kind specialised infectious disease care I was telling you about. Still having a fever with bacterial meningitis is not so very unusual unless it's spiking 103 or over.
I am so glad to hear he is stablizing. He will also get the kind rehab he needs for the sight and hearing issues and the loss of strength in his left arm in this specialised setting. Seizures may be a problem but...Has he had anymore since the coma? the answer I think is no, he only had the one. Everyday he goes without a seizure lessens that possibility, but if they do occur they too can be controlled with medication. This is all excellent news all in all. Be prepared he will probably go through a period of depression about the disabililties where we all will need to remind him how lucky he is to be alive, to be able to be a father to CJ, to feel the sun, to have so many friends who love him. That's one of the reason I want to have asked Shea for an address where some of his closest friends here can send him cards and notes to help keep his spirits up.
No one is giving up on Chris, not us, certainly not Shea or his Mom. This is a move in the right direction. Rest assured that they will not move him until he is strong enough to be moved and when they do they will probably life flight him since Salt Lake is about 45 minutes away by ambulance and that;s a hard trip for someone critically ill.

Thanks for the update. We have been waiting all day for updates on Chris. I have the same concern about moving him to another hospital, but I guess we should trust the doctors (though at this time, our faith in them is a little bit shaky now) that it's the best for Chris. But I agree with you and Mandy that under the circumstances, we got lucky.

Thanks Geri, I am but it's a good tired because we are seeing so much positive results from all this hard work we are doing for Chris. I love him, he is my friend I could do no less. Actually I could do no less for anyone of you here. We are a community, a family and we take care of our own.

Every morning as soon as I wake up, at least once a day for 15 minutes and for an hour every night before I sleep I hold Chris in my arms and channel my energy, strength, prayers and love to him. It can't hurt and it certainly seems to be helping I believe firmly in the power of prayer.

Just to clarify where we are. I have suggested to Chris's Mom and Shea that what he should be seeing at this time is an Infectious Disease Specialist. His illness has progressed beyond the ability of his Orthopeadic Surgeon to handle. He needs someone for whom life threatening infecton is no stranger. This is part of the reason for the contemplated move to Salt Lake City. His transfer to a rehab facility is eminent but that doesn't mean today or even tomorrow. It is perfectly reasonable that Chris will be in a skilled setting for a number of weeks, possibly months before he has recovered enough to return home for outpatient therapy.
Chris has lost 25% of his vision. But his hearing seems to be more dramatically affected. After 25 years in peds I am well aware that this is not unusual after meningits. He's actually very lucky to have no brain damage. As many of you know bacterial meningitis patients suffer incredible intracranial pressures. In fact the prognosis is very poor despite early admission to the intensive care unit. For some the seizures are incredible.
I post Shea's reports to me as he sends them, in his words, because I think it would be disrespectful to do other wise. Anyone who has questions please feel free to PM me.

I am really happy to see that the estimate for Chris's vision loss is down to 25% now from the original 40% that was given on...whatever day that was! That is great news to me. After all, we want him to be able to watch them life-changing and life-affirming movies as he recovers. I've started a list already. :) And what Natali/Opinionista wrote about having 80% loss of hearing in both ears and still leading a good life, well that just made me see how much we can overcome obstacles like that. Thank god for hearing aides, thank god for glasses, and thank god for good physical therapy. Full speed ahead, steady as she goes....

What many of us are doing (I hope) with our pillow time is a simplified form of sending Reiki, which is basically loving, healing energy. And from what Wendy (the energy healer who is working with Chris long distance) is telling me, Chris is really still needing that healing love and light, is thirsty for it, on a soul/energy level. I guess that now would be as good a time as any to introduce myself. I am rather new to this board and while I haven't had the honor of chatting with you I have heard many good things about you from the members of this board. I was at a campout in Buffalo, WY last month and several Brokies there had nothing but wonderful things to say about you. My family was affected by the same illness you are fighting and I know it can be a real bear to handle but I am sure that you will have it hog tied in no time. I want you to know that I am praying for you and your family and you are constantly in my thoughts.
On another note, I am more or less a neighbor, so if you or your family need anything get ahold of me.

Yes darlin he is awake and talkin to people, answering questions, all of that. BUT he is still gravely ill, very weak and still running a fever. He sleeps alot, but he responds to those around him to best of his ability and his mind and personality are intact.

What else comforts people when things go bad? This is a very good topic to start. Some of my faves are:
1. Chocolate ice cream
2. Taking my flower essences--they work
3. Watching favorite movies or finding a good one on TV those rare times when they are on regular TV
4. Sitting in the garden across the street
5. Coming here and finding someone to PM or chat with
6. Singing
7. Playing a little Mbira (african thumb piano I sorta know how to play)
8. Taking a nap.
who else?

My thoughts tonight...I have been lighting candles--both virtual and real--for the past two days, and each one is a magic seedling of love released the moment it is lit, sending a message out across the airwaves. Believe me, the love and thoughts and light and prayers we are sending are working. Let's keep going--together, we will all deliver Chris back to health.

Some things to comfort me when things go bad....
1. Vanilla ice cream and cookies (all mixed together in a bowl) with some chocolate syrup squirted on top.
2. Playing my cello and violin brings me tremendous comfort (especially when I play "Cello Suite No. 1 in G Major" or the "Christmas Concerto" by Corelli on my violin). Lately I have been trying to send my music to our friend Chris for healing and comfort.
3. My dog Cody.
4. When my boyfriend holds me tightly in his arms and makes me feel as if nothing in the world can hurt me.
5. Sandalwood and Potouli incense.
6. Watching Brokeback Mountain :)
7. The familiar creaks and pops of my house. It reminds me that I am home.
8. Friends and family all gathered together and enjoying each other's company.
9. The sound of my boyfriend snoring on one side of me, and my dog snoring on the other side of me. :)
10. The Sims 2!! I love that game!
11. Playing in my chamber orchestra every other weekend. The peace and warmth that fills my heart when we are all together making music cannot be described.
12. Popcorn!! :)
13. Puppies and kittens!
14. Emailing family and friends around the country and overseas.

Thank you for this David, I know on some level he hears and feels it. Music is a very powerful way to communicate and I was told by a Reiki specialist at hospice that the vibrations of string instruments most closely mimic the vibrations of our bodies energy fields.

I'm very glad you posted this Vic. I have been working in the field of frequency based healing for a number of years. In fact my heart takes me more and more into this field every day, and every day I am amazed at how real and effective this is. I encourage everyone to take this seriously because every little bit really does help. It doesn't matter if you "know what you're doing" or not, or if you know what is wrong or not, just having the intent of healing is enough, particularly if you focus on the heart (both yours and his).
I haven't talked about this side of my life much on BetterMost because it simply didn't seem appropriate or relevant, but reading Vic's announcement of Chris's critical condition shocked me into action. I did what we call a distance healing on Thursday night (in Australia), where a "field of frequency" is built up around and in my body that I "sent" to Chris. I didn't need to know exactly where he is, my intention and the universe takes care of that. Based on the time difference this would have been between 7:15 and 7:30 am on Wednesday morning in the U.S. I make no claim that this in any way resulted in Chris coming out of his coma, I only tell you this story because this is my way of doing what Vic is talking about in her post about the chakras.
Again, my simple and only point here is that you do not have to know a specific technique like I describe here. The only thing that matters is that you care and that you give intent (that means you decide to do so with determination). Visualise the chakras, or on Chris' spine if this seems right to you, but whatever seems right (prayer, meditation, singing of a dedicated song, writing a note and setting it on fire so the smoke lifts into the atmosphere) - absolutely anything that seems right is right.

Bless you Aussie Chris, for all you are doing. I know it is having a very positive and beautiful effect on Chris. I'll just re-iterate here, since a few postings have been made now about energy healing, that using a pillow and imagining a mini version of Chris on it is a really easy and effective way to focus your healing love to Chris's body. To have something tangible--the pillow--to place your hands and their healing/loving intent on, makes it much easier IMHO. Or if you are visually inclined, using pictures like the ones posted here, of the body with chakras and light surrounding it, is also a great way to send light-filled love to our dear friend.
I've even begun to do this practice when I don't have a pillow and I just visualize myself sitting there with one (when I am standing on the subway, for ex) and if I close my eyes I can still feel it working. Aussie Chris is right, even if you feel like you don't know what you are doing, your intent and love are working, and are all that is needed.

I just took a walk in the botanical gardens up the street from me. It's a beautiful summer afternoon here, breeze blowing, sun shining through the trees, and I went over to be with nature and my thoughts after a day spent mostly here on the computer.
I stood for a long time on the edge of a large pond where I watched turtles and large koi fish milling about gracefully in the water, coming up out of the murkyness for a gobble of some morsel, or passing through the surface just 'cause. I was listening to U2's Walk On, and though not every part fit, it felt like it was speaking to Chris and his ordeal this week. To me it sang of the strength I want him to have to keep going; the undeniable goodness of him and how this illness can't take away who he is; the new journey he's on with its miracles and its hardships; and how he going to have to leave some things in the past and let go into this new life. I hope to God he's getting from us how much we support him, love him, and will walk with him into the new day. I wish I could post the song here, so he could hear it, but I don't quite have it together enough to do that, so here are just the lyrics:

Hello everyone, I have had so many phone calls, emails and PM’s in the last few days requesting updates on Chris. I have no news to share. Due to recent circumstances Chris’s family has elected to preserve their privacy and have no longer been communicating. While I deeply respect that as their wish and their right I would like to encourage you all to continue to pray for Chris, send him your good wishes, love and strength mentally and spiritually, post get well messages on this thread for him to read when he is well enough and of course light those candles to help him find his way back.
Should I hear anything at all, I will let you know.

It is pouring rain in the flood plain of the Mississippi Valley, and the rising river begins to threaten all manner of private homes, including that of the local Rabbi.
With water coming into the ground floor, a rowboat with police comes by, and the officer shouts, "Rabbi, let us evacuate you! The water level is getting dangerous."
The Rabbi replies, "No thank you, I am a righteous man, who trusts in the Almighty, and I am confident he will deliver me." Three hours go by, and the rains intensify, at which point the Rabbi has been forced up to the second floor of his house.A second police rowboat comes by, and the officer shouts, "Rabbi, let us evacuate you! The water level is getting dangerous."
The Rabbi replies, "No thank you, I am a righteous man, who trusts in the Almighty, and I am confident he will deliver me."

chris is fine. they are going to move him on Thursday to a place in salt lake and until then he'll just sit tight here. hes out of intesive care and doing pretty well.

Okay, this is showing my age but a long time ago I used to watch a cartoon called Quick Draw McGraw. One of its characters was Snuffles the bloodhound, who would only help Quick Draw and his sidekick Baba-Looey after he was given a dog biscuit. Once he'd popped that treat in his mouth, he'd moan in joy, hug himself euphorically, then levitate above the stage before floating back to the floor in an orgy of treat-satiated nirvana.
That's me today, my little buckaroos, my dudes and dudettes, my. . . (cough) Sorry. Reining myself in here.
Still, that is me today. Because Chris is getting well and as we speak plans are being made to get him the therapy he needs to complete the journey. This is the day toward which we have all been working for almost two weeks now, the day when we finally get to see the results of all our worry, prayers, light, love, candles and copious good wishes
It's simply a day to celebrate . Our Friend is getting well one day at a time and that is a very good thing.

I've got a smile on my face--this is the best news that I've gotten since last Wednesday when we heard that you'd woken up, Chris. I can't tell you how happy I am to hear word from Shea, especially that you are out of ICU and will be moving to SLC on Thursday. When you come back here, you can use Sally Fields' famous quote from her 1985 Oscars acceptance speech, "You like me! You really like me!"
You bet we do, and we won't be letting you forget it either.
I know the next few days and weeks will be especially tough for you, so I am greeting this new phase of your recovery with a quote from The Princess Diaries, starring our own Anne Hathaway. This is an excerpt from a letter her character finds that was written by her father:
"It is a custom in my family to pass on a piece of wisdom when one reaches this age; I pass it on to you as my father passed it on to me. Got this unexpected gift when I came back from lighting candles for Chris tonight. G*d is good, this is an everyday miracles you have all helped to bring about. I was talking to the Physical Therapist working with my Dad today and he use to work in the University of Utah Health Sciences Spine Rehab Center in Salt Lake and he said even they called patient's like our Chris miracle men. He was full of information that gave me hope for our friend. Please don't give up now that Chris is on the mend he continues to need our prayers, our love, light, strength and support. As you can see Shea is saving all our messages and greetings for him.
just wanted to give an update. they are moving chris tomorrow. hes stable and in pretty good condition. theyre hoping to let him out in two or three weeks.
i have printed out everything that has been sent to him from you guys. chris cant read right now but i have saved it all in a folder. they are going to get him an eye doctor after they move him.

Holy crap!!! It's been a bit since i have been here, and what happens!! I sat here and scrolled through ALL the posts, 3:30am here, work tomorrow...BUT i am able to go about my routine and that is not something to take lightly...too bad i have to be reminded so often that just everyday living in health and peace is a gift from Creator...
Chris...what can I say that has not already been said...you are a fighter, and you are on your way back.We have to believe there is a reason for everything that happens to us....no religiousity here, just fact, who or whatever we believe that guides us and controls our destiny has a reason....it may be years and years for it to become clear to us....but i believe it will...
Take good care, be patient with your body...it has been pretty beat down and it will take time to heal...but you've got time...and that is also a wonderful gift....

Jack says when you're goin to Salt Lake today, "Don't let that driver start redlinin it all the way there, or even half way there, ok Chris? That rehab place ain't goin nowhere. Let it be!"
Ennis also has a message, which is, "Tell that driver to keep his eyes peeled for any curves in the road. We want cha to arrive in one piece, though you sure as hell seem in one piece to me."

I just want to say thank you, Chris, for getting me back to work on my novel again. Remember, it wasn't so long ago, just over a month, that we were chatting late at night and I told you all about the book I was writing. Well, U were so attentive and appreciative of my thoughts that I started thinking about it more and now I'm ready to go back to work on it. I ain't sayin I'm ever going to finish it, but if I do, I'm dedicating that novel to U, Chris. Thank U buddy.

Oh my God, I can't believe what I'm reading here. I'm just back from my holidays and read what happened. This is so bad. I'm really shocked and my heart goes out for you, Chris.

Reading through the candles, there are many beautiful new messages thanking Chris's friends for their support and love during the past week and a half (and more like 2 weeks really, if you count the initial surgery).
Many of these messages are signed "anonymous" but there is one that is signed "The Family."

It's SO great to hear that you're making steady progress down the road to recovery Chris. People beat the odds all the time. When my 80 year old Grandad had half his stomach removed donkey's years ago the docs gave him a 5% chance of making it through the surgery, yet there he was 4 days later sat up in bed and flirting with all the nurses, the old dog. Just keep going, one day at a time - that's all you need to do. Small steps, small steps.

We are down to less than 50 candles burning, many will go out sometime today...some of you will think because Chris is on the mend that he doesn't need our prayers anymore. The first six weeks after major surgery are a critical time for any patient, lots of things can still go wrong even with a smooth post operative course and Chris's has been anything but smooth. He still needs us to send him love, positive thoughts and energy, tie your good wishes to a candle on the candle site and llight one for our missing comrade.
I urge everyone of Chris's friends and his fellow moderators to show their good wishes, their kind hearts and caring natures and light him another candle today and every day until he is well enough to rejoin us here.
I know I will continue to leave a light burning for Chris to find his way back to us

My neigborhood doorman, Mr. Solamon, asked how you were tonight (he's the sweetest guy, and heard about your coma from me a couple of weeks ago now, almost, when I was a little down and worried about that). I told him you were doing better, and he said "just gotta keep praying, like you said," which was sweet.

My latest note from Shea... GOOD News all around I'd say... :D
chris is fine. they got him and eye and ear doctor and are working on making the appropriate corrections. he says that if hes feeling well enough that maybe he'll get on for a few minutes this weekend. hes making a pretty good comeback and his spirits are pretty high. nevertheless the doctors have increased his anti-depressants and anti-anxiety medications significantly and although he cant hear or see very well he is communicating surprisingly well. he still has no mobility in his left arm/hand and can't walk around for more then a few minutes without suffering from dizziness and headaches but of course in due time and with proper treatment those things can be fixed. i will talk to chris about the address for this place and if anything i can give you the address to his work or something and you can send him things there and i can give them to him. sound like a plan?

Yay!!!!!! This is so great to read. I was thinking about the balance issue this morning, remembering that the functions of balance and orientation in space are largely governed by apparati in the ear area which have no doubt been affected by the meningitis. But I'm so happy that he is feeling in high spirits considering everything. Thank you Victoria!

This is good news. As I have been doing with my own family matters, I find I spend a lot of time trying to remind myself that if you can't fix it you gotta stand it and carry on as best you can. I am confident that as things progress, day by day, there will be improvement and a return to normalcy. And also remember those meds can make one feel abnormal at least until one adjusts to them.
It is actually amazing to me how much has happened with folks since January. But I am glad that we can remain a constant place of comfort for people to visit and relate to each other for support and overcoming these obstacles of life.

Chrissy baby!!! (as I used to say to my brother when I was little :)) I can't tell you how good it felt to talk to you today. Perma-smile for about 3 hours. That wasn't just some high class entertainment, that was some soul-feeding goodness and love we had there.
I wonder if you can really grasp all the love here for you. Probably, but golly, it's something else. I'm really happy today, and no matter what happens, I know this community is worth a lot. Sure, we may be out of our minds, but it just means we are more in our hearts too, and there's nothing better as far as I am concerned. Can't wait till you're all fed up good on this thread we got goin for ya, and the love in it will be inside you, for good. Oh Chris, I've been reading the bits and pieces of Chat transcript that folks have sent me and I have been laughing and crying. It is so good to read your words, KNOWING they are your words because I recognize you behind them. KNOWING you were actually on line. I am so disappointed I could not be here to talk with you today, but so over joyed that YOU were HERE and so many of our wonderful friends were there in chat to greet you.
I miss you so much my friend, so much life has happened with all of us while you have been ill but it was all eclipsed by worry for you. Most of us came together as a community to cheer-lead you on, pray, light candles, channel healing energy and light to you and lots of lots of positive energy. And we have filled this thread with love and well wishes for you. People even came back just for you, Hilary, Paul, Brandon, Sheyne.... you have touched so many lives.
Keep up the good work my friend and I hope I will be able to talk to you myself the next time you feel up to a visit.

Alright...those who know me know that i am not at all good with sentimentality. I cringe at the thought of talkin about love and can't express my feeling worth a damn (except anger...I'm a pro at that >:(). I don't cry at movies, don't cry at sad stories, and don't cry because I miss someone....in fact I have only cried twice in ten years in that was when my brother was undergoing dental surgery and when my baby CJ was born. I hold my sentiments in and they beat me down.
I've had some interesting times in my life. Mom was married 4 times, smoked and drank 15, got married young, got divorced young, etc...
The list goes on and on...I live by the old "God please show me the way or forgive me for being lost" saying. I believe I am God's test dummy...you know...the kind they use to test the cars...he puts me through all these tests to see how much a human being can take...sort of 'crash-tests'...
I met most of you last October on the BBM board on IMDB. We all came together sharing a common interest...Brokeback Mountain. Many people have often asked me why I connected with Brokeback...me being straight, married and as young as I am. I try endlessly to answer them the best I can, but the truth is my friends...I don't know! Many of you have come up with theories...some good some...not so good. But here's what I think...
I believe that God brought me here! I believe that he knew I would need friends over the next year...and boy did he do one right. I believe you are all heaven-sent my friends. Reading your messages (well Shea reading your messages to me) is the only thing that got me through this crash test in my life. Everyday I would ask..."Anymore messages" or "Anything else?"...he would read them to me over and over again. Made me feel good...I knew there were people out there pulling for me! The candles, PMs and message thread are all very special to me...I felt your love...your compassion...and your strength! And for that I am forever grateful...
Aristotle once said...."A friend is a single soul dwelling in two bodies."...I think he got it right! That is how I feel...I hope you all feel that same feeling someday...
You're all angels...and whatever may happen in the coming days...whether we stay together or drift apart...and whether we get along or not...I thank you all...and will always hold you dear to my heart!!!
And a very special thanks to Jenny (newyearsday) for her work with the healer...and to Victoria...whom kept you all updated...and stood with me come hell or high water!

Chris, you don't know me either (like Wayne - wdj) and I don't know you the way other people on the site do, from the other board and as you were happening month to month. I only know you a little after the fact, though I am privileged to have the same posts everybody else does so over time I can catch up a little bit But as I was getting deeper and deeper into the thread about the enormous danger you were in - and I was doing that as it was happening - and read and felt how all your friends were swimming around like dolphins supporting your head - my own heart almost seemed to stop and all I could do was ardently, intently wish for your rescue from that awful sudden dark force from nowhere.
And when I heard that things were turning, I had to celebrate in my own overserious private way, which was to listen to the third movement of Beethoven's Fifteenth Quartet which he wrote out of his own experience, 'Song of thanksgiving by a person recovering from a dangerous illness, to the Divinity'.

You have been thru one hell of an ordeal, and I am so relieved and happy that you are making a recovery.
Most of us ask the same question, about why WE got obsessed by this movie, why US?..and not some others.....I believe we are chosen for a reason.....and if one of those reasons, was to help you find the strength to recover, then it is all very much another wonderful outcome, of the friendships made thru this fabulous movie.

I'm arriving late to this thread, so forgive me for not being here to see it earlier. I don't know you as well as some here, but well enough to know that writing this wasn't easy for you to do. Which makes me all the more thankful that you did.
I'm so so glad to hear that Shea read you our get well thread, and hopefully our candle messages, every day. When you said in the chat last week that you'd seen the thread but not read it, I wasn't sure you were getting it in real time. But now I know you got something every day from us, you felt the connection we had with you. I'm so grateful to Shea for giving you that link to us.
You talked about how God brought you here because He knew you'd need friends this year... I've also thought recently that maybe one of the reasons I am at CT is to be here for this time in your life, to set in motion some things that helped you in some small or great way. I believe Brokeback Mountain brought most of us together because we connected deeply with the message that life and love are precious, not to be taken for granted. Ennis learned it too late to make a "sweet life" with Jack, but he learned it, and watching his mistakes gave many of us the wake-up call to not take life and love for granted. Maybe somehow, we are all here to affirm that same preciousness of life and love for each other, in any way we can, and not let it slip away like Ennis did.
Your illness was a chance for me and for many others to do that for you. I don't know why it happened, and I sure as hell wouldn't wish it on anyone. But it happened, and suddenly there was this urgent opening to love and to care and to act, to say, "To hell with cynicism, this boy needs our help and our love!" And we took that chance without a second thought. Life is full of mystery beyond our understanding, but sometimes there are miracles....as there was with you.
Chris, all I can say is jumping for this chance to help you in your time of need has given me more than I ever thought it would. From setting up Wendy's work with you, to lighting candles, to posting on the get well thread, and sending you love and healing light...it's all an incredible gift. I feel like a switch got turned on inside....it gave me permission to love more and to use whatever gifts I have for healing that I was too scared or shy to give before, or didn't really believe in until I saw what a community of love can do. I'm gonna try to keep that alive in me and do more with it. But I have you to thank for it, so thank you, Chris, for the chance to care.
I don't want to get any more mushy on you, so I'll stop there.

Today as I was cleaning up I caught sight of the corner of something sticking out from under my bed. It was the little pillow I used like Jenny recommended to send healing energy to Chris!! I grabbed it and tried to send healing energy to myself, since I am going thru a stressful time right now. The pillow energy goes on and on!

I lit a candle for you too, in case you missed it.
I often think of us back in the day upon that mountain. I get misty-eyed whenever I see the random wash pan. Why just the other day at the taxidermist's office I just about lost it when I came face to face with a mounted elk. You know friend, sometimes I think that our whole time together was just a distant memory from some obscure alternate universe.

Alright...those who know me know that i am not at all good with sentimentality. I cringe at the thought of talkin about love and can't express my feeling worth a damn (except anger...I'm a pro at that >:(). I don't cry at movies, don't cry at sad stories, and don't cry because I miss someone....in fact I have only cried twice in ten years in that was when my brother was undergoing dental surgery and when my baby CJ was born. I hold my sentiments in and they beat me down.
I've had some interesting times in my life. Mom was married 4 times, smoked and drank 15, got married young, got divorced young, etc...
The list goes on and on...I live by the old "God please show me the way or forgive me for being lost" saying. I believe I am God's test dummy...you know...the kind they use to test the cars...he puts me through all these tests to see how much a human being can take...sort of 'crash-tests'...
I met most of you last October on the BBM board on IMDB. We all came together sharing a common interest...Brokeback Mountain. Many people have often asked me why I connected with Brokeback...me being straight, married and as young as I am. I try endlessly to answer them the best I can, but the truth is my friends...I don't know! Many of you have come up with theories...some good some...not so good. But here's what I think...
I believe that God brought me here! I believe that he knew I would need friends over the next year...and boy did he do one right. I believe you are all heaven-sent my friends. Reading your messages (well Shea reading your messages to me) is the only thing that got me through this crash test in my life. Everyday I would ask..."Anymore messages" or "Anything else?"...he would read them to me over and over again. Made me feel good...I knew there were people out there pulling for me! The candles, PMs and message thread are all very special to me...I felt your love...your compassion...and your strength! And for that I am forever grateful...
Aristotle once said...."A friend is a single soul dwelling in two bodies."...I think he got it right! That is how I feel...I hope you all feel that same feeling someday...
You're all angels...and whatever may happen in the coming days...whether we stay together or drift apart...and whether we get along or not...I thank you all...and will always hold you dear to my heart!!!
And a very special thanks to Jenny (newyearsday) for her work with the healer...and to Victoria...whom kept you all updated...and stood with me come hell or high water!

hey another strange lurker; ive not been here long only a month. but all your friends being so sweet and sending you kind thoughts and prayers was very lovely to read. they all had such glowing ways of speaking of you, i felt i knew you and what a great and intelligent guy you were. i dont care what anyone thinks or says i believe good vibes do travel and reach the destination they are intended for. thank god you got some of them and will im sure continue to do so. get well soon and continue on your road to recovery and health. janice

I miss Chris too,very much, but I'm not going to post or PM him anymore. IF he's well enough to log in for a few minutes he's should be able to say I'm OK to his friends and well wishers the fact that he choses not to tells me he wants and needs his space right now so I'm going to back off. I still wish him all the best in his recovery, still care for him deeply as my friend, and my children and I will continue to offer prayer for him daily as well as light candles for him and his family as they walk through these difficult times.
If he wants to renew our aquaintence, when he's ready he knows how to contact me personally, he knows where we, his cyber friends, all are and that we care about him VERY VERY much.
