Heath Ledger & Michelle Williams To Live in $2.3 Million 'Treehouse'

Heath Ledger and Michelle Williams have purchased a legendary home in the Hollywood Hills that is considered by many to be a modern architectural masterpiece. The $2.3 million home was once owned by talk show host Ellen DeGeneres and has been dubbed the 'Treehouse.'

It has sweeping views and celebrity neighbors including Kirsten Dunst and Matthew McConaughey.

The couple, who have a nine-month-old daughter, Matilda, currently live in a Brooklyn, New York, town house and recently sold their beach front home in Sydney, Australia, because the paparazzi could see into the front of the glass structure.

The pair won't have that problem at their new home, according to Coldwell Banker real estate broker Valerie Fitzgerald, "Nobody can see into the property."

Ledger appears to have had a change of heart when it comes to bringing up his family in Los Angeles. Last year, he said he moved his family to New York because, "I didn't want to raise my child in Hollywood."

Well, it looks like our NYC Heath sightings will be fewer and more far between, eh?  I hope they're happy in their new place out there.  Sounds beautiful.  8)

They actually bought this house months ago.  they are only starting to move in now, so the press just got wind of it.
IT has been being worked on, and they are not leaving NY--this just gives them their own space when they have to be in LA for whatever reason-work, meetings, filming etc.
I am betting NY will remain their main place of residence, LA will just be their secondary residence.
IT is just safer and easier to have your own place when you have to be bi-coastal so often.

I don't know if ellen ever published photos or not.
might be on her site though who knows.

IF you can't see into the property, and they are protected from prying eyes, there is no reason to think that you could just find photos of the house, it would have to be by permission, and unless Ellen threw a party sometime and allowed photos--there may not be any.   And H/M have been remodeling it too so it may not be totally the same.

There are some in this week's Us Weekly (that I still swear I don't subscribe to or buy ;)).  I was flipping through it in yet another unusually slow supermarket check-out line - I have a real knack for picking the problematic ones, lemme tell ya - and they had a two-page spread about it.  The pics were pretty small but you could get the gist.  I'd have rather seen the views than the kitchen, myself, but it does have a lot of dark wood and exposed beams, which I've always liked and wish I had - kinda hard to come by in Florida, though.

Bit more house description.... (note, once again, Michelle is called his wife...)

Our property guru chimes in with some corrective info and a little somethin' extra to complete the story of Heath Ledger's return to the Hollywood Hills. As we reported last week, Ledger, wife Michelle Williams and baby Matilda, have purchased Ellen DeGeneres' superfab mid-mod masterpiece known as the "Tree House". The property guru emails us: "First, the house was not built by Marmol + Radziner. Ellen sold this house to buy a $6.5 million dollar Marmol + Radziner in Mt. Olympus.

Ellen sold the “tree house” to a commercial director who had bought it for his mistress. In the process of closing, the wife found out and made him drop the mistress and sell the house. It went back on the market nearly immediately and sat for 6+ months on the market.

The house is very “Gay-sian” in design and is surprisingly mid-market in finishes. KitchenAid, not Sub-Zero, etc. And VERY small bedrooms. Even the name “tree house” was sort of a semi-joke on more famous mid-century homes. There are strong Buff + Hensman lines, but when I pulled the plans at the city, there is no provenance. The reports are true that the lot is VERY private (walled, gated, set back from the street, separate gated driveway), however there are zero views. The house sits on Woodrow Wilson, sited to look into green treetops, no interior canyon views, no city lights, just forest. If you can jump the fence, the master has a shower with floor to ceiling glass, facing the yard so Michelle can tease the gardeners. Oddly, a remaining feature from when it was Ellen’s house is that there are lighted paths across this lot and the adjoining two that she still owns, connecting them at night. With Will Farrell renting the other houses, the two celeb families with babies can walk back and forth for play dates and shared nanny duties."

More on the move...

Heath's House for Rent?

Looks like Heath and Michelle left Boerum Hill without even saying goodbye. According to Australia's Daily Telegraph, "From his beginnings in Perth, to the bright lights of LA, to Sydney's beachside Bronte and New York's Brooklyn, Ledger has again become fed up with local lensmen, abandoning his new Brooklyn apartment and moving to the Hollywood Hills."

From an Australian newspaper...

WA actor Heath Ledger and his family have bought a Los Angeles house once owned by talkshow host Ellen DeGeneres.
Ledger and his partner, actress Michelle Williams, paid $2.3 million for the Hollywood Hills home where they will live with their baby Matilda, according to News Ltd.

DeGeneres and her Aussie girlfriend Portia DeRossi once lived the house, which is five minutes down the hill from Australian swimmer Ian Thorpe's home.

Comedian Will Ferrell owns the lot next door and stars Kirsten Dunst and Matthew McConaughey live nearby.

Ledger sold his beachfront Sydney home after claiming freelance photographers had pestered him and his family.

The couple bought a New York apartment before moving to Hollywood.
