Title: 7 questions on Easter
Post by: Kelda on April 09, 2009, 04:49:56 am
It's Holy Week, the most important period in the Christian calendar.

How much do you know about it? Test your knowledge in the BBC's low-calorie, chocolate-free Easter quiz.

Quiz Spoiler Alert!

Six out of seven here. I made a lucky guess about the Easter Bilby but not about the kite-flying.   :(

I was prepared to like the Easter Bilby, but essentially it's a long-nosed rat (OK, a marsupial, really) with big ears. ...  :P

The Easter Bilby?  I think not.  It looks like the Easter Bunny had a drunken night with an anteater.

I got 2 out of 7.  I guess I don't know as much about Easter as I thought I did, although, I must admit I really don't know about other countries' Easter traditions.  These questions were tough!

They  are very shy, retiring little critters. Sweet and cuddly. Admittedly, they do look somewhat unusual.

5 out of 7.  I don't know much about the Eastern/Russian Orthodox churches or what the heck a bilby is.

6 out of 7, missed the kite question.  But I love the info they give you on that one about Easter traditions in other countries!  Pretty interesting.

I'm going to take this quiz to get in the mood for Easter, which comes at the end of this month!

I missed this thread completely when it came out in 2009. The spring of 2009 was not a good time for me.

I scored three out of seven, a pretty poor showing! This question made me laugh: "For many children, Easter's religious associations are overshadowed by its more modern, cultural ones." and then it goes on about the Easter Bunny. These "more modern" associations are actually the more ancient ones that were adopted by the early Christians to make Christianity more palatable to the general masses.

I got 6 out of 7. I had no idea about the kite flying.
I did have an advantage with the Bilby. For many years our family have given each other Easter chocolate bilbies not bunnies. Remember that in Australia and New Zealand, rabbits are a menace with many methods including diseases being introduced to wipe them out but you only need to leave 2 and they rapidly multiply. All because some silly Englishmen wanted to introduce sport back in the 19th Century. The same goes for foxes.
Money from  the sale of cholcolate bilbies goes to conservation. I think they are cute although I have ony seen them in cages.
