Title: A Word About Private Messages
Post by: Phillip Dampier on April 02, 2006, 12:00:46 am
To manage growth efficiently on BetterMost, please delete private messages you no longer need to keep in your boxes.  There is no limit on the number of messages you can send and receive, but it can be easy to pile up a huge number of them if you forget to clean them out from time to time.  There is no issue with this right now, but I like to encourage good housekeeping practices here.

If you want to keep a copy of the message you are sending, you need to check the box that saves a copy of your message in your outbox.  Remember to clean those out when you no longer need them as well.  :)

Oh no ... not more cleaning!  I've got nearly 400 messages, I'll get right onto it, thanks Phillip.

You're not the only one Susie! I have about 200 sitting in my inbox too.

Thanks for the reminder Phillip.  :)

Oh, seems you have the same kind of dog I have: the I-LOVE-everybody kind of dog. Mine loves all humans and all dogs, without exception.
Not once in more than 6 years did he have a fight with another dog and he wouldn't be worth his feed if he were expected to be a watchdog - and that's exactly the type of dog I always wanted to have: relaxed, friendly and easy-going with everything and everybody.

Back on topic: I deleted about 150 PMs today  (::)) and will go through my outbox the next days.

You can always cut them and paste them to a word document if you are sentimental, and there is nothing wrong with being sentimental.  :-*

I want to remind everyone there is no dire need to delete messages if you think you need to refer back to them.  We have plenty of disk space.  But some folks never delete their old PM's and they accumulate, sometimes into the thousands.  This just wastes resources, which is why we like people to tackle deleting those they don't need anymore.  Do 50 a day and you'll be okay.  If folks did this regularly, you wouldn't be confronted with a ton of messages all at once to deal with.

We've gotten back an entire megabyte of disk space in just the last 24 hours, which means there were quite a few messages just sucking up space.  But you need not sacrifice messages if you think you still need them.

Guys, let's not get too bent out of shape about this stuff.  No worries here - let's just keep moving forward.  :)

A little of that was me, I've gone down from 87 pages of inbox to 82.  I'm shooting for 50.

Since I was probably one of the worst offenders (I am not going to admit how many messages I had)....

I just went in and did a big major PRUNE. Anything older than 30 days is gone. I started to read some of the old messages from friends who no longer post regularly and said, oh, I can't delete these...but I must. And I did.

And now I only have 116 messages. Phillip, you probably got 2 gb on me alone! LOL

Hm, maybe we should give awards.  That's awesome, Leslie.  I did that twice, just go back and delete em ALL.  It felt kind of empty and good.
