Hmmm. I can see that. Actually, first thing, I thought he looked like Alan Cumming. Big surprise (not): Ross is Scottish. Also, he may be off facebook, but he is on Myspace; he has 51 friends.

About me:
Ross Gardiner was born in the windy town of Inverness, Scotland on the 26th March 1987. He was raised in the mountains of Glencoe and endured a sheltered and dismal childhood drinking warm beer in a forest, interfering with himself and dreaming of becoming a famous rock star. At 18, University brought about change in Ross as he moved to Scotland’s largest city, Glasgow, where he would strive to ‘make it’ in the music business. But two years down the line, his dreams had become jaded and he did something that would change his life and put his existence into focus. He went to a comedy club. Music was out. Long winded stories and sordid tales of abuse and debauchery were in and he has only looked back a handful of times since. His first performance came on his 21st birthday at Maggie May’s in Glasgow and over the next few months he brought his own brand of filth to the top comedy clubs across Scotland. Ross moved to Korea in August 2008 in a desperate attempt to avoid responsibility and credit card debt and he recently kick started his comedy scooter again and has been lowering the tone of the Korean stand-up community since February 2009.

Ross's Comedian Bio
Stand-Up comedian based in Seoul, South Korea. Ross started doing stand-up comedy in March 2008 in Glasgow, Scotland. He made a number of appearances on the scene in Scotland before moving to Seoul in South Korea to work as a teacher in August 2008. He started doing stand-up again in February 2009 and since then has become a regular performer and an important part of the booming English-speaking comedy scene in Korea and Asia. He has been headlining and MCing monthly shows and is set to go on a tour of Korea during the summer with Canadian comic Brian Aylward (runer-up at the Hong Kong International Comedy festival 2008). Ross will return to Scotland in August to perform as many shows as he can between Glasgow and Edinburgh and then will be back in South Korea for one more year.

Influences:
Billy Connolly, Stewart Lee, Doug Stanhope, Bill Hicks, George Carlin, Jim Jeffries, Frankie Boyle, Dave Chappelle and the town of Paisley.

Ha!

Me too. A lot.

We'll let's start now making it clear
Who is the enemy, here
And we'll show them that it's not them
Who is superior

It's gonna be bad
It's gonna be wrong
It's gonna feel--
Good.

Marching the hate machines into the sun

What a cutie! If only I could "friend" him.  :-\ ;D

Actually, I had two less-than-wonderful Facebook experiences ... just yesterday!

First, this woman who lived across the street from me 25 years ago -- this kind of creepy, stalkerish woman who used to watch when I went in or out of my apartment and call me the moment I came home -- sent me a friend request out of the blue. She also sent a note, that said, all in caps "DID U USED TO LIVE ON" with my street and town from back then. Back then, she was just sort of a druggie. Now, apparently, I subsequently learned from a mutual acquaintance, she has become a conservative Christian outspoken homophobe.

Shudder. I didn't friend her.

Later in the day, I posted a status update that referred, obliquely, to the fact that I'm divorced. And this OTHER Facebook "friend" who is actually a total stranger -- I usually try not to friend people I have never even met, but this is one I let slip through -- responded by asking, "Do you mind being divorced?" As if I would get into a big discussion of something so personal and complex on my Facebook wall. I made a little joke trying to get past it. And she, apparently realizing I might have been put off, wrote a long response about how she didn't mean to get too personal but she thinks that divorce is always harmful to the children involved, blah blah blah.

I may have to unfriend that one.

I'm glad I've never been on Facebook.

And I presume "interfering with himself" (ref. the bio) means just what I think it means.  ;D

Watching this video put me in the mood to watch Bob Dylan's card-flipping "Subterranean Homesick Blues" video. I couldn't find it on You Tube, for some reason, but I discovered there's a whole genre of parodies, including this classic Weird Al one below. Plus of course the commercial Google made from the original when Dylan sold out.

I should clarify that, those two unpleasant experiences notwithstanding, mainly I love Facebook.

Thanks, John! I did. I liked "Sax solo" especially.

You know, though, I just realized that there's this small, finger-wagging part of my subconscious that gets distressed when I watch this genre of video, from Dylan on forward. At some deep level, I keep thinking, "Oh no! They're littering!"

Thanks very much, Heiðabýr; I wonder if the use of musical flash-cards now constitutes a meme??

(LOVE the 'thorn'  'edth'  'eth'  in your name, by the way--and the interesting possible layering of the name!)

Hedeby
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Hedeby (Danish pronunciation: [ˈheːðəby], Old Norse Heiðabýr, from heiðr  = heathland, and býr  = yard, thus "heath yard"), mentioned by Alfred the Great as aet Haethe  (at the heath), in German Haddeby and Haithabu, a modern spelling of the runic Heiðabý(r) was an important trading settlement in the Danish-northern German borderland during the Viking Age. It flourished from the 8th to the 11th centuries.

Wow, it's Rick from The Walking Dead. I had no idea, though I saw Love, Actually years ago, that he'd been in that. I didn't even realize the TWD actor was British (on TWD, he plays a guy from, I think, Georgia ... correct, Chuck??  ???). Does a good accent.
