Your zodiac sign may not actually be your zodiac sign anymore.
Astronomer Parke Kunkle says that due to changes in the Earth's alignment the dates of many zodiac signs have changed, according to NBC. In addition, there may be a 13th Zodiac sign: Ophiuchus.
Kunkle says that as the Earth and Sun slowly move the signs gradually change, as expected.
The change didn't happen over night either. The 12 signs were designated to different periods of the year almost 3,000 years ago, when astrology began, and since then the Earth's position in relation to the sun has changed.
While the sign many people were born under may now be different, it shouldn't affect horoscope readings, according to NBC.
See if your Zodiac sign has changed below. (And find out if your friends' signs have changed here or under the dates below.)
The New Dates:
Capricorn: Jan. 20 - Feb. 16
Aquarius: Feb. 16 - March 11

Hunh?
I'm really sure I'm an Aries and not a Pisces, based on what I've read over my lifetime...unless Pisces get Aries characteristics and those shift too, which may be the point I'm missing...
???
Update: Well, strike that, you don't get to switch your sign. At least reader StarJack says so: "The stars are markers that drift, but our main points of reference are not directly the stars. They are the equinoxes (both spring and vernal) and the solstices which altogether make the four cardinal points of the zodiac which in turn determine the signs. The stars help us locate those points which define the SIGNS of the Zodiac which remain constant in relation to the equinox point. The CONSTELLATIONS do move about and we take that into consideration when locating planets."
...
Oh, and BTW, Pluto is still a planet, too. ;D
Of course it is! Poor Pluto, just because its orbit is eccentric compared to the rest of the planets. I don't think people should discriminate based on eccentricity.
:D
I know, there really is something odd about the idea of all of a sudden switching signs. When you've grown up with a sign as an element of identity... it's funny to all of a sudden be told that you've been wrong all along. This news seems to be freaking a lot of people out. I've always been on the cusp anyway... but, I've always identified with Taurus (very strongly). Maybe it's one reason why I like watching bull riding. ;D
My theory is that the personality traits stay with the Zodiac sign. But how do you pronounce 'Ophiuchus' anyhow? And what are their characteristics supposed to be?
I can't believe I'm a Virgo now! I've been thinking of myself as a Libra for 48 years, so this will take some getting used to!
