In deleting my cookies today i came across a website I used to love and though i'd post for others to see.
It's a webcam at kruger national park in south africa.
http://www.sanparks.org/parks/kruger/webcams/ (http://www.sanparks.org/parks/kruger/webcams/)
I'd forgotten how cool it was.
(cross posted Tremblay & Anything Goes)
-
That is cool! Looks like a watering hole so animals will visit often. Thanks. I saved it to favorites so I can check in.
I'm sure I will never travel to Africa. Africa makes me sad when I think about it because there are so many terrible things happening there. To the people and the animals.
-
Its a great little website, yeah! Its amazing when its really busy and you can see lots of animals all together around the watering hole.
-
bump!
-
I LOVE this site!!
now if only I knew my African animals! LOL!!
the elephants and giraffes are easy...
So far I have seen some deer/antelope/gazelles??; a big ol bird wading around; and a whole pack of warthogs...
here is the uh, deer?
I think they are all girls except that one on the far side....it looks like it has horns!!
If ya'll do visit and see anything post it here so we can see too!
It is very addictive! Someone last night saw a BIG ol deer/antelope by itself...but of course I missed it!
-
If you spot things at night its pretty cool. You see there eyes before you see them!
-
Here is the website for both cams...

Kelda originally posted a link to this site:
http://www.sanparks.org/webcams/satara.php
Sometimes the webcam is down. Check back.
I recently found this watering site in the webcam forums:
http://www.sanparks.org/webcams/orpen.php
I yelled out loud when I spied these Zebras recently!
Check them out and post your sightings here. :) Seeing the animals in close to real time across the world is amazing I think.

-
All I've seen so far is that tree!! >:( >:( >:(
Keep watching Susiebell!
I started a thread in Anything Goes. I'll as a moderator to close it and I'll transfer my info over here.
Jess your pics are great! Seeing these animals live (giving or taking that 30 seconds) is amazing!
-
Here is a link to a second watering hole. I found it on the forum section of the site:
http://www.sanparks.org/webcams/orpen.php
If the webcams are down. Check back.
Here are "my" Zebras. I was so excited I yelled out loud:

The Elephant is amazing!
-
again - I should say - I take no credit for these pics - they are from:
http://www.sanparks.org/forums/viewforum.php?f=47
-
The webcam has been down since yesterday. I guess it happens. The oval watering hole webcam is up but I have not captured any animals yet. I saw an animal leaving. Not sure what it was.
I would have loved to see the Babboons!
I keep the site in a second window also so I can check it out while I'm online.
-
whats interesting is to see how the water hole increases and decreases in size over the course of the seasons - sometimes there is no water at all - others its plentiful and so there are lots more animals...
-
At least I think they're birdies :-\ .... I wanna see an elephant!!! >:(
Susie :)
hee!!
-
LIONS I want to see lions!
Me too! And Elephants.
Good pictures Susiebell! I saw a similar bird last evening. He/She stayed for quite a while and it was neat to see the birds reflection in the pool. I also saw a very small animal. Not sure what it was. It was only there for one frame. The little critter must have drank fast and left.
Cameras have been down off and on still.
-
Yes, I think those are an African deer type animal. (I don't know the official names :) )
Good spot! I may have missed them.
I wonder if they are very cautious due to the fact that big cats also come to the watering hole so they must be very careful.
-
;D ;D ;D
(http://i60.photobucket.com/albums/h2/etexjess/orpenCA3GY9JK.jpg)
One frame they were there drinking; in the next several were standing up straight all looking in one direction; the next one they were OUTTA THERE...
wonder what spooked them??
-
BIG DEER!!

good find jess susie and mini susie!!!
-
Jess, that's a great shot of the whole watering hole and herd.
Susiebell, great shot. It looks like dusk. I love the colors.
Before I go to bed I'll post my sightings from this evening.
Birds. I wonder what they are called. And more of the dear little deer animals. They were around for quite awhile. Getting their morning drink. I'm so glad water is provided for them.

but I DID see the spirally deer!!
you got a better pic than me, Wishes!!
-
when I first started looking at these waterholes I wanted to see lions...(ok still do...do they NEVER get thirsty???!!) but now I just worry to death about some of these deer...when they come up in groups it is fun but earlier this morning a LONE deer came up..and ya'll KNOW it is ALWAYS the lone deer that gets eaten!! It had its head tilted looking at that clump of bushes and I was just thinking "DON"T GO IN THERE!"
It is like watching one of them slasher films...
-
Eeeeeek! :o
My son was watching the deer yesterday evening and said "Wouldn't it be cool if a lion jumped out of that bush right now?" then proceeded to act it out for me! Sweet boy! ::)
Susie :)
oh no!! that is a boy for you, isn't it?
and he is too young to think about the poor deer.... ;)
(I bet it was too cute! I miss have a little one!)

Susiebell, That is the first time I have seen the Satara webcame at a wider angle. Great pics! It's been real slow for me there.
Jess, I too worry about the animals. It's good to know I am not the only one. I would freak out if I saw an attack. Usually the deer come in groups. I wonder if others were close by.
There was a lot of activity last evening (morning for them) at the Orpen (round) webcam. Birds, lots of deer and about 6 Zebras but they were on the far side of the water hole so the pictures were not too good.
Here are two pics from I think Friday. Deer kept coming and going for a long while and it looks like a bird is perched on this one deer.
-
Those are wonderful Susiebell. I wonder what the bird is. It almost looks like it could be a buzzard but then perhaps not. Very long legs.
-
I did a little searching around the Kruger park site. I think the little deer may be Impala. Also saw pictures of birds and the "Maraboe Stork" looked like some of the birds spotted at the watering hole. There were also pics of Vultures, Heron and different Storks which are quite large birds. But heck if I can tell specific birds apart.
It's just good to see then
-
More good pictures Susiebell. Water buffalo?
It's been busy at the Orpen watering hole but nothing for me at the Satara watering hole.
I got these last night. There was so much activity I finally had to shut down the computer or I would never have stopped looking! :)

-
Wow Wishes!!! GREAT photos!!
I think I have got you guys addicted
-
Absolutely!! I was 5 minutes late picking my daughter up from school because I was waiting for that dumb buffalo to stand up ... and then he just flippin walked off!!!
Susie :)
Heh! Sorry Mini Susie!!!
-
You have Kelda. I love seeing the animals. Knowing they are there at the time we see them.
Thanks Susie. We are doing pretty well I think.
Here are my best two from last night. Busy again.
I like this one because there is a Zebra, a Deer and a Bird. Oh wait. 2 Deer.

OMG Shasta, I didn't even think of that!! I'm not sure if this area is Meerkat country. I have seen several of these small critters around the pond in the last hour or so.
I just caught these two beauties at the Satara Watering Hole. Had to share.

Me too! :) It's one of the amazing thing about the webcams. To see the animals within 30 seconds of what they are doing. And in their natural wild environment.
Thanks to Kelda for introducing the webcams.

Dot, those are lovely! How did you get the close up? I notice the cameras do move. Did the camera just happen to be in that spot?
I love those dear little deer. Or whatever they are officially called. :)
-
little deer works for me!
Hi Wishes!
been a while since I seen you around....the army didn't get you??
there is a note on the website about the closeups....they said some people LIKE the closeups and some people want to see the whole waterhole. Since they can't afford to have someone monitoring the cameras all the time, they just take it in turns...sometimes they leave it zoomed in and sometimes they leave it showing the whole waterhole.
and I ain't seen a thing since that big ol thing the other day!
>:( >:( >:(

Hi back Jess! :)
Thanks for the explanation on the webcam. I'm having a total dry spell too.

Oh Mouk that's wonderful! Wish Heather and I had caught that too :D

I envy your of yesterday ;D but I saw the buffaloes as well. Perhaps we should alert each other of 'events at the water hole'?

Aren't the reflections wonderful in this one.
Love the nighttime elephant shots Mouk. Oh I wish we could get paid just to watch the web cams all day. Imagine what we are missing! :o LOL, my daughter will sit and watch for 30 minutes at a time waiting for something to show up and then it's "Hurry Mommy Hurry!"

So pretty and peaceful... you can just imagine the birds singing and the rustling in the grass
By the way... can I borrow your daughter? ;D

These are fabulous!! And you saw a leopard, this is a rare sight!!! I was watching around that time, but missed him.
We had an earthquake during the night and I couldn't sleep, spent two hours wildlife watching and all I saw was a buffalo and a hyena... >:(
What is the small creature looking like a desert fox under that of the leopard?
