Title: BBM one of only 2 landmark films since 2000!
Post by: jura86 on October 05, 2006, 07:42:22 pm
Just thought Tremblayans might be interested to note that the Radio Times here in the UK has published their own list of The One Hundred Landmark Films - and only two films released since 2000 made the cut - Shrek and Brokeback Mountain! Maybe I'm getting a bit over excited here, I know there are a million and one of these types of lists, although this one is getting quite a lot of media attention... mainly because they named Deep Throat as one of the landmark films. Does seem to vindicate all that talk a while back about how BBM would outlast all the other oscar contenders as a landmark film though which is great! ;D -- I got this news story from the BBC website, hope it hasn't been posted about already, if it has sorry!

Whenever I feel I need "award validation" regarding BBM I just go to the regular Brokeback info and stats page on imdb and scroll down to the awards tally.  It's truly awe inspiring to see how many awards and nominations this movie has received.

 :D

Update:  Whoa, did you see the name of the second award after the Acadeny Award?  No wonder you like 'em!  :)

Brokeback Mountain remains the single most important film I have yet experienced. But I can think of at least four other films released since 2000 that deserve to be considered landmark films: A.I.: Artificial Intelligence, Bully, Gerry, and Yes.

Not surprised the UK recognized it.  They gave Jake a Bafta for it, after all.

I was thinking this too. I mean, I love Shrek, I think its a fantastic film, but surely Toy Story was *the* landmark CGI animation film, and Shrek didn't make that much of an impact on the film industry when it was released. Personally, I would definitely have chosen "The Passion of the Christ" as a landmark film since 2000 - not everyone liked it, and I certainly wouldn't watch it again, but no one can deny what a huge movie phenomenon it was.
