Okay, earlier we were having some trouble with the name thing. People were calling me "David" -- which is my name -- and DavidinHartford (who cleverly made his s/n his name) was talking about how confused he was. I also know we have two Mandys and two Nicoles... and I'm sure there are more.
I want to say this right now... I'm not calling anybody by their username if I know their real name. Sorry. So, in order to make this work. We're going to have to do this like we all did this in elementary school. You know, back when you were still only known by your first name... if your class had two Chelseas, you referred to them as Chelsea R. and Chelsea W. -- whatever their last name began with, you attributed the letter.
Now, in order to make this work... we're going to need people who share a name with others to confess the first initial of their last name. Of course, I really don't care... I mean, if you want to make up a letter just to keep privacy to yourself, then that's fine -- just so we can have something to distinguish between different people.
I know we have two Nicoles... a Nicole R.(I believe I know her last name, but won't say it) and a Nicole T. (for Tremblay). This way we can be as personal as we've always been without being confusing. My last name begins with an S. -- which should be easy to remember because "S" for "StudDuck" ... but another idea that I have could be this...
You see, there is another David in our family... I have an uncle named David and so on holidays when he visits, we are distinguished by our middle names. For instance, I am referred to as "David Thomas" instead of just "David" ... it easily specifies which David is being spoken of.
So... if you want to call me "David Thomas" or "David S." ... go for it. I think everyone needs to collectively decide on which one they want to call me -- personally, I like the "David Thomas" ... it's very melodic. I just really like the personal vibe that we've all brought to this wonderful place, and it would be such a shame to see that go away.
That is all. If you share a name with someone... then perhaps you can had an initial or middle name to which we can specify you as. Or if you really are comfortable with being called your username, that's fine too... I just really like the personal vibe we keep here. It's a shame we all can't have names like Sheyne. There's a girl that won't be confused with anyone else here. (both namewise and personality-wise -- we love you Sheyne!)
That is all,
David Thomas and/or David S. (whichever is to be determined)
-
You've got it David Thomas it is. And while I have your attention I sent you an e-mail early this morning about your manuscript! Hope you don't mind my observations
-
May I call you Tom? As in Huck Finn, you remind me so much of him.
-
May I call you Tom? As in Huck Finn, you remind me so much of him.
I don't think so. Hahaha.
-
I'm for the David Thomas, though the 'S.' may make it easier for us to remember the 'StudDuck' in you..
You decide!

Hunh!
-
So, um, David Thomas, we can't call you Studly anymore?
There are some people I like to call by their user name for some reason, like Elle and Spooky. I don't know why. I really don't like being called cmr, and especially not cmr107. It's so impersonal, yet I still call some other people by their user name. (I'm Courtney, for those of you who didn't know.) What do people want to be called?
-
I like being called Flash. It inspires me to be a better person, and make something good of my life.
But you can call me what you want.

David Thomas works for me, but I also reserve the right to call you David Duck, David Darling, Ducky, Studly, the Studster, my Ducky-wucky-woo, etc. Excuse me, I think I just made myself nauseous. Pass the sick bag.
I think the point I'm making here, (and yeah, I do have one, so shut up) is that we need to have modifiers if we're using real names. As long as someone is writing David (H) or David (S), or some other niftily-constructed epithet, we'll all know who we're talking about.
How does that sound? Use whatever you want, just be specific.

Hello David Thomas! I like that sound of that... I've always liked people with two names ;)
As for me, I think the other Mandy and I decided that you can call me Mandy I and her Mandy B
I also ocasionally go by Mandster...
Hope that helps the confusion if there was any!

For the first time in a while, I've found a place where I'm the only Sarah (any Sarahs speak up!). My roommate in college for two years was Sara and I was one of four Sara(h)s in a high school class of 56. Thanks mom. College friends called me by my last name a lot. My last name has always been a mild embarrassment but I've learned to embrace it. I guess. It begins with a B. And I didn't change it to my husband's because his begins with a K -- ew!
But I feel like Henrypie around here.
And I have a middle name I like but it's Ellemeno's special privilege to know it. Wait no it's not. It's in my bloody email address. Oh okay, it's Jane.
Sarah Jane Jewie-Jew.
-
Well, of course people can still call me affectionate variations of my username -- i.e. Studly -- but people still call me David, and I don't want to just yank that option away from people because I like that option.
You know what would be a lot of fun? If we do that thing where we refer to people with the same name by identifying the place that they come from. You know... everyone that is from Boston always attaches "Boston" before their first name -- if you've seen that movie Blow with Johnny Depp, or Survivor Season 8, you should know what I'm talking about.
So we could have Hartford David and Indiana David... hehe -- I think that's mainly because I love how there is an Indiana Jones, hahaha... but I do like the middle name addition, as I am used to that method when sharing my name. Like I said, that's what I'm called when my uncle is over.
So, what is Hartford David's middle name? Because if he thinks for one second that he's getting away with being the David that is simply called "David" then he is out of his mind. You have to do the middle name thing just like me, buddy!
-
I love Sarah Jane! What a great name, also very melodic...
-
Hi, it's me Lynn (no e), in case there's any confusion with Lynne (Hi, Lynne!) who's the moderator at Movie Resources.
I'm fine with being called either Lynn, or fernly, or fern - I'll answer to any a them.
-
OK, It's settled then. You can call me "Indiana" ROTFLOL >:D
-
OK, It's settled then. You can call me "Indiana" ROTFLOL >:D
Oh, you think you're soooooooooo clever. *mumbles obscenities*
-
Hell I was only thinking out loud.... (walks away waving dishes in hands) ;)
-
Yeah, you're a real thinker, alright.
-
AHAHAHAHAHA! Davids, you are cracking me up!
I am Nicole R and it's okay David Thomas Indiana S. - my last name was in my handle at IMDb, so I don't care if it's known - I trust all of y'all. It's Ross - boring and yuck. I always say that the only reason that I will take my future husbands last name is if it's better than mine b/c I hate mine. Whoever's is nicer wins. I'll put Nicole R. under my avatar so it'll be a permanent reminder.
-
Like MandyI said, you can call me Mandy B.
..or Newfie Mandy, or Newfoundland Mandy, or Newfound Mandy, or Canadian Mandy, or Mandy the Goddess, or Mandy the Shithead... I don't care what anyone calls me, lol!
-
Oh, man, I am totally going to call you Mandy the Shithead from now on. :)
-
You think I don't see your new little nametag over there under your photo, Hartford David? Oh, I see it. I see it.
-
"Tell you what. And I'll say it just once. Yeah, I changed my tag under my pic. You don't know how hard it gets. I can't make it on one or two Davids a year. I'm not like you, you horsin son of a studduck" I wish I knew how to quit this thread" >:D
-
LOL! I'm in my Professor's office, by myself, cracking up - people are going to start talking soon....
-

Well, why don't you? Why don't you just go over to the BBM games thread? It's 'cause of you Hartford David that I'm like this. I'm "Studly," I'm "David Thomas" -- GET THE MUCK OFF ME!!!
*pathetic sobbing*
-
You Davids sure found a way to pass the time up here....
-
Paul... get the hell out of my trailer.
-
I must confess, as an impartial observer of this little lover's quarrel, it is mighty funny. I'm on my laptop at the library, and I've just received a number of extremely dirty looks when I shattered the hushed silence with my laughing. Boys, I'm blaming you.
-
So David,
Your friend can't come in for a cup of coffee?
-
So David,
Your friend can't come in for a cup of coffee?
Paul, you're going to have to specify which David. Have you learned nothing from this thread?
-
You and him,
You didn't go up there to fish!!!! You were.....
-
What, are all you people getting paid to stem the rose??? Get back to work.
Oops, here comes my boss.
Juan
-
What the hell is going on here? Lol..
-
I think people are inspired by the "elementary school" part of the subject...

Juan you look like Mark Ruffalo in that pic

Sarah Jane Jewie-Jew.
I don't think I'm going to be calling you Jewie-Jew anytime soon. Other than right then. But that's it.
-

I just figured this out, even though now I realize it's been obvious for a while - MuncieDavid, you like RULES. Or at least making them. Now I understand that, I will just sit back and breathe. Best wishes on your world-shaping endeavors.
Ellemeno (I like my username. I chose my username. I like when people use my username. Look how I glorified it down below.)
-
Juan you look like Mark Ruffalo in that pic
Well since I think he's way hot, thank you Brandon. What happened to you pic man?
Juan
-
Yeah he is, what pic are you talkin about?
-
The tasteful nude one.
-
LOLOL!! You're on a ROLL today David in Indiana, Wallawalla, etc...
Juan's talkin' about YOUR pic Brandon. You had yourself up yesterday.
-
The tasteful nude one.
OMG..not that again ROFL :D

You're sooooo good at understanding people - ver' nice, ver' nice.

David Thomas works for me, but I also reserve the right to call you David Duck, David Darling, Ducky, Studly, the Studster, my Ducky-wucky-woo, etc.
Isn't he also The SoupNazi? Hence, Mein Fuhrer, Herr Obersuppenfuhrer, Soupster, JC Souperstud, etc.
-
Dave Thomas? Oh great! Now I want to go to Wendys for a Big Bacon Classic combo. LOL ;D
-
LOL....yeah a bacon double cheeseburger sounds good right now!
-
Hmm, Maybe I'll have to make a Wendys run just before the Amazing Race comes on! LOL.
No Wendys near Stafford is there?
-
sadly....no.
:'(
-
Yeah he is, what pic are you talkin about?
Your sig pic. That was you right? Much better. ;D
Juan
-
Ohhh yeah that was me, thank you.
-
But I feel like Henrypie around here.
And...sweetiepie and cutiepie and Sarahpie too
-
MMMMM - yeah. Are we still thinking about what to call each other? 'Cause you can call me Celeste or yaadpyar. I don't think anyone will confuse either name with David in Indiana or David in Hartford, or anyone else either.
But I think I will have to change my avatar soon. I just love the little group hug Ray created with the cowboy hats, but anyone who knows me well knows I DON'T do group hugs ever, under any circumstance - NOT EVER!
And the other one I had that I loved, is a BBM lego scene, but it's too small to see well, so the hilarity of it is lost. Perhaps this is my evening's chore - to find the perfect new avatar. I'm accepting all suggestions if anyone has one. Maybe the red stapler from Office Space...
-
I DON'T do group hugs ever, under any circumstance - NOT EVER!
Hey, me neither, Yaadpie. For two community-lovin types, that's different, I think.
Perhaps this is my evening's chore - to find the perfect new avatar.
Find me my perfect one while you're at it, woudja? How do others pick so easily? You should have seen me wrack my brain til the username "Ellemeno" occurred to me.
-
Juan you look like Mark Ruffalo in that pic
I thought the same thing about Juan's pic, Brandon.
-
Yeah it's uncanny
-
Wow, you're quick, Brandon. I posted that like 2 secs ago! :)
-
yes I am..and ain't
-
Wow...if my other pic looks that much like Mark Ruffalo maybe I shouldn't change it. OK, not to be cheesy, but Brandon your pic is very Jason Mraz. Which is a very good thing.
Juan
-
You still do look like Mark, not quite as much but I can still see the resemblance
