Hi Everybody. I don't know if hobbies has been discussed before but seeing I have a few of them I thought i would start my own hobbie thread. Please feel free to talk about your hobbies, or other peoples hobbies, post pictures about them, or just post your favorite pictures here.
about 5 years ago my youngest wanted a fish tank for Christmas. So santa brought her a little ten gallon tank with a gift certificate to a fish store to pick out what she wanted tp put into it. Well we had a blast learning about the different fish and decorating and filling her tank. i wish i had a picture of it now, but it really did end up to be quite a showpiece.
well that got me going on aquariums. since then I have had about 5 of them. i have graduated in size over the years and have gotten into alot more advanced systems.
This one I'm showing is a 60 gallon salt water self mantained( feeds itsself) system in my living room. I have had fish die off which is always hard. but i keep adding new. And learning more everyday.

that stripped one was a 500.00 fish. he jumped out of my fishtank the first week. i found him dead on the floor! :o

There's Bullseye! he's one of my favorites. he's a real loner.

looking at their reflection off the glass.

Jeez, most people get their kids a glass bowl and some goldfish.
A SALT water tank?!?! Boy, you and the girls love fish. ;)
-
Geri -
Those aquariums are beautiful! The fish are too!
Are those clown fish? The orange ones? They are very cute.
I love fish. They are wonderful animals and they are quite decorative too. I have two goldfish... Jesse and Taco. They will even let me pet them. If I put my hand in the tank they will swim up to it and I will gently pet them. Will any of your fish let you pet them?
Thanks for posting all those great pictures Geri! :)

We do love them. But we started out with tropical fish. they were not as hard to maintain as the saltwater and alot cheaper to replace. The reason I love the saltwater is because of the better varity of fish out there. But I would never tell anyone to start out with saltwater fish. Better to get a feel of taking care of them at the beginning with tropical or goldfish
-
David,
Yes they are clown fish. They are very cute. my daughter named them millie and willie.
They are very animated in their ways. i can watch them for hours. and they look like when they are looking directly at you like they have white head bands on their heads.
When I had a tropical tank I had a couple of kissing fish. One died and the other out lived her by 3 years. Anyways he (BOB) I could almost pet. He got huge and used to follow me around the room where ever I went. He would get very excited when He would see me go for the fish food can. he passed away a little while ago. It was sad but we had a funeral for him and buried him outside in a little box. LOL No toilets for my fish! (except for one real mean one)

:'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'( :'(
That is so sad. And I don't blame you. I wouldn't flush them down the toilet either! Fish are pets and they become members of the family.
I don't know what I will do when Jesse and Taco die. They are only goldfish, although fairly expensive goldfish. They are getting pretty big too. And like your fish, they get very excited when they see me. And talk about spoiled... they are swimming around in a $500.00 aquarium! But they have plenty of room and they have toys too. They also have little caves and tunnels to swim through. But I have become very attached to them. I'll put my hand down in their tank two or three times a day, and within a minute or two they will swim up to me and gently pet them. I have some very strange animals, don't I? ???
-
I have seen some goldfish with the most human characteristics to them, even their faces have expression. I love goldfish myself. they can live quite long. and it sounds like you have given them a wonderful world to live in. 500 tank for just two fish. no wonder they are so happy! and your right they do become big members of the family. And it is a big lost if you lose one.
Have you got a picture of them?? this would be the place to post them LOL
Ps I was getting jealous of your blog how good it was doing and just had to start one too! .

I'll get a picture of them posted for you Geri. I gotta show off my babies!
About the aquarium. I was thinking of starting an aquarium hobby several years ago, but I never got around to buying the fish. I only bought the tank and the decorations. Isn't that stupid of me? When I bought Jesse, I figured I would go ahead and put him in the aquarium. I didn't want him swimming around in a little bowl. When my ex bought Taco, we put him in there too! Now they have lots and lots of room to move around in. :D
Yeah. They're spoiled all right!
-
Alot of people do that. Buy the stuff and wait to purchase the fish. It's actually a good thing to do instead of jumping into buying alot of fish cause your excited. Just to find out too late that something was wrong with tank, or they are not compatible, and kill each other!
I found a picture of my old buddy Bob who died. RIP. Doesn't he look like he was a sweetheart? Just look at that face!

He was a cutie! I'm sorry he died. He had a very cute face :)
Fish are cute animals. At least I think so! :D
-
He was getting old in that shot. And I think he might of been sick too. He was never the same after his mate died. :'( :'(
-
Well, I sure am sorry to hear about it.
At least you have a nice picture so you can remember him.
Thanks for sharing it with us! :)
-
And thank you David for coming over! i sure do appreciate the business !lol
Take some cute pictures of Jesse and Taco for us! :)

Geri the aquarium is looking great. I have a saltwater aquarium but it is not as nice as yours. You must spend a lot of time looking after it.... The clownfish are sooo adorable aren't they??????
-
Yes Tullio they certainly are. I'm thinking of getting another pair of them soon. And maybe a Lion fish. But those lion fish are beautiful . They are quite expensive too.
-
Yes the lionfish are very cool but aren't they pisonous or something???
-
As you can see by my pic I am into old cars. I have a 1951 DeSoto Suburban, 1951 Frazer and a 1964 Jeep Wagoneer.

Oh yes Mark you do have a great hobbie. this is a good place for you to show off some of your cars! : 8) I love the old cars! Those cars seem to be in great condition. Do you enter them in old car shows?
-

Yes Tullio they are but it shouldn't bother the other fish. I dont plan on trying to pet it anyways. They are not deadly if you get stung as far as I know. Might make your hand puff up a little! But I have had that happen before.
-

I have been to 'cruse nights' and take them on car club tours. Both cars shown in the photos are completley original never restored.
-
I used to d-jay cruise night at a resort next to where i live. played all the oldies, Beach boys,Dion and the bellmonts,Frankie Avalon etc. it was alot of fun on a hot summer night. Some of the cars were beautiful. I really enjoyed the Muscle group . I like the originals classic's too.
!
Your cars are really neat.

Another part of my hobby is collecting car sales brochures. My dad took me to the dealers when I was young and a still get them today. Nearly 30 years ago I started going to automotive swap meets finding the brochures from prior to that era, at the time I had no idea anyone else would save! them. Below are a few examples.
1940 Packard Custom 180
1952 Plymouth
1967 Ferrari 365 2+2
1958 Humber (British)
-
Mark, you just love cars! The Humbar Hawk, was that a limo in it's time? I see it's British and if I'm seeing that brochure right It looks like it says Limousine under it.
Years ago when I was 8-11years old my dad had a Studebaker. I don't know why, maybe he needed a second car as my mother worked. It was red and very old looking. I just remember how embarrassed I used to be when he would drop me off to school or pick me up .I would wait till no one was looking and jump in the car.duck down all the way home. he used to laugh at me but at that age it was horribly embarrassing for me .He just loved that car! And this guy and car reminds me of him coming to get me.!

These are from a trip I was on early last spring. We stopped at Niagara Falls on the way home. I took these pictures Your seeing smaller size ,anyways I submitted them to News Center3 at CBS for their evening news show. They appeared on the weather segamant about Spring Thaw. Even though next to the falls it sure didnt look like anything was thawing.

Another example of never knowing what will be in a thread til I read it! Thanks for all the fish! :)

I eventually can post on tho this!!!
Yeehawww!!!!
Loving the pics Geri. Specially like the clown fish and Bullseye.
My hobby is that I play a cornet in a Brass band. Think Brassed Off in Scotland rather than Salvation Army or USA Marching Band style.
This year I went for the first time to a thing called Whit Friday. A load of people from bands across Scotland made one 'Scottish Band' and went down for the weekend to play at this. Great fun, and plenty of booze. Def going back next year!
From the whit friday website......
Often described as 'the greatest free show on Earth', the Saddleworth & District Whit Friday Brass Band Contests take place every year on the afternoon and evening of Whit Friday - 1st June in 2007.
From the earliest recorded contest in 1884, the event has grown in popularity. Last year well over a hundred brass bands participated in some twenty different contests at venues scattered around the moorland villages and towns on the western edge of the Pennines. All of the contests are open-air, many in delightful surroundings. The area has a very strong tradition of brass band music. In the weeks before Whit Friday, the sounds of rehearsals echo across the hillsides from the various band rooms and village halls. There are thriving bands in some of the tiniest villages. And the best bands are world class.
This year's prize fund is £28,700.
The contests are open to all-comers. So the local youth bands get to match their skills against the top bands of the country. For bandsmen, the dash from contest to contest makes for an exhilarating (though exhausting) evening. See the comments in the guest book. This is a major event in the brass band calendar and bands travel the length of the country to participate, some even turning up from overseas.
It is possible to look in at several contests during the evening. But with over 100 bus-loads of bandsmen about, with many of the roads closed to traffic and the inevitable parking problems, it pays not to be over-ambitious.
and some pf my pciture which give you a flavour of the day!

Another example of never knowing what will be in a thread til I read it! Thanks for all the fish! :)
Thanks for visiting Clarissa!
yes I started off with fish, but I do hope this thread will be a place where people tell us about all sorts of interesting things that they like to do. Even the smallest hobbie can be really interesting. and could even give someone else an idea if they are looking to start a hobbie.
I figure with so many people from all over the world in this small but growing town, there has to be some really interesting pass times out there. 8)
-
kelda,
that sounds (and looks) like such a blast! Did you take the cornet all through school?
Those Scottish really know how to party anyways!
My 15 year old daughter has taken the violin through school. This will be her eighth year. She has represented our school orchestra in alot of local, county and state competitions. She has wanted to quit it alot of times ( too much work she says), but that is one area that i have insisted on. I feel that it is a gift to know how to read and play music. I tell her everyday that i always hear adults say they wish they had learned to play an instrument when they were a kid. That it will be something that she will always have.
I always liked the cornet. We bought my older daughter a beautiful cornet when she was in the middleschool (5th-8th grade) She didn't take to it. she said it was too hard. But now she plays the keyboard and some guitar, writes songs and sings in her own band. And when my younger one is ready she is going to have her join. It will be kinda of a Dixie chick thing! 8)

Here are some fall pictures I took in my home town yesterday.
This is the town hall. Voting, tickets, family court, town meetings etc.

This is the center of our town. Every thursday during the summer they put on outdoor concerts from there. Santa also sits there at Christmas and greats the children.

Kelda and Geri -
Those pictures are wonderful!
Kelda: Scotland looks like a beautiful country. I have been to England but not Scotland. It looks like everyone was having a wonderful time during Whit Friday! :D
Geri: your little town looks beautiful. It looks very "Northeast" and "New England". I love the colors. You did an excellent job taking those pictures. I really like the picture of your town hall and of your tree.
-
Hey guys..
Yes.. I started cornet through my school in Primary 6 - so I was 9 years old - my class got a test to see our musical ability - is that sound higher or lower, louder or quiter that sort of thing.. and I was one of the class that scored the highest so I got the chance to begin playing.. 16 years later I'm still doing it. Its great fun and I have so many very good friends through it. The social side for me has always been an important part of it. I'm actually off to Prestatyn in wales this weekend with the same bunch of people - there is a band competition that takes place in Pontins every year.. (Pontins is a chain of holidays camps in the Uk - think Kellermans (Dirty Dancing) for this time period!) I'm not playing but going for the social element!!
Looking forward to seeing your pics Geri.. but I'm on the net at work so only see the red crosses at the moment!
David - the pictures are actually in England. The kilts & flags were just to ensure that everyone knew we were the Scottish represenatives!!! Saddleworth district is a country area not too far from manchester... lovely part of the country... but Scotland is generally better for scenery!! Although of course I'm biased. I did the West Highland Way back in July... (98 miles walk from Glasgow - Fortwilliam - taking you along Loch Lomond and through some of the most beautiful areas of Scotland ) have a look at my pictures from that.

If anyone is then interested to visit Scotland - remember I have a spare room and it is always available at mine....!! I'd love to see you!

Gerri, just looked at your pics of from your lovely town....heres a rotunda similar to yours, which is in the town gardens in our town....my son was married there last saturday

The second weekend of October I D-Jayed a wedding at a place called The StoneBarn Castle It's always been known to be haunted. There is no electricity there, but we have a power pack for such occaissions and it was the perfect place for a Halloween themed wedding.
If I didn't believe the stories before ( about the ghosts that haunt it) i sure do now.
This is a picture i took of it when i first arrived.

THE STORY STARTS ABOVE!
There was no indoor plumbing so if you had to use a bathroom you had to get a flashlight ??? and walk out side for about 50 feet to some outside bathrooms!!! i was scared to death. Because there was nothing outside only darkness! When i walked out the only thing you could see was the candle lights coming out of the reception hall door. There was no lights anywhere else in or on the building. but when i took these pictures after viewing them I can see alot of activity with the points of lights.I took about twenty shots outside because it lit up my surroundings. In each picture I took the lights were located somewhere else!
I enlarged some of the lights. This is the one shooting off the house and into the sky!
This is one of the lights that seems to be in the window. But really wasnt there.

There were other things like very cold spots. I kept feeling a breeze behind me and something touching me. my partner felt it too. We had our backs up against a wall. but the cold breeze was blowing at our backs. It was really scarey. After midnight everyone up there was pretty scared. I was glad to get home!i
-
Those pictures are really creepy looking Geri. Cameras sometimes photograph spirits and orbs. I have some pictures where orbs can be seen in them. Sometimes these orbs are due to the light from the camera's flash reflecting off of dust particles, but somehow I don't think this is the case in your picture. Those orbs actually have light IN them. I really do think you may have actually photographed some REAL orbs Geri!
The light coming from inside the window of the house almost looks a like an eye... and evil eye.
Congratulations on the terrific pictures! You should show them to a parapsychologist and see what he or she says about the pictures. They sure do look convincing to me, and that house is very spooky looking too!
-
Some of the pictures I took were without the flash because I wanted to get the illumination that the candles were giving off in the reception room. Those pctures also have lights all over it. The funny thing is is every picture (and i took about twenty walking back and forth to the bathroom) the lights were in different places in all of them Like the orbs were playing around outside. Maybe it was my loud music that got them going crazy. They probaly would of been inside if it wasn't so loud!!
Thanks David!!

May I tell you about a few of our haunted houses?
The Hannah House - Indianapolis, Indiana
The Hannah House is located on the southside of Indianapolis not too far from my house. Built in 1858, the house was owned by staunch abolitionists and the house was used as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Unfortunately, nearly half the residents of Indianapolis sympathized with the South, and escaped slaves were not at all safe until they were well north of Indianapolis. The slaves would be brought into the house and taken to a secret tunnel, just off the basement where they would remain for days, or even weeks, until it was safe to move them to the next stop.
One night while dozens of slaves were packed into the tunnel, a lantern was overturned, burning everyone alive. :'(
Today, many people report the smell of rotting flesh throughout the house. One minute they will smell it and suddenly it will disappear. People have also reported hearing screams coming from the tunnels and the basement as well as the sound of glass breaking in remote areas of the house. People wearing period clothing have also been seen walking up and down the stairs and in the corridors. Suddenly they will disappear.
I have been to the Hannah House, and I while I never saw, heard or smelled anything unusual, I did notice a very oppresive atmosphere while I was in the house. Of course this could have been my imagination since I was well aware of the history of the house.

The Willard Library - Evansville, Indiana
The Willard Library is located in Evansville, Indiana. Built in the late 1800's, the library is typically Victorian. This library is supposedly haunted by the Grey Lady. Hundreds of people have reported seeing her. The investigators from the Sci-Fi Channel's Ghost Hunters even made a trip to Willard Library. Parapsychologists from the Discovery Channel have also been there. You can even watch for the Grey Lady on the Ghost Cams located in the library...
http://www.libraryghost.com/ (http://www.libraryghost.com/)
I have been in the Willard Library many times. I visited it frequently while I was living in Evansville. Here is a picture of the library. I think the picture speaks for itself.

And then of course there is the House of Blue Lights. I actually went into this house with friends when I was a teenager. It was really spooky. Many stories surrounded the house, and I must admit I did experience a few taps on my shoulder and a few ghostly whispers. The house is torn down now.

Rather than taking up any more room on Geri's trhead, if you would like to read about it, I posted some info about it in my thread...

Thanks David! What great pictures. I love haunted houses . Well I love to read about other peoples experiences with them! :o
-
I just wanted to point out something with this picture. if you notice the light is half in the window and half out. It's either going in or it is coming out. You can tell as the head part of it is outside the window sill. Then the neck of it has a sill over it . Even picking up dust or a reflection in a flash couldn't cause that effect.

Geri, I have been looking and looking at this picture I couldn't figure out what I saw. At first I thought it might have been a picture of an angel or "spirit bird" but I wasn't satisfied with that conclusion. I think I just figured it out. I have outlined it for you...
It looks like a face of a twisted and tormented soul to me. What do you think?
Also, did you take this picture with a Sony camera? I get the impression you did. :)

mmmm..looks more like a dolphin ;)

Gee David that is kinda creepy isn't it? Good idea.
I talked to the couple that rented the place for their daughters wedding and they tell me that they have seen orbs in their house since the wedding. Especially the newly weds apartment! Could they have followed them home? They also have some pictures of some very strange things in the backgrounds of alot of their photos I.emailed them alot of my pictures and they said that they have pictures from outside and there are lights in completly different spots. They said they have one that has about 30 lights at once!! All over the lawn and up in the tress. And alot of activity on the roof. spooky!
ANd yes David it's a Sony Cybershot digital SLR It can take up to ten megapixels! Good eye!
We should have a have a Brokie weekend there! You could lead us in a Ghost hunt!
Thanks!!
Ps hero it does look like a dolphin too! or a duck. :)

Another thing I do for a hobbie (and I call it a hobbie because I don't charge for it)
is this.
I like to design posters, flyers and cd covers for local struugling musicians. I have done a few of them I have even had a few photos of musicians accepted to national magazines for articles on up and coming local musicians.
these are pictures I am working on right now for a very good friend of mine for his next cd release. He's a mega talented guitar play, harmonica, singer, songwriter, and artist. As a matter of fact the backdrop in the back was painted by him. Look through these if you like and let me know which one you think we should pick. Just remember these are still a work in progress, shadows, colori balance, things like that still need to be done. The name of the cd is "Once upon a Time...'

Geri, I like this picture the best....

That musician is really cute too! :)
By the way, I love the new pic of you! Or do they call them "avitars"? Anyway, it's a great picture! :D
-
Thanks David!!
I like that choice too. I think we will use some of the other pics inside the jacket or on the back cover too. Yes Jamie is really cute and what a intelligent nice guy to boot. I just had a couple drinks with him. he was talking about how the Egyptians built the pyramids. my cue to get home.
hope your having a good time. hope the family emergency is working out!!
Oh I changed the picture of me cause I felt like i was weraing the same clothes for six months!!

Geri... my aunt passed away suddenly. The visitation is tomorrow and the funeral is Sunday. :'(
Alex came with me, and we are trying to have as much fun as possible, given the situation. He has never been to New Orleans before. I am very familiar with the city (I've been here many times) so there are all kinds of things I would like him to see. But our time is limited. He is a nice support system for me. He has been comforting me a lot and I'm glad he came down here with me.

Sorry to here that David. Best wishes.

Here is a picture of my Jeep. I figured out Photobucket.
-
thats a jeep wagoneer? It looks like an old one.
Photobucket is a real blessing if you like to post alot of pics. I use to do it the hard way untill Jess and Andrew took the time out to explain to me how to get and use photobucket!
-
Yes its the very first series Wagoneer, introduced in 1963 remaining in production until 1991 by then usually clad in leather, woodgrain trim, etc.
I was gettin pics from a couple of sites and it was a litter easer than Photoshop since I didn't have to resize. Striped Wall has more images.

This one is really good Geri. I love the way the animals are looking at Jamie (Isn't his name Jamie?). Actually I like the black and white version too, because in this picture he is wearing one of those 1920's style "Charlie Chaplin" hats (at least that's what it looks like to me) and the b&w picture makes it look like it was taken back in the old times. But I'm not sure if a b&w picture would work on a cd cover. I wonder if it would stand out enough. The colors are beautiful in the color version and helps give it a fantasy feeling.

Thanks David,
I agree with you about the B&w might not be an eye catcher. i like the B&W alot but i do think the colors add more to the whole fantasy thing. I have found that doing this kind of art work it takes a hundred ideas before you find the one that's perfect! At the beginning I would do a few and find one that was great and use it. Aftwards I would be still fooling around and would nail it on the head. but it would be too late as the cd would already be made. so I learned to have patiences.
Thanks for your imput David!!

Seems like your pretty good with the camera. I want to get into that too as a hobby. What I really like are storm shots, especially thuderstorms and outer space photos. Do you have any lightning shots?

Thanks Lucise!!
Hero I have tried to but the ones I have are not worth putting up. I do enjoy tking storms coming in. Heres a few pictures of some pre storm shots. These were taken in the car on the highway.

Both of those pictures are beautiful Geri... especially this one. :)
I love photographing storms and sunsets. But, I never seem to have my camera with me at the right time. They never last long... at least here they don't. If you blink you'll miss them.
You had hail? You didn't have tornadoes too, did you? Hail is often times the first sign a tornado is coming.
Great pictures Geri. Congratulations!

Since I figured out Photobucket here are a couple more pics of my favorite automotive brochures.

You had hail? You didn't have tornadoes too, did you? Hail is often times the first sign a tornado is coming. Question from David
David, that storm produced very high winds in our area Very scarey storm (.I wish I had been brave enough to get some more shots of it But it came on really fast). There were no actual witness's to actual tornado touchdowns but there was alot of lines down, poweroutages, and trees down. The picture with the sky clearing up was when we drove around looking at some damage. At that time we did not have any power in our area.
-
Mark, those old car brochures must be worth something in 2006! Don't imagine there's many of them still around!

Alrighty, back to hobbies. I have just added a new addition to my tank this week. Its a Regal Angelfish. A real sweetheart of a fish. She is about 4inches long . big fish. Right now she is just starting to feel at home because my Dory ( The blueHippo Tang below) is just starting to let her be. Dory does not like intruders. She is very territorial. And will bite new fish tails for awhile until that is known. Anyone thinking of starting a salt water tank ..beware these two fish alone cost around 150.00 a piece if you dont have friends in the business!
Meet...Wanda

Dory...

-
Does Wanda allow you to pet her, Geri?
My fish let me pet them. If I put my hand in the tank, they will swim up to me and allow me to pet them. My friend Eddie up in Michigan has a fish that actually lets Eddie take him out of the water! The fish will swim into his hand and he will lift the fish up out of the water for a second or two. The fish loves it. But he will only let Eddie do this; nobody else.
Your new fish is beautiful Geri! Congratulations! :D
-
David~
No they dont, but then again I really dont try to handle them much because of human germs or shock. Their just to dang expensive. However, They do come up to the side of aquarium and communicate in their own little ways though! What a cute story about Eddie!! I would love a little fish like that!
Thanks David!

Yes. Eddie is the ONLY person who is allowed to pick up the fish. The fish won't allow anyone else to do it. Eddie is very good with animals and they always seem to trust him. :)

Geri, do you have any idea why the flag is flying half mast over this building? Is that the Treasury Building? I'm horribly embarrassed I don't know for certain which building this is. It also looked like the flag may have been flying half mast in one of your pictures of the Capitol Building, but I'm not sure.
These pictures are wonderful Geri! Thanks for posting them.
I went to Washington D.C. when I was 13 or 14 years old. My History class took a trip there in 1976 for the Bicentennial. We were there for about 5 days during Spring Break.
-
David~
Yes that is the Treasury Building! I did'nt take as many pictures as I should of cause it was so dang hot that we happened onto a Gay airconditioned karaoke bar and stayed there all day long! That's another story!
We were there the week of September !! last year. that may be the reason for the flags at half mast, if not I really don't know why!
Thanks David
Geri

Wow nice pictures of Washington Geri! I've been there a couple times myself! Did you go to the Holocoust Museum? That would be something you would never forget!
-
I've been to Washington a few times, too -- most recently last July when the temp was about 105 every day. But it was very fun. Tullio, I went to the Holocaust museum, and you're right, it was unforgettable -- at least the first couple of floors. My kids and I got there a couple of hours before closing, thinking that would be plenty of time. No way. The museum is arranged chronologically, and we were looking at everything so carefully that were only up to about 1942 when the museum announced it was closing. We sprinted through the next few floors! But it was fascinating.
-
Hi Katherine,
It was pretty fasinating. And very disturbing. It took me awhile to shake it off.
Both times I was in Washington was May. It was incredibly hot then too!
But it's a Very impressive city. I would love to spend a couple weeks there in cooler times and just sightsee. I was at a weekend trade show both times and had little time to do much! Maybe next time!
-
Geri,
Washington is my favorite place to hang out! Next time you go there let me know I will show you some of the hottest clubs!! I know your game!!
Greg

And here's a hand, my trusty friend
And gie's a hand o' thine
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you too Geri!!
Did Ricky like the presents Santa Claus brought him?
Was Santa good to you this Christmas?
By the way, does anyone know what Auld Lang Syne means? I have always wondered about it.
Stay safe Geri and Happy New Year to you and all your family and friends. I wish everyone everywhere the very best in 2007 and beyond. :)
-
I thought it meant "old times gone by" is that it, Geri?
-
Gee David, Lee
I don't really get the song too much anyways but I believe it means "Times Passing" I just know it makes me depressed when I hear it every year. I would rather something more cheerful.
Yes David , Ricky likes his new toys. He got some balls and wind up mice. that he just loves to chase and attack. At first he was scared of them but after awhile he went over and stared batting them with his paws. Right now Ricky is being punished. He was a bad boy today. He jumped up and bite me to get me to go into the kitchen and get him a treat. that was bad enough but when I wouldnt he jumped up on the counter (he knows where is treats are kept) and knocked over a couple beautiful wine glasses. He knows better. So he's in the time out room right now. And he hates it in there.
I hope you all had a nice Christmas too.
David how's your dad feeling?
and by the way I posted my Christmas tree picture on Brokeback Holidays Christmas photos... inside.
David your new avatar..is that you?
-
Happy New Year Everyone
Auld Lang Syne means, literally: old long since..... but idiomatically it means "long ago" or "days gone by". Some Scots storytellers use it to mean "Once Upon A Time".
CHEERS....Glory from CA
-
Thanks Lil darlin! you are probably right! Still a depressing song no matter what it means!
-
Don't be depressed Geri! Remember I'm always just 2 hours away!
Yes I do agree that song is kinda depressing. But it can be uplifting too. Especially if you are with someone special when you hear it. ;)
-
Thanks Lil darlin! you are probably right! Still a depressing song no matter what it means!
Do you know - I've never ever thought about it being depressing... It's always a happy song when I hear it /sing it - its pretty traditional for it to be the last song at a wedding for example and we all link hands and it starts slow and we kinda bob our hands up and down and then it gets faster and we all jump about still with linked arms/hands and weave in and out... An end of party tune! Just to say bye everyone - see you again soon - thanks for coming!
-
Geri, great job on the performance thread! I was hysterical when I seen your last post. Look forward to getting together soon.
Tullio
-
Hey There Tullio!
I hope you had a great Christmas and a happy new year! :)
I didn't mean to butt in. I never see you online anymore. I hope everything is okay.
-
David thank you for asking. I hope you had a nice holiday as well. As for me I had a great holiday and the best present of all was getting to spend new Years eve with Geri. She is such a sweetie. I adore her. aside from that I have been very busy these past few weeks with traveling and business and once and awhile I have been known to simply fall off the face of the planet and seclude myself when I need to rejuvenate myself. No worries though, things are fine. I know Geri was worried about you too for awhile she really enjoys posting and chatting with you.
Glad to see you back on the boards I always enjoy your posts. What have you been up to lately?

I hope its its okay if I jump in here and tell you about my hobbies, they are real important to me.
Since I was about 5 I have been kniiting and crocheting like crazy, I have made lots and lots of sweaters.
Then about eight years ago I decided that there can be too many sweaters so I have been trying many many things, painting, drawing, quilting, jewelery making, bookbinding, etc,etc but none of these have really stuck and I am trying to find one that will.
I also have been teaching myself to weave and I even now spin and dye my own yarn which I started doing about three years ago.
I am trying to find one or two of these things to really focus on, which I have not been able to do so far, but I do tend to knit no matter what else i am doing like I always have since I was a child.
I just realized this, another BBM connection to my life, yarn...wool...sheep!!!
-
Hi Marlb42. Thanks for posting! I see that you are new here so I would like to welcome you to Bettermost!
My mother was quite the knitter. She would knit all evening as she watched tv or just visited. She made beautiful sweaters. People ordered her sweaters for themselves and family. She knitted so fast that she could complete a sweater in 4 to five days. I tried several times to learn from her but I was so awkward with it. Just couldn't get the stitches even and smooth. My mother went to school in Ireland and she said they taught girls how to knit in school. Every girl had to take it! Imagine that.
I love crafts too. I love to paint and draw. And I have always wanted to make my own jewlery. Might be something I might get into soon.
Weaving and spinning and dyeing your own yarn! Wow! Have you ever read up on doing the same with Angora rabbits? I know a couple who invested in a few Angoras about ten years ago and today they are rich people. They make their own angora yarn and sell it all over the world! They also raise and sell the rabbits. these rabbits are worth a fortune with their yarn. I guess you shear them just like sheep a few times a year. And you know how rabbits multiply! I just know the rarer the color of the Angora rabbit the more they are worth. I havn't seen them in a couple years though cause they relocated to a nicer climate. But I am sure they are still doing it . If I lived on a farm that would be something I would defineatly look in to!! :)
-
Hi Arad-3
Thanks for the welcome and the lovely note.
Your mother sounds amazing and wonderful, I bet her sweaters are beautiful!!!
I am sure that you can make jewelery if your want.
Yes I agree with you that raising Angora rabbits would be lots of fun, I have some Angora wool waiting to be spun that I bought from people who do it.
I live in a small apartment near the city, so I couldn't do it now either, but maybe someday...
thanks again so much your reply.
-
Well your more than welcome! stop in anytime!! :)
-
welcome aboard marlb42 maybe you and ARAD-3 can design me an angora guitar strap to use at my shows now that would be cool ;D
-

\\
Hi accoustic man,
Thanks for the welcome,
Actually I do a type of weaving that is used for guiter straps, iif you do want an angora one or seriously (or just cotton) specially made let me know, ; :D
:)
-
hey Tullio i'm sure we could whip you up something, but you might want to reconcider about having angora for your guitar strap! A tight weaved cotton would be more appropriate. if so, Marlb42 is the one for the job! 8)

Some pictures I found on the web that I think are really beautiful!

Hi Arad-3,
Those pictures are gorgeous ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

I wish I could do something like that so i could make my own clothes etc.. my hobby is music - I play in a brass band - which i love but a useful hobby like yours would also be good.
-
Hi Arad-3,
Those pictures are gorgeous ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)
Thanks Marlb! I love to paint so I save allot of pictures that interest me. As I really love to paint landscapes. Also in the last couple years I have gotten really into photography and try to learn from other peoples work! I have mostly just worked with local musicians making cd covers and posters but would really love to get into it more professionally sometime.
-
Hi Kelda and Arad-3
First Kelda I do admire people who can play music. Unfortunately I have no musical talent at all so I do especially do think it is great to be able to play or sing.
I am sure that you could learn to knit or crochet or sew, I would be happy to teach you but I think that we live a little far from each other ::)
I have been doing this stuff since i was really small, in fact I can only imagine how truly goofy and nerdy I was bringing my crocheting to school with me when I was around 11 and 12, at least I am sure that is what the other kids thought of me then.
But it does make me happy to do it, and I do love to wear things that I made.
Arad-3 That is so wonderful that you paint and have actually done some professional things. I so wish that I went to art school now. I have tried to paint every so often in addition to all the other stuff, in fact I have a huge collection of art supplies because I have always loved just to have them also since I was little but it usually end up going back to my yarn.
Actually somehow getting into BBM these past few weeks has really inspired me to do more 'artistic' things instead of just making practical things, (as well as to seriously try to meet people), so I think I will force myself to finally start taking at least a painting class this spring.
Is some of your work posted here, I am sure it is great!!!
Thanks again, I was so glad to see your replies. :) :) :)
-
Geri, I didn't know you could paint.
That's wonderful! :D
-
Thanks Marlb and David~
I do love to paint and draw. In the spring I think I will invest in new paint and brushes and get into it again. most of the paintings I have done I have given to friends and family for their walls, I have actually sold a couple. I do however have a couple of my least favorites left. I should dig them out and take a couple pics and post them for you to see. As far as drawing goes I love to do portraits. So most of the time they are given away to the model.
I can't wait till spring when I can get into it again! Ir's very relaxing and therapeutic for me. Thanks for your replies!

I can't wait till spring when I can get into it again! Ir's very relaxing and therapeutic for me. Thanks for your replies!
Geri, this is a wonderful idea for a thread. It gives us all an opportunity to get to know each other better.
Like you, I paint recreationally. I have painted since childhood. My preferred medium is oils on canvas. My preferred style varies. I've worked through every style from formal studio portraiture to Surrealism to Abstract Expressionism, and everything in between!
I have been represented in many exhibitions over the years, though I have not as yet had a one-man show. I recently sold a large abstract to some friends who had moved into a stylish, ultra-modern apartment. They wanted something to go with their decor. They now own three of my paintings.
Here is one of my Abstract Expressionist paintings titled "Isis in the Midnight Brightly"
-
I call this painting "Ave Atque Vale." I painted it following the death of a very dear friend. It is dedicated to his memory.
It is inspired by the Kahlil Gibran quote, "For what is it to die but to stand naked in the wind and to melt into the sun?"

I am astonished by your work! They are wonderful! I can see why people would pay money for them. your abstracts are as good as anything I have seen out there! Tell me Kerry, did you study art in school?
I must admit kerry, you are a very unique, and colorful individual. Thank you for sharing these pictures with us. please post some more !! 8)

Gee, thanx Jess and Geri.
Yes, Geri, I have studied art, but only at school - nothing more advanced. It's only ever been a hobby with me. I get most of my inspiration from my maternal grandfather, who lived next-door to me while I was growing-up. He was a draftsman by profession, but long since retired by the time I was born. He was very artistic and had me painting before I could write!
I'll try to find some more to post (alas, I don't have a lot in digital format).
LOL

Thank ya, Marlb. I'm glad you like them. I disagree about knitting LOL. I have seen some very creative knitting! My dear deceased Mama was a great knitter and I cherish some examples of her work. :)

Thanks Kerry,
Yes there is some real creative knitting out there.
I tend to do plainer things, I don't have to buy sweaters ::) ::) ::)
Although I do have aspirations of doing more 'artistic' things,
Hard to get started though
Did I say your paintings are wonderful ;D ;D ;D

Thank ya, David. I'm pleased you like them.
Grab some paints and brushes and give it a go. I bet you'll be surprised how much talent you have. To start with, pick a handful of colours that appeal to you personally. And then simply start painting. Probably best to start with an abstract, rather than a portrait or landscape. In that way you can concentrate on form and colour, rather than getting bogged down with trying to capture a photo-realist image. The important thing is to have FUN with it. There's far too much snobbery surrounding the fine arts. I say to people, "You don't know what you can do 'till you try."
-
My Mother used to tell me I couldn't draw a straight line with a ruler. I'm afraid she was right. I can't draw anything. My talents are more musical; mostly the cello, violin and piano. I have played those instruments ever since I was a little boy.
I guess I can't have it both ways can I, Kerry? ;)
But I have always greatly admired those who can paint and draw. I think it's wonderful! :)

I play a little banjo too. My friend Shawn plays the guitar and sometimes he brings his guitar with him when he comes to my house. We have a lot of fun sitting around playing "Dueling Banjos" and other songs. :)

Your sooo funny Kerry! Your doing a great job of messing Jess's "worst story ever told" up! But actually I think in order for it to live up to it's name. it can't flow with one liners. It will need the wrench's thrown in, just like your doing! Keep up the good work!

God Geri, those pictures are beautiful! I especially love the one with the flowers in the mountains. It reminds me of Switzerland and all the colorful flowers growing in the Alps! :D
The waterfalls are pretty too, but they make me want to pee. ;)

Yeah Geri, I think that's what it is! :)
.... at least in my case it is.
-
I think the waterfall pictures are beatufull :) :) :)
It is amazing though how people around here do find all sorts of associations to everything. ::) ::) ::)
Wow, the flower picture just finally loaded. :o :o :o
Now I do feel like dropping my knitting and painting,
or at least try to paint.
-
Marlb~
You could start off with a fairly inexpensive water color kit. Water colors are fun to work with. You can even purchase one of those little ones that kids use in school. It's a great way to get used to mixing and blending colors. Water colors are great for practicing landscapes, skies with clouds, sunsets, waterfalls, flowers and trees at the beginning. All you really need is a big drawing pad to paint on. You might be surprised what hidden talent you have!
-
(http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k85/Arad-3/snow3.jpg)
This reminds me of our back yard when I was growing up. Winter can be so beautiful...sometimes!
-
I agree with you Geri. Those snow storms are pretty. I always found ice storms to be incredibly beautiful too. Everything looks like it's made of crystal, especially when the sun shines through the ice, turning it into millions of tiny prisms. It looks very magical and beautiful. It's a shame snow and ice storms can be so deadly.
-
Oh I know! David! Everything looks like "wonderland" after an ice storm. Like diamonds and crystals sparkling all around you!
When i was a kid winters were allot harder than they are now. I used to love to lie in the snow and look up at the trees and sky. we lived way out in the country so there was no shotage of beautiful wintry landscapes to explore!
-
Dear Geri/ Arad-3
Another absolutely amazing picture!!!!
I remember some storms like that, even though I grew up in the city there were a lot of trees where I lived, and there were storms where all the trees were covered, and it was breathtakingly beautiful.
Your picture certainly reminds me of that.
And yes, I actually do have watercolors, I have always loved art supplies and a few years ago I bought a lot, although I didn't really start painting. I guess I didn't know where to start.
I am trying to finish a sweater now that has taken me a long time to do because I have spent so much time watching BBM and hanging out here lately. ::) ::) ::)
But I will get them out, or maybe I will buy a new set just to really start fresh and for hopefully for real this time. :) :) :)
-
Wow there's some definite talent in this place!
Kerry -- I love your paintings, absolutely gorgeous. I only dabble in painting, seems I don't have the patience for it or maybe it's the fact that everything I paint looks like a big blob! Who knows, but I really liked the shots your posted of yours.
The pictures from the web are beautiful too. Living some of that winter wonderland right now with temperatures in the negative digits makes going outside not even a thought. I like photography and fiddling around with drawing and painting but for the last ten years I have my main hobby in showing purebred dogs. Travel around on long weekends to dogshows here in the States and Canada. Get to handle some fine animals and meet a lot of nice people too. Good combination if you ask me. Plus I get to see more of the country. It's a great stress reliever from work too!
-
Hi UntamedFriesian ! I see your new here! Welcome!
Purebred dogs! Wow! How did you ever get into that? How many dogs do you have? What kind of breed do you show? Can you post some pictures of them?
I know...lots of questions! But thats very interesting to me. I used to own a Silky Terrior. She was a purebred. Beautiful dog! I ended up giving her to a couple that could afford to train her and show her. I figured I wasn't doing her any justice by making her a house pet!
Thanks for posting!
Geri
-
Hi Geri
Thanks for the Welcome! I show mostly in the Herding, Working and Toy groups. I handle other peoples dogs in other groups too! It's a strange "hobby" but it works for me. I have 6 dogs of my own. Belgian Tervurens, Great Pyrenees and Havanese. I got into showing when I was looking to buy my first Belgian Tevuren. I actually found a breeder near my place and went out to meet her and the puppies she had at the time. She had sold all the pups but told me if I would agree to show the dog when it was old enough she would bump one of the other people and let me have the pup so I said sure! That's how it started, I got hooked and love it! Prior to showing, I have been doing obedience, agility, therapy, and search and rescue with various dogs that I have owned. I still do all that and show plus I get to meet a lot of interesting people. I tried to post some pictures with my first response to you but something happened and the pictures and the post didn't go through. I am extremely technologically challenged !!!!! I haven't figured out how to get one of those smiley cowboy faces into a post yet!!
-
Wow! I might have to go on the web to look up some of these breeds! Never heard of them! But I am sure I would recognize them if i seen a picture! It really does sound like a great way to travel and meet new people! I watched a funny, funny, movie once. I think it was called "The best in show" It was about these dog shows! It was hilarious!
Have you tried using photobucket for your pics? It's easy to download pictures from there..
Are you attending the H H Backers Spring pet trade show in March? It's in Atlantic City . At the Atlantic City convention center. It's one of the largest pet retailer shows in the world. There's all sorts of new products and dogs and cats all over the place. I was invited to attend this year. I think it will be fun. Besides how can you go wrong going to Atlantic City for a weekend!
-
Atlantic city for the weekend, that would be tempting but I believe I will be in Chatham Ontario during that time for a show or it might be Indiana, can't remember which one comes first.
Never heard of "photobucket" before guess it is something I will have to look into. I found the "attach" option under the "additional Options" button so when I get home from work maybe I can try that and see if it works.
-
Lunch break -- will try to use this computer at work to post some pics
if it works, this would be my Great Pyrenees at a show up in Leamington, Ontario this past Sept.
-
I think I might have figured this out! This is one of my Belgians this past Christmas and a few Havanese too
-
OOPPPs the previous post lost my Belgian Tervuren. Those are two of my Havanese. Here is one of my Belgians, again last year when we were in Canada. (Peterboro)
-
UntamedFriesian~ your dogs are just beautiful! All of them! The little ones look like stuffed animals, just adorable. I can see how these guys would keep you so busy! You must know alot about dogs to be able to show different breeds. I'm sure each breed has different needs. You must have a deep love for them cause I'm sure it cost alot more to travel around and show them and care for them than these shows actually pay out in prize money!
You really should check out photobucket. I used to download by the Additional Options too, but someone here pointed photobucket out to me and it's made my life easier! Being on The Performance thread I really needed an easier way to post pictures.
thanks for the great photo's, I'm sure everyone will enjoy them!
-
Hey Geri, another great picture of the winter season I see. Wow there are a lot of interesting people on your thread it is so great that everyone is sharing their hobbies. Hope to see you soon!

Wow, Geri, they are really beautiful pics.
I managed to locate a digital image of another one of my paintings. This one is titled "A la recherche du temps perdu," and as such, is dedicated, with love, to the great gay French writer, Marcel Proust. I hope you like it . . .

It's just beautiful Kerry! what a talent you have. Tell me what does the title of the painting mean? !My French is pretty bad, the only word I know how to say in French is...welll. "French!" :P

Hi Geri - I only ever studied French in junior high school and all I seem to remember now is how to count from 1 to 10! I've only ever read Proust in English translation. "A la recherche du temps perdu" is the title of his vast, multi-volume autobiographical novel, which I think roughly translates as "Remembrance of Past Times."
I love this thread. You post such beautiful pics. A real feast for the eye. I love the roses.
-
More amazing pictures!!!!!
Just a queston?
How do you post pictures? I tried to yesterday but I couldn't figure it out. I saw ithe insert picture button but I don't know what to insert there and I couldn't get it to work.
I am obviously missing something ??? ??? ???
-
Well Marleen I myself "save as" ... any pictures i like on the internet. Then I have a photobucket account that I download the pictures into. then all I need to do is copy and paste. it has been awhile since I have actually downloaded directly off the web to Bettermost. So I have actually forgot. But lets see if I can remember.
First: Do you already have pics in a saved folder? If so go to additional options(below) and hit browse and you should be able to find your pictures. When you find the one you want click on it . You wont be able to see the picture withpreview though. Only with the original post. And with this option you can only download one at a time. so I have to post than go back and add anothe ...r etc.
second way. if you find pics out on the web you like. Click on them to make them larger. then right click on your mouse till you see properties. Copy the URL address. Now you can click on to "insert image" and paste the picture in the middle. You will see the divide. And that should do it.
The easiest way for me is photo bucket. But the ways i told you is the way I started out posting pictures. And it took me a bit to get it right! Let me know if you cant figure it out cause there is alto of people here that can help you! Probaby explain it more clearer than I can!
-
Thanks,
Okay, I will try this again.
Since we were on dogs the other day, I never had a dog, but I love them. ;D ;D ;D

A new world has opened up to you!
That dog is beautiful!

Geri
You made total sense ;D ;D ;D
Isn't he something??? Someday.....
Only he's off the internet.
Now I have to try my own pictures.
Now you really got me started.

-
Hi Geri
So would I.....A yard like that, with blossoming trees in the spring, and little white dogs running around in it....
I could just imagine.........
-
Well it never stops snowing up here in Centra NewYork! Here's some pictures I just took of my house, my driveway, my mailbox and the street I live on. Looks like I'm gonna have to hire someone to get me out and then shovel my roof if this doesn't let up soon!
-
Geri
So much snow :o :o :o
How can you stand it? How do you get out?
Great pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I found an interesting shovel for you, hope it helps.

Or maybe this will be better?

I am in the same state, but no snow here....so far ::) ::) ::)
-
LOL Thanks Mar! WhI really don't want to go out there! What I'm wondering is what ever happened to the good old days when all the neighbors would come out and shovel you out? I am willing to make them all hot chocolate if necessary!
-
Hey Geri,
They are coming!!!!!
Better get the hot chocolate ready. There isn't as much snow where they are so the they are on there way :D :D :D

When I was little I use to dream about liveing in those days.
When I was in the car I would imagine I was in a carriage with horses, or sleigh. :)
Oh no, the picture was too big, you can't see the folks.
Well these guys will stop and help you on their way to delivering the logs :)
-
LOL! You know I used to think about being in a carriage too. But mine was a pumpkin carriage like Cinderellas. But really how neat it would have been to travel the roads on a horse and sleigh! There's something to be really said about those days!!
-
Yep,
I have always loved old pictures and old houses and old clothes....
I guess times before just seemed so different.
And it would be fun to ride in the carriage or sleigh...but cold.
He looks kinda nice, dosn't he?
-
He sure does look nice Marleen! The second pic is a sleigh bus kinda thing. That would have been fun to get picked up for school in!
-
What fun
Here's the school.
But it looks kind of empty.
Guess all the kids are on their way home on the sleighbus.

OMG! Thats an old school picture! Whats with that guy? He looks like a little man.
-
I have no clue ??? ??? ???
The picture is bizarre, that's what I thought when I found it. A lot of things are strange about it. What about the girl or women in the upper right?
But the 'man'? Very, strange, I agree. (I went back to look at the site, no info at all, not even where)
-
Yes Mar I seen the ones on the right. that tall one looks like he could be a teacher. However that girl looks like she might have a real attitude problem!

I think some of the picture was actually cut off. Here's the original link
http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/aperrier/school_children.jpg (http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/aperrier/school_children.jpg)
I dont think the person I was referring to came through at all. Weird, here is this picture with all these intriguing people, and no way of knowing anything more.
-
Such odd looking kids! Sad thing is most all these people have had their lives by now. probably most or all of them are dead. :(
Lets think Spring again! Cheer us up!
-
Yep, spring is better.
How about in the mountains.

OMG! Thats an old school picture! Whats with that guy? He looks like a little man.
Those kids do look a bit spooky! People always do look kind of creepy in those old black and white, turn of the century pictures.
-
Yeah, they do, but there was a place near me that had a lot of old school pictures right in the window, and in some of them the faces look like they should be around today, which is also wierd.
But this picture, I do agree there is something especially creepy and spooky about them.
I don't know what, but something about them. ???
-

I think it's the blank, unsmiling stare. At least I think that's what freaks me out. I remember my Grandmother telling me about these pictures. Grandma was born in 1906, and she told me they had to sit perfectly still for approximately 30 seconds as the picture was taken. They had a thing called a "birdie" the photographer would hold up. They were told to "look at the birdie" while the camera's shutter was opened, exposing the film. We sure have come a long way from "looking at the birdie" to digital cameras. :D
-
awwh! more like it!

High School Kids Then
(http://www.andrew.cmu.edu/user/aperrier/school_children.jpg)
Also do you notice there is one black child in this class? It looks like this is 1920. This picture was defineatly not taken down South thats for sure! Does it say Stewartville, Ohio?
-
I just went back to the picture, it comes from the Carnegie Mellon U. web site. I think it does say Stewartville, Ohio. That does make sense, I guess its right next to Pittsburgh, the address on the web site.
I wondered about the black kid too. Even for the north I can't imagine many schools were intergrated then.
Can you imagine, if any of these people are still alive they would be about 103.
What an interesting picture, I guess that's why it was posted. But they do all look rather sad.
OMG, I am have CNN right now and the anchor just said, "And now we are going to Mexico, Mexico N.Y. I mean"
And there is the reporter now in the snow in Mexico, NY. (I never knew there was one.)
But the way the anchor said it, he surely must be a Brokie. ::)
-
The sad part of this picture is that all of them had their whole lives inn front of them still. Now even their children could all be dead or really old. Life is sad when you see those faces that are just ghosts now. Each of them had a story we will never know!
I think back in the harder times kids grew up allot faster. hell they probably didnt have much of a childhood at all! it shows on their faces.
mexico Ny. thats about 30 minutes from here! i seen that on Cnn too! its just as bad here. And the worse thing is it's gonna keep up all next week too! :o
-
Kerry,
I love your paintings! I'm usually not into asbtract art at all - much prefer traditional landscapes - but the colours you use are gorgeous!! Have you ever thought about having your own exhibition?

You are so right about the picture. In the city there are these amazing flea markets on the weekends. They have everything possible there. I love to go and just walk around and look but I never buy. It is just to sad to me too buy things that were left by people who have died. There are always several tables where people sell nothing but old pictures. Most of them are real old, turn of the last century. I am truly fascinated to look at them but they also do trouble me and haunt me. The first reason is because like you put it so well Geri, there are of ghosts, people who did have lives but now are no longer here, in person or even in someone's memory. Also, because these pictures have just ended up in boxes being sold for a couple of dollars at a flea market, with no way of knowing who the people were or what there lives were about. I don't know but it is so hard to think about, the passing of time and of life. But yet I am just so fascinated to look at the old pictures.
And there will be spring flowers soon

ffrn~ your animals are gorgeous! Esoecially that stallion! That first picture of the Deerhound, he was huge! Or are you really short? I have never seen them for real, just pictures but they are beautiful dogs for sure!
We have another dog breeder and shower here! UntamedFriesian . He left some pictures a few pages back too.

Nice picture Marleen! Really puts me in a Spring mood!
Your so right about those pics. And its really sad about the passing of time and life. When I think too much about it I get stressed out cause there is nothing you can do about it. I have even tried to have really boring weeks to try to make them slow down alittle! But nothing works! I can remember once that I was invited to this big party. I just couldnt wait for it, It seemed like the day was taking forever. I was wishing the days to get over so the party would finally be. The reason I couldnt wait was a boy I had a huge crush on was gonna be there! I still can remember the long wait today. That was twenty two years ago. I cant believe all that time has passed since then! Oh yeah, the boy did'nt show up! And the party was a real drag!
-
Geri what a cute story! I never knew.... I am sorry I missed the party. Luckily I have plenty of years to make it up to you.... And I am sure you will make me make it up.... boy will you make me make it up!!! I guess that is what you would call a labor of love ;D
-
Hey Geri,
Yes, I certainly know that feeling, of waiting for something, and then its gone. I started thinking about the passage of time when I was 12 and feeling that I was so old and missing being 8 ::). I never tried deliberately having boring weeks, good one, but for me that happens by itself though.
One day when I was in college and I was walking around the streets near it (the school was in the city), I stared at the Flashdance and Micheal Jackson posters in a store window (when they were the hottest things around) and I actually stopped and as I stared I thought that some day both will seem so incredibly old and so :o long ago.
OMG, that was a little more than 23 years ago ::) ::) ::)

Hey marleen!
well it's still like winter here. We have another snow storm coming through now. I had to take my daughter to the mall and wished I had'nt cause the roads were so bad. I am sooo sick of this! I just can't wait for the warmer weather comes so some of this will melt.
I will visit your blog a little later to see how you have been doing. Hav'nt been there in a couple days, but I really have not had much time to get on in the last couple days either.
I'm gonna keep on thinking of springtime. :) I know it's right around the corner somewhere!
-
Geri,
I wanted to make sure that had some new flowers. It must be cold up there, it is freezing here now.
But remember spring is coming, it will be here for sure.

But it can't last, it can't no matter what.
Spring will be here soon

Oh Marleen,
What an adorable picture! Thank you! Happy St Pats to you too!
Did you go to the parade today? Too bad it's so cold out again! I was watching the parade from NyC on the tv. My town is having a parade next Saturday. At first I couldn't understand this but now I see the temp is going to be in the 60's so that will be nice! I have to D-j tonight for a party so that will be fun!
Hope things are going good for you!
Will pm you soon when I get a chance. Have some company coming right now!
Later!
Geri

Its cold here too and my car is stuck in the ice now, I can't move it!
I'm doing okay besides that.
Have a great day, and have lots and lots of fun ;D

Hi Geri,
I'm so glad when you come by my place, so I thought I would come by here.
Congratulations to the softball team!!!!
I am glad it is finally nice up there, it is beautiful here too.
Your lamps sound really interesting, but I can't really imagine what they are like. But that is so cool that you are doing that. It sounds really great.
I hope that you do have time to do fun things, actually that does sound fun. Any painting?
One of these days I will post my attempts.
I will write more in my place, but I wanted to say hello here.
Have a great night....
:)
Marll
I am trying to expand my picture taking horizons. I took this picture today. It is wonderful to actually be taking pictures of real flowers.

Geri, this place ain't the same without you. :(

Lee download Irfanview and it will give you a program that lets you do lots of stuff to the pictures including adjusting the size.. changing the brightness, more or less contrast.. helps a lot of pics that are less
than perfect..
