Title: Brokeback Mountain meets the World of Interior Design!
Post by: ptannen on January 03, 2007, 02:41:35 pm
There is a wonderful article on the front page of today’s San Francisco Chronicle “Home and Garden Section” that definitely validates (cute  ;) ) same sex couples who love horses!  :)

My summary of the article:

John Bragg bought a double-wide trailer from a woman with a terminal cancer diagnosis.  She lived there and ran the Folger Stable for 35 years. John assumed the stable lease from Wunderlich County Park, in which the stable is located. He trains jumper and hunter horses and shows the animals. His domestic partner, Doug Dolezal, who considers himself an amateur rider, is also an interior designer and they “fixed up” the trailer.  ;D

Be sure to see the pictures in this article (I only copied two)  and don’t miss all the horse photos in their "trailer"!

Dammit!   I already decorated my livingroom just like this!

Of course the wax statue of L.D.Newsome does get in the way.   LOL
I just walk by and say: "Sit yer ass down before I knock your ignorant ass into one of those ugly purple chairs in the dining room"

Ugly gay guys exist? I thought the rule was that all the good looking guys were either 1) gay or 2) married...

LOL !  My ex girlfriend bought a keytag that says: All the Good men are Married, Gay or Crazy".

Boy was she right!    After I broke up with her, the next guy she met was also gay, then she ended up with a married guy.   He left his wife and married her.   Now which one was crazy?    ::)

Depends on who her new hubby was originally married to.  If it was, say... Ann Coulter... then the crazy one is Gay Guy #2.

That rule doesn't work both ways. "All good-looking guys are either 1) gay or 2) married" does NOT mean "All guys who are 2) married or 1) gay are good-looking."

Good catch, Jeff!  I didn't even realize that!

In philosophy, they refer to this illogical argument as "Affirming the Consequent."

You see, the logical argument that it uses as an attempt to be rational is "Modus Ponens" which states:  "If p then q."  (Affirming the Consequent assumes that the consequent [q] goes hand-in-hand with the proposition [p], which isn't so.)

Sorry, I'm a philosophy / sociology major.  I got an A in deductive reasonsing.   :D

Cool! Congratulations, David! Maybe some day you can explain Descartes to me. Never did quite get that Cogito, ergo sum business. ...  :D
Title: Re: Brokeback Mountain meets the World of Interior Design!
Post by: TheStudDuck! on January 03, 2007, 11:46:51 pm
Descartes!  "I think, therefore I am."  (I've seriously considered tattooing "cogito ergo sum" on my body.)

There's really only one thing that you need to know, and it's that he thinks nothing can be proven other than that you, yourself exist.  He tried to disprove everything that he could and go back to the roots of what he could no for sure, and in doing so he only knew one thing for certain.  That being that he was actually able to question and doubt beliefs, which meant that he was thinking.  And if he's thinking, then he, himself, must exist, for even if something was deceiving him... the fact that he was actually being deceived proved that there was something to deceive.  (If that makes sense.)

And if I'm not mistaken, I do believe that "I think, therefore I am," is a misquote... much the same way "play it again, Sam" is.

So does that mean that my favorite philosophy joke doesn't work?

(Descartes was in the grocery store, looking for some Jiffy chunky peanut butter. He couldn't find any, so he asked his local Monroe-equivalent where it was.

Monroe looked, but there wasn't any left. "How about some creamy peanut butter instead?"

Descartes huffed "I think not!" and disappeared.)

"All Good men" - ?

David, what are you saying? Now all unavailable men are not only good looking, married, gay or crazy but also simply 'good'? What's left for me? And when you say your ex-girlfriend was right, do you mean you are gay, good, crazy AND good looking? Do I believe this?

I REALLY don't have a point here..  8)

I don't think anybody disagrees with that. I sure don't. I just made the misanthropic observation that if they weren't cute, the newspaper wouldn't have done a feature on them with lots of photos--and in a previous incarnation, I used to work for a newspaper!  :o

That's a running horse weathervane.  All those old early american images have loads of symbolism... Running horses are associated with fertility, empathy, travel, power, freedom, peace, sincerity, wealth and loyalty. They are referred in the bible and their tradition dates back to the Celtic mythology. In the bible, they are used to represent virtues like righteousness, holiness and purity and also stand for salvation. White horse weather vanes hold very strong symbolic messages. They are also particularly relevant for Irish people since their folklore and fairy tales consider white horses to be very majestic. Arabian horses represent peace, friendship, sincerity and honor.

Of course these guys may not even be aware of all that...maybe it's just there coz it's a horse and these two guys LOVE horses and it's odd and unusual to have it in the bathroom...  ;D  not to make too much out of it or anything  ::)  besides I like Jeff's idea, darn thing makes a great hand towel rack!

Lynne,

Remember at the Lazy L, Ennis wanted to put all of Hal's knickknacks away because he saw them only as dust collectors? Obviously these boys share Hal's design sensibilities--they all like tschotkes. Why else would you have a weathervane in the bathroom. Bah to fertility and fingertip towels! LOL

And yes, the picture did give me a chuckle.
