Title: Vladimir Putin . . . is it just me?
Post by: Kerry on February 04, 2007, 10:53:36 pm
VLADIMIR PUTIN
A PHOTO ESSAY

. . . . is it just me?

(Disclaimer: This is NOT a political thread. I’ll be posting a photo essay of Vladimir Putin over the next couple of weeks. In so doing, I hope to be able to capture the many complexities of this fascinating man. I do so with respect at all times. If, at any time, you feel I have been disrespectful to Mr Putin, please send me a pm and let me know. I will delete any such posts immediately.  I present this thread as an appreciation of Mr Putin, not a depreciation of him. Having said that, however, please try to remember that I am viewing  Mr Putin from my own personal perspective as a gay man, so my captions and comments may sometimes come across as somewhat, how can I say, “camp.” For that reason, may I suggest that viewing this thread successfully is predicated upon you bringing your sense of humour with you.)

Vladimir Putin, President of Russia. He of the icy countenance. Those stone-cold blue eyes. That unsmiling, handsome face. Always with an immaculately-tied Windsor knot in his beautiful silk necktie. Resplendent in elegant, dark business suits. Never a hair out of place. He of the stoic mask that begs to have its true face revealed.

Time magazine named him one of their “People Who Mattered” in 2006. Personally, I don’t have a political bone in my body. An inveterate political airhead, that’s me. What attracts me to this handsome, at first appearances humourless man, is only one thing - his subtle, understated sex appeal!

In a word, I find him HOT!

I mean, there’s got to be a beating, caring heart under that granite façade, surely? We know from his official website that he is married to Lyudmila, loves horses, dogs and small children, and enjoys keeping fit. Oh, sure, he used to have something to do with the KGB (gasp!), but let’s not dwell on the past! He’s our friend now! Hee-hee!

I’d be interested in your feedback. Tell me, honestly, is he cute or is he CUTE? (in a dangerous kinda way!)

Geri, Vladimir just called me on the phone! He's so excited about being accepted as a member of BetterMost. He can't decide what his username should be - it'll probably be either "Vlad" or "Mr President," but I suspect "Mr President" has already been taken (some bloke from Texas), so it'll probably be "Vlad"! Here's the photo he'll be using for his avatar:

Oh, goodness, my phone is running hot! Just had another call from Vladimir. He's agonising about the avatar he posted at BetterMost. You know the one? With the little fluffy white dog? He's afraid it may be a little too . . . camp! So he'll be posting this photo later tonight. I think it's more appropriate for him. He's such a he-man! (sigh!)  I love the 70's "Macho, Macho Maaan" look, with the leather jacket and tight cord slacks. It's a good look, Vladimir! Way cool dude!

Hi Kerry,

This thread is great. I never thought of him that way, I just thought of him as the guy who gets betraying spies poisened.

But yes, his eyes are quite nice.

And I love the dog.

I can see why you're attracted to him Kerry. He has those Eastern European features. I have always thought Eastern European men were very handsome.

You know who I think is cute? Tony Blair. He has an "elven" look which I think is very cute.  :D

I also think Stephen Harper is cute.

And yeah, Vladimir Putin is a handsome guy too.  :D

And I love the dog.

There are a couple of dogs in Vladimir and Lyudmila's household, Marlb.

A couple of somewhat freaky lookin lil white fluff-balls . . .

And also their beautiful beautiful black Labrador, Koni. There's nothing Vladimir enjoys more than an invigorating romp  with Koni (You lucky, lucky girl, Koni!!!) . . .

That's one of Koni's pups in the first photograph on this thread.

:D  :D  :D

I remember when that photo was taken, David. Vladimir had just seen Brokeback Mountain for the first time and he was feeling all sad and teary. Deep down inside, he's really a very sensitive New Age kinda guy, who likes nothing more than skipping through the park with a big bunch of flowers . . .

He's a very artist person, who enjoys pottery . . .

And weaving . . .

And even though he has acquired rock idol status . . .

He has never lost the common touch, 'cause he loves babies . . .

And a good ol' fireside gossip whenever his busy schedule allows . . .

He's just one of those fascinating, multi-faceted kinda guys, I guess!

Gotta say, Kerry, I don't see the attraction, (and David! shame on you! Stephen Harper!?!?!?)

But, the tongue in cheek "dead head gay - findin anythin male on two legs sexy" attitude (or should I say, love affair fer "Vlad") yer portrayin here, I'm finding fun and interestin. Can't wait ta see where you're gonna take us on this little off-the-wall trip a yers.

Oh, Geri, Vladimir looks so cute in his Jack-Twist-lookalike-black-cowboy-hat! Yee-Haw! It shows off that purdy little package he's got there in his tight brown cords! And can you believe it? He's now quoting Annie Proulx in his formal speeches to the people of Russia? I wonder if they realise how lucky they are, to be hearing such wonderful literature quoted by their President?

"Excuse me, sir. Hello, there, my name is Vladimir. Could I ask you a question? Do you think I look like a reptile? My mate, Melissa, over at BetterMost, told me I look like some sorta viper. Well, I can't begin to tell you how much I've been wounded by her comment. You know, I try to be cute. It's not easy being this stitched-up and anal-retentive, 24 hours a day. Tell me, when I look at you side-ways like this, raising one eye-brow coquettishly, and give you my sexiest, come-hither smile, don't you think I look just like that sexy Jack Twist in Brokeback Mountain? No? Shucks, okay, I'd better keep on practicing. What's that you say, get rid of the comb-over? Do you think that'd help my image? Okay then, I'll give it a go. Thank's for listening, mate!"

Kerry and David,

You two guys are not the only ones who thinks Vladimir Putin is sexy.  Remember when Bush met with him back in 2001 in Ljubliana,  Slovenia prior to 9-11?  Bush said "I gazed into his eyes and could see his soul."  Perhaps Bush didn't really see Putin's soul but he liked what he saw eyes and all.  I do believe that Vladimir Putin actually captivated George W. Bush and to this day Bush doesn't have anything bad to say about Putin.  Truthfully I think those cold blue eyes captivated George W. Bush.  Now if I am right about that and I have a hunch that I am wouldn't that destroy all the negative sayings by the ultra conservatives? lol ;D

Wow, I didn't know about that, Bucky. Fancy George saying of Vladimir, "I gazed into his eyes and could see his soul." That certainly is very highly-charged, emotive language for one man to use, when describing another man. I mean, the word "gazed" alone has all sorts of sizzling, romantic connotations, don't you feel? That quote really does blow me away! Thanks for your post!  :D

I rather like this  cute picture taken when Vladimir visited the White House on 16 Sept 2005. I think George might be gazing into those beautiful azure-blue eyes again!

And I simply adore this happy-snap of Vladimir and George, larking about together, as only good mates can!

Hey Kerry~

I guess he is a Brokie!  Was he at Bush's ranch in Texas or Camp David when that was shot?  Oh how you quick me to the cut!  You little Devil!

I'm not sure where that photo was taken, Geri.  ???  If it was in Russia, it certainly wasn't during the winter!

OMG! Vladimir in drag! If his secret wasn't out before, it certainly is now!  :o

I gotta say, though, he does look somewhat (disturbingly) fetching in that head-scarf!  :-*

He tells me he bakes an outstanding cherry cake! God love him!

I know that sad-puppy, lonesome cowboy look! I'd recognise it anywhere! You can always tell when a man's in love. He gets that cute lil sad-puppy, please-pet-me look all over his face! And that's just what Vladimir's got here! I suspect he might have a crush on one of those strapping young soldiers with the big, shiny boots. They know how to win over their boss, those soldier-boys! Vladimir always was a sucker for a man with a nosegay! Tee-hee!

<Seriously, Geri, I love your work. Where are you getting your pics from? Are you visiting the same site I'm visiting? I'll tell you the name of my site, if you tell me the name of yours LOL!>

An old Rival of Vladimir's....Henry Kissinger

I saw Henry Kissinger being interviewed on the evening news the other night. Forget what it was about. Madeleine Albright was also being interviewed about the same thing. A senatorial hearing in Washington, perhaps? I just didn't catch what it was about (I was preoccupied with my red wine at the time!).

I swear he looked just like the pic you posted, Geri!  :o

Melissa, Henry Kissinger is what I personally would call an unattractive man! (especially the pic of him that Geri posted!). And that voice! OMG! Is that voice scarey, or is that voice SCAREY?!

I can see why you're attracted to him Kerry. He has those Eastern European features. I have always thought Eastern European men were very handsome.

You know who I think is cute? Tony Blair. He has an "elven" look which I think is very cute.  :D

I also think Stephen Harper is cute.

I have been trying to think of someone else, besides Vladimir, who might be a Brokie?

I thought of Cheney, not possible. (Anyway he's not fun at all)

John Edwards, actually I like him, and I think he is quite, well, cute.

But maybe there was more between him and Kerry, (John that is),..........

SORRY back to Vladimir!!

I didn't recognise it, Jess. I thought you must have written it just for me and Vladimir! LOL  ;D

Where I grew up in Sydney's Northern Beaches, I had no little boys to play with. All the children in my street, my age, were little girls. Though there were boys at school, I always gravitated towards the girls to play with. They were always clean and smelt nice and what's more important, they weren't interested in bloody cricket! All the boys were obsessed with either cricket or rugby, both of which left me bored to tears. I went to an all-boys school from age 12 and I missed having my little girl friends to play with in the school yard.

Skipping was as athletic as I could manage!!! My favourite skipping game started out slow, reciting something like "What sort of man will I marry?" over and over (I forget the exact words), and then the two children holding each end of the rope would increase the pace to warp speed as they shouted, increasingly quickly, the different categories of men you might marry. Whichever name the skipper was tripped up on, was supposed to be the man you would marry.

Jess, you mentioned that you could remember things vividly from your childhood. So can I. I can still remember all the different men I could have married, in their correct order:
* Tinker
* Tailor
* Soldier
* Sailor
* Rich Man
* Poor Man
* Beggar Man
* Thief

This was repeated over and over, at an ever increasing speed, until the skipper tripped up. I remember that I always wanting to land on "Sailor." Even at age 8, I was keen on men in uniform!  ::)

Funny thing is, I did marry a sailor (Royal Australian Navy) and we were together for many years.

I'm a pretty old fashioned kinda gal, Jess!  ::)

Though I had crushes on a couple of boys at school (and a few of the teachers, too!) nothing was ever consummated. I have only ever been "in love" with one man! My sailor! True story! When you've had the best, who needs the rest?!  ;)

I still remember vividly the moment I met him. I can still clearly see the room where we met - a beautiful house with picture windows overlooking the Pacific Ocean. And though I can't remember what I was wearing, I will never forget what he was wearing - his "eights" (Royal Australian Navy work uniform). I literally went weak at the knees! He was the most beautifully handsome thing I had ever seen in my life, with his dark hair and intense blue-grey eyes! I fell in love with him at first sight!  :D

I'll always love him.

Hi Marleen - Yes, I did indeed see your posts, and loved them. Geri is a very good teacher - and you are a very fast learner!  :D

I absolutely adore the pic of Vladimir in his judo suit. I understand he has a Black Belt.  ??? Something very senior.

I've saved your post to my PC. I love the cute little coquettish smile he's giving to "someone"  8)  just off camera!

Here's a snap of him in action!

Oh My God! Vladimir knows Karate??

It's no wonder why ol' Georgie boy is so scared of him then.

I heard Vladimir and George Bush watched a private screening of "Brokeback Mountain" in a secret room over at the Kremlin. Condi Rice walked in and caught the two of them holding hands.  :P

Hi, Geri,

Yeah, there showing the snow on CNN today, wow.  I would go a more that a little nuts if I was in that much snow.  Is it possible to get out at all?  And they are saying there will be more, I think ::) ::) ::) ::)

There hasn't been any really snow down here at all this winter, but there may be some this week.

But the tent scene is amazing, I laughed real loud,. when I saw it ;D ;D

hey Marleen~

Right now I can't get out.     It's been snowing steadily here for two weeks!    I'm waiting till it stops snowing to get my driveway plowed out.    Everytime I get it plowed the village snowplows go by and fill it back in!!!  It's just not gonna let up!!!  I wish I had some B O O Z E !
Cause there's nothing else to do.   Well besides make up pictures on the computer!

I'm glad you liked the tent scene!

Geri,

I loved the tent scene.  How do you do it?

I cannot imagine so much snow or being so stuck.  Last year we got around 20 inches in one day, but a lot was gone by the next day.  I cannot imagine it snowing every day for weeks.  Has it been much much worse than usual, how much do you usually get?

Do you have enough food?

Right as I am writing this there showing a reporter in the snow in Oswego, the snowbanks are about six feet high and its snowing hard.

Wow :o :o :o :o :o :o

Marleen~

Oswego is about 40 minutes from here!  They're getting slamed hard right off of lake Ontario there. So what they are getting we probably are getting close to the same. I'm in the "snowbelt" area.  This is most we have got in a while.  We had nothing here really until till this storm hit! Last couple years have been really mild winters here so I cant complain too much. It's just allot of snow to handle all at once though.

yes I have enough food. I could always get out and hike to a store which would be about a mile. but i wouldnt do that unless I really had to.

Man I am looking out the window right  now and it's coming down even harder than it was! if thats at all possible! :o

Oh Poor Geri!! God, I thought we had it bad in Indianapolis the other day when we received 8 inches of snow... but two weeks worth? I can't even imagine it.

It's the severely cold temperatures that's making it so bad for us here. It's only 12 degrees here, and I think this will be as warm as it gets here today. It has remained WELL below freezing here for the past couple of weeks. A lot of wind too.  :P

Hi Geri,

 :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o :o

I have never ever been in snow like that. Unbelievalbe. :o :o :o

What happens once it stops, does life get back to normal failrly fast?

I mean down here we have blizzzards every few years, and everything stops for a couple of days, when I was little we had a lot of fun building snow houses right in the middle of the street.  But even our blizzards is nothing like what you have ever. (and I'n not even all that far away)

Righit now here its is bright and sunny and it looks like spring, I just went for a walk, but is cold and real windy (and no snow).

Its good you do have enough food :)

You know I think that we are not wrong about Vladimir and George

What was that you said a while back, Geri, about powerful men being very sexy? That's what I'm getting from this pic. There's something very sexual about the way the taller George has his arm protectively around the smaller-framed Vladimir.

You can literally smell the testosterone in the air!  :-*

Crikey, all that snow sounds pretty scarey to me. It never snows here in Sydney, where I live. The Snowy Mountains are about a five hour drive south of Sydney and people drive down there for a weekend of skiing in the winter. But it never snows here in Sydney.

Yikes, that is very grim. We have a group here  in Oz called SES. They call on people in their homes when we have big storms that damage homes, floods, bushfires, etc. Do you have an organisation like that, to bring you oil and food? Now I'm worried  :(

Aw, that's such a lovely postcard from Vladimir, telling me he loves me. Fact is, Geri (can I tell you this confidentially, just between the two of us?), he's been very cross with me of late. I think it was a touch of the old green-eyed monster, jealousy! He told me I wasn't spending enough time with him. Accused me of "seeing" (the actual word he used was much more vulgar and coarse!) another man. I tried to convince him that all my spare time was spent at BetterMost! But he wouldn't believe me. The KGB had prepared a dossier on me, apparently, and he was very angry when he read it.

Fact is, he's been very worried about you. He even lit a candle for you the other day . . .

P.S. Everything is fine with us now, in the "intimacy" department! My little ploy to "treat him mean and keep him keen" worked big time! And how!  ;)    :D

Gad, they're such a couple of larrikins, that pair! Can't they keep their hands off each other for even a moment? It must have been impossible trying to sleep with them carrousing above you, on the roof, Geri! And I know from first-hand experience that Vladimir is a screamer!!! That coupled with George being an inveterate giggler! Crikey, what a nightmare for you! How did you manage to get any sleep? I'll have a stern word to Vladimir, when he comes skulking back home with his tail between his legs! God knows when that'll be, though. I mean, rowing can't be the quickest mode of transport available, surely?!

Well, Geri, ya know, I'm not just being a brave lil soldier when I say this, but I really am very happy for Vladimir. Sure, I'd prefer for his slippers to be parked under my bed, not Georges. However, having said that, I really must release him to his highest good on all levels. Yeah, sure, as if I really believe any of that bullsh*t! Get yourself home immediately, Vladimir, you vacuous lil bimbo, you! Quit foolin with that trash and get yourself home for some quality lovin!

Happy Valentines Day to you too, Geri!  :D

Did you have a nice day? Has that wretched weather let-up a little?

I love Vladimir's new hat!  When he finally gets himself home, I'll be claiming it for myself!

He can have his old hat back and I'll take the new hat . . .

Geri, I've heard on the grapevine that Vladimir's given up on that silly plan of his to row home . . .

I'm still cross about his sordid little tryst with George. If he thinks he's going to win me over with a lousy ice cream when he gets home, he's got another thing coming!

And that goes for beans too, Vladimir! You're going to have to do better than beans to win me over! Try putting down those beans and pick-up that diamond bracelet over on the other counter! Yes, the diamond bracelet will probably go a long way towards healing my broken heart . . .

Just wanting to say good morning or afternoon or goodnight to ya. It's hard to keep track what time of day your at right now.  I suspect its like 8 oclock in the evening for you right now. You did say 14 hours ahead of us right? Or is it behind us? I forget.

Anyways kerry I am so enjoying your posts. I look forward to your responses everyday! I didnt have much of a chance till late tonight to post so they are brief and in this case right to the nitty gritty

I Hope you had a nice valentines day.  It's still storming here in upstate New York. Right now it's still a whiteout condition.   But We are surviving it all so far.   Can't go too far, but its warm a cozy inside and the weather pattern is gonna change next week to higher temps.   So it all looks well.

I'm going to bed!  So for now...nighty night!

Hi Marleen!  :D

Ahs just fine thank ya! How's yerself?

Vladimir simply adores flowers. Pansies are his favourites! He can't seem to get enough of them.

I think I was the winner in that exchange. I got a diamond bracelet and all I had to give him in return was a modest pansy nosegay!!!

 :D Hey Geri!

How did you get your hands on that pic of Vladimir going down on George?! I can only guess that you must have bribed that private investigator I've had following them around. Please promise me you'll destroy the negative. I'd hate for it to find its way onto the Internet. It'd really bugger-up Vladimir's political aspirations if it did! (in more ways than one!!!)

But seriously, Geri, I have a stomach ache from laughing so hard at that pic of Vladimir trying to retrieve the diamond bracelet from inside George's trousers. That is what he's doing, isn't it?! Pl-eeease tell me he's not doing "the other thing"! The unfaithful little rotter! (I say that in a spirit of love and affection!)

<I'll try again> . . . But seriously, it's always lovely to hear from you, Geri, and read your posts. I especially love the pics you post. I'm usually reading them late at night, just prior to retiring, and they always send me off to bed with a laugh. It's a lovely way to end the day.

Your last post came through at 20:01:26 so you're spot-on with estimating my time at 8 p.m. (I'm ahead of you).

Thank you for your kind words about my posts. I enjoy posting them and always enjoy reading yours.

Valentine's Day was pretty quiet for me. How about you? Vladimir gave me some lovely heart-shaped balloons, but that was about it! He's still trying to get on my good side! I've forgiven him (cain't help lovin dat man!), but I'm not telling him that! I'm treating him mean and keeping him keen! Tee-hee!

I was sorry to hear you're still experiencing those nasty ol' whiteout conditions. Happily, though, it sounds like more pleasant weather is on the way for you. Yee-haw!!!

Nearly 1 a.m. Saturday morning here now so must away to the Land of Dreams!

Lotsa love,

Kerry

Well i sure do hope you have a lovely weekend!  Be good and we will chat again soon!

Oh, Geri, I love your pictures. You have a real flair for comedy and camp humour! I love the pic of Vladimir with his teddy bear, sucking his thumb! Aw, sooo cute. Definitely a keeper!

I had a lovely weekend, thank you for asking. I went to see Miss Potter and loved it. Don't miss it. It's a beautiful movie. Did you have an enjoyable weekend? How's that mean ol' weather treating you? I hope it is a little less fierce this week.

When I started this thread, I was very careful to stress in the first post that I wanted it to be a fun place, a bit "camp" at times (understatement?!) and didn't want it to be seen as a political thread. Well, I'm now going to break my own rule by advising of a story from this week's Sydney gay press. In an article titled, "Russia Supports Queer Rights," comes this:

The Russian President, Vladimir Putin, two weeks ago, confirmed his support of equal rights for all. Speaking at his annual Kremlin press conference, Putin was asked by  Marina Lapenkova of Agence France Press (AFP) if he agreed with the view of Moscow Mayor Yuri Luzhkov that gay parades were "satanic." "I respect - and will respect - freedom of people in all their manifestations," Putin said.

He's a much more enlightened, compassionate leader than the leader of my country.  Australia's Prime Minister,  John Howard, is a homophobic bigot of the highest order. He could learn a lot from dear, sweet Vladimir.

<this is s true story lol>

Hey Geri  :D

Thank goodness that nasty weather of yours has started to improve at last. It's hard for me to imagine weather that harsh. It is mid-summer where I am, with all the outdoor activities that entails. February is also Gay Mardi Gras month in Sydney, with lots of tempting things to do out of doors (and in!), distracting me from my PC. For example, I went to see the Matthew Bourne (gay) production of the Tchaikovsky ballet Swan Lake on Wednesday night. In this production, the Prince falls in love with a male swan, instead of the usual female swan. I've been telling everyone that it's just like Brokeback Mountain, danced  and  set to music! If anything, it's even more tragic than BBM, because both the Prince and the Swan die in the end. I certainly had a good cry! Did you see it when it was in New York? It had the longest run of any ballet on Broadway.

Fancy you having a business called Keri by Geri! That made me smile! And what a small world - you having relatives in Australia. I work at a large hospital in Sydney and we have some Canadian nurses on staff, but no Americans that I know of.

Moving on from the sublime to the ridiculous, I understand that Valdimir and his wife, Lyudmila, are experiencing some marital difficulties. Lyudmila is very concerned that her one-time sports enthusiast husband, nowadays only ever wants to go to the ballet:

And Lyudmila is cross about the amount of time Vladimir spends pumping iron in the gym:

She is also very worried about the big, burly, hairy men that Vladimir seems so fond of these days:

Sounds like a classic case of a Brokeback Marriage to me.

And both dying in the end. You must of been crying through it.That is such a sad thought.   I know the story. it's very sad,

I'm just happy to know that your happy. That's all that really matters.  I  truely hope that you are living a "life" that's good for you.     The hind site was for everyone to learn  at the end of BBM.     How many times have you heard... "if I had twenty twenty vision" I would have done it different?   This is the ten and ten that equals twenty. Right now! Everyone should know that.

Yes I have relatives somewhere near you. But they would'nt  be Ameriican, they would be English or Irish.   See my parents are Irish but like myself there is a bunch of us that were born in England.    I will have to find out now for sure since now I know you. ;)

Geri

Hey Geri,

The Matthew Bourne ballet company is London-based. They are presently on tour in Australia for 3 months. They have an extensive repertoire, but their most famous ballet is the gay Swan Lake:

I was lucky to get very expensive, sought-after, opening night seats last Wednesday. I say "lucky" because I won them in a competition! I was so thrilled!

The DVD of the Matthew Bourne production is available. It's released through Warner Music Vision and NVC Arts in Australia - not sure about in the USA. If you love the original as much as I do, the gay version is a definite must see! I've seen the original performed by the Bolshoi Ballet, the Leningrad Kirov Ballet, the Novosibirsk Ballet and the Australian Ballet. The Matthew Bourne interpretation is the best, in my humble opinion.  I sat for 2 hours in a darkened room yesterday and watched the DVD, in floods of tears throughout! Tchaikovsky's beautiful music does it to me every time. Double that impact with a theme about unrequited gay love, that ends in abject tragedy (sound familiar?), and you can imagine why I was in such a weepy mess. Can't wait to see it again!!!

If your ancestry is Anglo/Irish, you would be right at home, here in Australia, Geri! Lots of Irish and English people live here. My own ancestry is English.

Wishing you a fabo weekend, Geri! I always look forward to reading your posts.

Your friend in Oz,

Kerry

hey Kerry!!
Sorry i haven't had allot of time lately to surprise you with pics of our boys!   I am a LPN nurse and i got called back to work nights. between two daughters i only have a limited time to sleep. After such a hard winter now i figure i need the extra money. I also took on a work at home job that keeps me away from the computer during my wake hours.   But this is all part time and I will get back on the horn here soon and get some new pics.

Kerry, you sound like your a very sensitive man. I already know that you are a quick witted funny guy just by reading your posts.   But I  defiantly think your a class act.     Far and few  in between like you!

It seems like you have a wonderful life in Sydney. I thought I read  somewhere that you lived there!   I still have to make the inquiries where my relatives live over there.   I know there are cousins of my moms there.  She's gone now so it's harder to find out.   Our ansesters are all Irish or Norwegian.

It makes me smile to to think of you sitting in a dark room crying through the  ballet.   I dont know why, must be I'm tired and need to go to bed.  But you know something kerry....that is what makes you so wonderfully interesting.  xoxo Geri

Hey Geri  :D

Gee, I can't believe another week has come and gone, and here we are at the weekend again. Not that I'm complaining! No way will you ever hear me complaining about the weekend. No ma'am!

Did you have a good week? Certainly does sound like you have a lot on your plate, Geri, what with work and family and all. What a coincidence that you're a nurse. I also work in the Health industry. And so does David. Small world.

David's gone and got me hooked on the blog quiz thingies over at Polling Place and I have been reading everyone else's results, whenever I make a post. Yours included! I feel I have come to know you better,  through your responses. Sometimes my responses are close to your own, and sometimes very different. You know, I suspect I'm probably hooked on those quizzes!

Has that nasty weather of yours improved? I saw on the television news tonight that there have been terrible storms in Alabama. They showed a school where a roof had caved-in, killing several pupils. It looked like a bomb had gone off. Very sad to see.

You must try to get the Matthew Bourne production of Swan Lake, Geri. With your sensitive, caring nature, you will really love it.

It's past midnight where I am, so I must away to the Land of Dreams now.

Lotsa love,

Kerry  :)

I am on-line now, Geri, but wasn't on-line when you posted your previous message. I see that you are not on-line now, which is probably because I estimate the time to be approx. 6.30 on Saturday morning where you are. A new film purported to be based on President Vladimir Putin's normally very private life is soon to be released in Russia.

The film, called A Kiss - Off the Record, is due to come out on Valentine's Day, but only on DVD.

Its fictional hero is a German-speaking St Petersburg Russian with a secretive job who marries a stewardess, has two daughters and rises to the presidency.

This matches the president's life story although his name is not mentioned.

The film was completed five years ago, but there has been speculation that the Kremlin delayed its release until now, weeks before President Putin leaves office.

Very little is known of President Putin's private life. His wife Ludmila rarely appears in public, and there are very few pictures of his grown-up daughters Maria and Katerina.

"What is he like in life and in the family? What is in his soul? Will he have room left in his heart for love?" the film's publicity brochure says of the fictional character.

The Kremlin was not consulted about the film, which was shot from 2001 to 2003, Anatoly Voropayev, the film's producer and a former deputy regional governor, told journalists at a preview.

"We live and work under a certain first person so when we speak about politics we cannot just ignore that," he said.

But the film's real heroine is the stewardess, who also bears the name Ludmila, said the film's artistic director Oleg Fomin.

"It is a family love story above all, it is a story about a woman whose husband is very busy at work, a woman who wants a family and children and wants to see her beloved person close to her," he said.

Some of the film's key scenes appear to recreate Vladimir Putin's first meeting with Ludmila, their marriage in 1983 and their move to Dresden in Germany where he worked for the KGB, reports say.

Oh, Kelda, thank you so much for posting this. I do so hope it's released with English sub-titles. I, for one, will definitely be getting a copy.

Vladimir is very private about his personal life. Very few pics of Lyudmila exist in the public domain and even fewer of his two daughters. In fact, this is the only pic I have of them all together.

These are the only other pics I have of Lyudmila (I'd like to think they're her  dogs, not his! ).

This is the most treasured pic I have in my VVP collection. It was taken in my back garden, during Vladimir's visit to Sydney for the APEC Summit last year. It's not widely known that he visited me at that time, so keep it under your hat (especially from Lyudmila!). And yes, those flowers were  for me! Sigh!

Putin dismisses divorce rumours

Outgoing Russian President Vladimir Putin has denied rumours he has secretly divorced and plans to remarry.

He told reporters during a visit to Italy there was "not a single word of truth" in the tabloid news reports.

The papers linked him to 24-year-old former Olympic gymnast Alina Kabayeva, who is now a member of parliament.

Mr Putin said: "I have always reacted negatively to those who with their snotty noses and erotic fantasies prowl into others' lives."

He said many beautiful women were mentioned in the papers and he liked "them all, like all Russian women".

"I don't think I will offend anyone if I say that I, personally, consider that our Russian women are the most talented and the most beautiful," he said standing alongside Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

"If anyone can compete with them, then it might be Italian women," he added in response to a Russian reporter's question on the rumours.

Ms Kabayeva's office has told other news organisations that she has no comment on the claims.

A spokeswoman for Ms Kabayeva, quoted by Reuters news agency, said the reports of a romantic liaison with President Putin were "all complete rubbish".

Berlusconi comments

Mr Berlusconi has also been known to pronounce on the physical attributes of women.

Only last week, he said right-wing female politicians were better looking than their left-wing counterparts.

He was quoted as telling local media on the pre-election campaign trail that the left had "no taste" in women.

His remarks provoked an angry reaction from the centre-left, which accused him of being sexist.

It is unclear whether Mr Putin's comments will prompt a similar reaction in Russia, where he has cultivated what some see as a macho image.

He has been photographed fishing, bare-chested in the wild, on board fighter jets and taking part in black-belt judo.

Thanks so much for posting that story, Kelda.  :D

The rumours have even reached us way down here in Oz. God only knows what the truth actually is. I guess it'll all come out in the fullness of time?  ::)

Hmmm, I'll need to confirm that with my spook in MI6!   8)

Probably unlikely, as they would be coming from the UK!   ???

 Putin's action-man holiday album

By James Rodgers
BBC News

The Tuva holidays of Vladimir Putin - the title of a summer blockbuster film?

The name of a thriller about an ex-KGB officer just trying to enjoy a quiet life, but who keeps getting drawn back to solve problems which defeat everyone else?

No, but there might be something to that…

It is actually the headline which the website of one of Russia's leading news agencies, Ria Novosti, put above a selection of official photographs of Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin enjoying a summer break in a remote region of Siberia.

Mr Putin is shown standing on a rocky mountain slope; resting in the branches of a tree; swimming in a river; riding a horse.

In most of the photos, he wears military-style clothes and boots. In the equestrian shots, he is shirtless.

In a country where most men do not live until the age of 60, Mr Putin stands out as an example of someone who has looked after himself.

Smoking and drinking are big factors in Russia's low male life expectancy.

Mr Putin will be 57 in October. He looks in better physical shape than many Russian men 20 years his junior.

His media team want to make sure that message - like Mr Putin's chest - does not remain hidden.

The implication, obviously, is that he knows how to look after the country too.

To anyone fed up with their father/husband/boss dragging himself out of bed, or going to work so hung over he does not really know what he is doing, these pictures say: "At least there is one man who is in control".

Lost in translation

That is important for the prime minister, whose main task is to steer Russia through the storms of economic crisis.

It also serves as a reminder that he has in no sense become less active since ending his time as president.

The suggestion is that he would be in good shape to go back to the top job in 2012 if that is the way things turn out.

The Kremlin either does not know, or does not care, how these pictures will be seen by some people in the West.

The photographs of a bare-chested Mr Putin riding a horse through mountain scenery may of course put some people more in mind of a recent Hollywood film about gay cowboys.

That is not the message these pictures, and those of previous years, send out to the majority of Russians.

In Russia, they reinforce Mr Putin's image as a man many men aspire to be, and - as a recent pop song suggested - many women aspire to be with.

Thanks for posting those great pics of Vlad, Kelda, and the article too. Not bad for an ole KGB agent! As it says in the article, most Russian men 20 years younger don't look that good!

Speaking of special agents, I am addicted to the BBC television series "Spooks." This is the link:

Do you watch it? My favourite character is MI5 Senior Case Officer Lucas North, played by actor Richard Armitage (pant!).  :D

What a trip that they tied Brokeback into this.  The guy seems so vain, but if he's out there setting a good example in terms of taking care of oneself, that's a good thing I guess.

Of course with his photos all over the web, there's the usual snarkiness...  comments like, "that guy should be Putin his shirt back on."
