A young and orphaned Cherokee boy is raised by his White Grandfather and Native American Grandmother in the mountains of Tennessee during the 1930's. A beautiful, gentle movie and a definite "tear jerker".
My boyfriend (from England) and I watched this tonight. I have seen it many times before, but this is one of those movies that never gets old. It is a story of tolerance, acceptance, love and forgiveness. Since I am part Native American, it reminds me of all my people had to endure, even within the past century.
The Education of Little Tree
Starring:
Joseph Ashton as Little Tree
James Cromwell as "Granpa"
Tantoo Cardinal as "Granma"
Graham Greene as Willow John
HIGHLY Recommended!

I love this movie too David! We have it on DVD and I probably watch it at least once a year. Lovely, gentle film. You are the only other person besides my family I've ever met who had even heard of it! :D

This is strange Dottie, because YOU are the only person besides me and a few select friends who had seen the movie! :D
I think ANYONE who loves Brokeback Mountain would love The Education of Little Tree. The central message in both movies is the same - tolerance, acceptance and love. And it takes place in the mountains too! :)
It looks like our Little Tree (Joseph Ashton) is growing up though. Here's a fairly recent picture of him...

Time flies, doesn't it? :)
Here's a few more scenes from the movie...
(I have NO idea why some of these pictures are in black & white, because the movie is entirely in color.)
