This space is reserved for the building of a chat room service FAQ, based on the questions we receive from residents. We'll be developing this one on an ongoing basis, so keep an eye out.

If pop-ups happen each time someone begins typing, and this interrupts your typing - try this:
»A popup message appears everytime someone enters a message in the chat room
This is an optional feature called Popup Notification.
To enable or disable popup notification, an end-user must right-click in the main chat display and toggle the "Popup Notify" option.
You may also want to enable or disable this setting by default in your Account Control Panel. This option can be found in the 'Settings' tab under 'User Defaults'. Set 'Visual (Popup) Notification' to Yes or No depending upon your needs.
Let me know if you were able to try this, and if it works.

This problem usually afflicts Firefox users most frequently. It doesn't seem to happen much with IE, but it's a problem that can drive you crazy. Some folks are also reporting problems hearing sounds, so please let me know if that is true with you, mentioning if you are on a PC/Mac and what browser/version you are using.

i had the problem with the java that elle mentioned. I used your suggestion, and it worked fine. The other problem i have continued to have however is the lack of ability, to use lincs here..I get no reaction when i cllick on a linc..

I don't know the answer to this one, Janice. Maybe Phillip will know.
Here's a good one for some of us - the online help says that if copying and pasting doesn't work for you in chat (and it doesn't work for me), try dragging and dropping. I tried that, and it does work. I can go to a doc or a website, highlight the text I want, and then click and drag it into the chat.

Links to needed programs would be helpful...Ex: Java?

Here's the Java link:

On June 24th, 1967, four years after last seeing each other after coming down off the mountain, Jack came and visited Ennis in Riverton, and had the historic kiss.

I am trying to make myself set up this new computer (since it appears it is not gonna fix itself)
When I try to load the chat room I get an error message that says
We have encountered an error while loading this applet.
Please reload the applet and try again.
I have checked both Java and Flash to make sure I have the most current editions...I am on Vista *Spit*
anyone have any clue how to 'fix' this?

I have submitted the question already to their tech team to get more information. I'll let you know what I find out. It may have something to do with Vista.

The response I got for Vista users is a suspicion you are either using an outdated version of Java, or something is hanging around in your Java cache that might be from an earlier version.
My first recommendation is to uninstall your existing version of Java from Add/Remove programs. Reboot. Visit: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp and select the online version of Java for Windows Vista (should be the first or second thing in the list). Install.
Now try and see if you can enter. If it fails again, if there are any error codes or other information on screen, jot it down and post it here.
