The wind was gusting hard and loud.

That's the best I could guess.  I think it might be pretty close, at least, hunh?

Clarissa,

That's as close as I got, too.  Then I noticed that the last word can't be "loud" because of the conflict with the "U" in "gusting."

But unlike you, I couldn't stand the suspense any longer...  so I cheated.  :(  (And then I wanted to kick myself for not working on it at least a little longer.)

 Hi Fran and Ellemeno,

The line is actually, "The wind was gusting hard and cold" and comes from the scene were Ennis and Jack part after leaving Brokeback. I'm sorry this one was such a dud, I'll try to find ones with more matching letters from now on. I say you should both get lambs for attempting this dog and sticking with it. ;) Whoever wants to can post the next one.

Paul,

No need to apologize.  It was a great puzzle.  Challenging ones are good once in a while.

When I saw what the last word actually was, I just shook my head and thought:  Of course!  Thanks for giving us a challenging puzzle.

Fran

P.S.  No lambs for effort!  :)
