Honest response? I'm sure I'll end up waiting till it shows up on PBS some Gay Pride Month, as it surely will. I "go to the movies" for entertainment, not for something like this.
(Probably explains why I haven't seen Al Gore's movie, or
Amazing Grace, or
Amistad, or any of a long list of socially responsible, "good for you" movies.)
Bitchy response? In my case this film is preaching to the choir. I don't need to see it. To borrow from the review in this morning's
Philadelphia Inquirer, I already know that "those who quote Leviticus to justify their animosity are guilty not just of intolerance but also of selective piety [and] an inability to understand historical context."
The conclusion to the review in this morning's
Inquirer:"[T]here is no denying that this film ... fills a need. The inevitable DVD should be packaged in a plain cardboard sleeve, so that viewers can carry it in their pockets, and if confronted by a homophobe, hand it over and say 'Watch this, then get back to me.'"

The trouble, of course, is that those who need to see this film won't see it.
