Music you like
« on: July 04, 2007, 04:31:51 am »
Hi everybody!

As I haven't seen any threads about music (I could be wrong though), I thought I could make one as I am a huge music fan.

My favourite bands are U2 and MUSE. I love almost every kind of music, hip-hop to indie-rock to some classical music.

What about you all?

U2, Weezer, Spoon, Scissor Sisters, Travis, movie soundtracks, Soup Dragons, The Who, and so many many more.  I still have a bunch of vinyl LPs and EPs from the 80s and 90s, and a bunch of 45s as well.

Hi, Ally, welcome to BetterMost, and congratulations on becoming our 1,000th member!

Let's see, I like a fairly wide range of music, mostly in the rock and pop categories (dearly love some classical as well, and am becoming more acquainted with country and Western, engendered by my appreciation of Brokeback Mountain). Some groups and artists I like include (in no particular order): Restless Heart, Thin Lizzy, the Allman Brothers, Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks, Shania Twain, Journey, Third Eye Blind, the Roches, Bette Midler, Nanci Griffith, and Marianne Faithfull.

Hi Belbbmfan, I know of Ryan Adams, but I don't really know his songs and albums... I know he was a lot on tv and radio a couple of years ago... Coud you tell me a bit more about him?

Oh my goodness, how could I have forgotten?! I know your question was posed to Truman, Scott, but I hasten to add ABBA to my list as well!

I posted this in a thread called "Songs, Lyrics, and More Music", but I'll post it here too.

I've always liked to party and dance, and the music that did that for me back in the day was freestyle!

If ya don't remember freestyle (or never heard of it) it was a style of dance music that was latin based.....very electronic, and the beat was not driven by a bass drum, but by percussion type drums.

One of the better known freestyle acts (they crossed over to the pop charts as well) was Sweet Sensation.  Here are two of their performances, to give an example of freestyle.

Here is "Never Let You Go"

and here is "Sincerely Yours"

Tell him when l come up to him and ask to play the record, l'm gonna say: ''Voulez-vous jouer ce disque?''
'Voulez-vous, will you kiss my dick?'
Will you play my record? One-track mind!

Hmmm...music I like...how much time do you have?

I worked in a record store (remember those?) from 77 - 84 and was liked both punk and disco (go figure).  Mostly I like things that are interesting and don't get played to death.  John Cale, Can, Eno, Coil, Postal Service, David Allan Coe, Diamanda Galas, Kraftwerk, Harry Partch - that sort of thing.  Gustavo fit right into my musical taste.

I like music....so glad to see this. One of my favorite things to do is randomly find the most beautiful songs I can, and put them on a cd for someone......usually it's some artist no one has ever heard of, which is what makes it great. So here is a top ten list/play list.

Right now I am listening to Clap Your Hands Say Yeah.....and it's awesome!
