Have you heard there new on John and Fiona?

I saw them at t in the park bacjk in July - they headlined the main stage on the Friday night.

I like their music - but I wasn't totally impressed by the set - maybe an off day for them. They played this at the time and I thought it was all right but once you here it a few times you get hooked.

Hi there everybody!

I just wanted to remind all SF Bay area Brokies that Hardly/Strictly Bluegrass festival is this weekend.  Here's the lineup:

http://www.hardlystrictlybluegrass.com/

I'm headed out to see Robert Plant this afternoon and I'll be there on Sunday too.  Hope you all get to catch some of it - it's a great show (and free - how cool is that?).

I've been there in the past and have seen people from Richard & Teddy Thompson to Elvis Costello, T Bone Burnett, Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris.

ETA: if there is somewhere else that this should be posted here please feel free to do that!

That's great Katie, thanx for posting. One of the last songs that the band played Thursday nite was "Ohio" and I found that my children didn't know anything about what the song referred to. For those of you who are interested, there is a great site that tells all about it, and here it is:

http://www.thrasherswheat.org/fot/ohio.htm

Briefly, on May 4, 1970, soldiers came to the campus of Kent State University in Ohio and shot dead four students who were protesting the War in Vietnam. This was during my first year of college.
I was listening to a program about the 40th anniversary of this, and can you believe that most history text books leave this out completely? Shocking!!

 8)  8)  8)

On Saturday, April 24th, 2010, over thirty members of the Opera Company of Philadelphia Chorus and principal cast members from the upcoming production of LaTraviata converged on the Reading Terminal Market Italian Festival.  Wearing street clothes and blending in with the crowd, the artists swung into action as the first orchestral strains of the famed "Brindisi" were piped through the market, giving a rousing, surprise performance for hundreds of delighted onlookers who were there to enjoy the Italian delicacies and the everyday treats that the Reading Terminal Market has to offer.

How interesting! I hope there's a You Tube video of it! I heard something else about Reading, PA yesterday. Garrision Keillor was talking about the Reading Convention in Reading that a reference librarian was going to.

Jan Kuehnemund, Guitarist for All-Girl Metal Band Vixen, Dies at 51

10/11/2013 by Mick Stingley

Jan Kuehnemund, the founding member and lead guitarist for the all-female glam metal band Vixen, passed away on Thursday, Oct. 10, after a long battle with cancer. She was 51. An official statement has not been released.

Kuehnemund was born on Nov. 18, 1961, in St. Paul, Minn., and formed Vixen in high school. She and singer Janet Gardner moved the band to Los Angeles in 1985 and, within two years, the classic lineup was formed with Roxy Petrucci on drums and Share Pedersen on bass. The band was later signed to EMI.

Vixen's self-titled debut was released in 1988 and spawned two hit singles, "Cryin' " and "Edge of a Broken Heart." The group appeared in the Penelope Spheeris film, The Decline of Western Civilization II: The Metal Years, and its videos were featured heavily on MTV.

Drama for Madonna and her Rebel Heart.

Madonna has been working hard on her latest CD, Rebel Heart and working with a number of people in the music business.  Though the final details aren't released yet, a list of 22 possible collaborators has been compiled, and that list includes Avicii, Diplo, Nikki Minaj, Chance the Rapper, Mozella, Toby Gad, S1, Natalia Kills, Alicia Keyes, Miley Cyrus, and others.  Everything was carefully being kept under wraps, until a sneak attack happened.

A musical hack occurred, and 6 unfinished Madonna demos were released for the world to hear.  Madonna's record company moved as quickly as they could to get everything removed from the internet.  This prompted Madonna to release 6 songs to I-Tunes early, in an effort to stop further leaks, but another 6 songs were leaked at a later date.

Near the end of January, Israeli police and Cyber Crime unit arrested the man who hacked the computer that contained Madonna's music, and went further to say he had other artists' unreleased material on his computer as well.

How the leaks will affect Madonna's sales is unknown.

Rebel Heart's first single is "Living For Love".  The video was released this week, and the song climbs to #6 on the dance sales chart, becoming her 58th Top 10 dance track.
