Favorite, Suave or Unusual Cocktail Recipes
« on: September 05, 2007, 10:41:53 pm »

Hey Buds,

I thought a thread dedicated to sharing interesting, unique or crazy cocktail recipes and mixology tips might be fun.  For those of you who don't drink, feel free to contribute your favorite "virgin" recipes (or recipes without any alcohol) or fun smoothie recipes, soda fountain recipes, etc.

I'll start with my favorite whiskey recipe (not so crazy or unique... but it's definitely worth trying if you haven't already):

The good ol' Manhattan~ It's not too sweet and not too bitter.

<img src="http://www.divshare.com/img/1868367-aac.jpg" border="0" />

NGREDIENTS:

    * 1 1/4 oz bourbon whiskey
    * 1/2 oz sweet vermouth
    * 2-3 dashes Angostura bitters
    * maraschino cherry for garnish

PREPARATION:

   1. Pour the ingedients into a mixing glass with ice cubes.
   2. Stir well.
   3. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass.
   4. Garnish with the cherry.

Variations on the Manhattan:

    * Dry Manhattan- Use a dash of dry vermouth and garnish with a lemon twist.
    * Perfect Manhattan- Equal parts of sweet and dry vermouth. Garnish with a lemon twist.
    * Brandy Manhattan- Replace whiskey with brandy.
    * Scotch Manhattan- Replace whiskey with Scotch.
    * Southern Comfort Manhattan- Replace whiskey with Southern Comfort.

Great idea. I hope some people start posting. I do not drink much but keep a bottle of Grey Goose Vodka in the cupboard. It last for months and months on end. I usually just put some in snapple. How pathetic. So I have no recipes, unless that's a recipe.  :P

That's a recipe.

I myself like baileys, tia maria and chocolate milk - but I have no idea what this cocktail is called!

Our friend MaineWriter wrote this little drabble about a drink Ennis and I enjoy...

Ennis chuckled to himself as he typed on the keyboard, hunting and pecking in his one-finger typing style.

“What are you laughin at?” asked Jack, looking up from the couch where he was still deeply engrossed in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

“Oh nothing, just havin a lil bit a fun on this website.”

“What website?”

“Just one with recipes for drinks. Lots a comments here on this one called a Cosmopolitan. Sayin it’s a gay drink. I’m addin my two cents.”

“We ain’t ever had Cosmopolitans, En.”

“Yeah, well you better go buy the ingredients this afternoon cuz I just stated publicly that we like ta drink em. Sounds like ya can get good and snockered if ya have more than two of these.”

Jack got up and looked over Ennis’s shoulder. “Hm, lime juice, vodka, cranberry juice, Grand Marnier…we have all that in the house. I could make one right now.”

“Ya sure?”

“Sure, why not?”

“Well, see this other comment…they make ya horny.”

“Ya got a problem with that?” said Jack with a slow smile.

“Have I ever…?” said Ennis, as he got up from his chair.

     I am truly not a drinker , but i have two i like
     Smith and Kerns

      regulation size cocktail glass
      one oz Kahlua  depends on the size of glass or strength you want..
      one oz vodka   "
      three ozs club soda

    fill to top with half and half

       Just a plain old fashion Baileys and coffee.

        cup of good blend of coffee  (your fav)
        As much Baileys as you like to taste,

     top with whipped creme.

         great for cold winter nights.....

     Beautiful mind

It sounds like we definitely have some Baileys fans here.  I like it too... but in small doses.

So, I'm posting yet another whiskey recipe to keep the BBM theme going a bit...

Whiskey Sour...

<img src="http://www.divshare.com/img/1879119-fe4.jpg" border="0" />

1 1/2 ounces whiskey (or bourbon, Scotch, Canadian whiskey, or Irish whiskey)
4 ounces sour mix, recipe follows
Crushed ice
1 maraschino cherry

Combine the whiskey and sour mix in a large old-fashioned glass with ice. Stir, garnish with cherry, and serve.

Sour Mix:
1-ounce lemon juice
1-ounce sugar
2 ounces water

Combine lemon juice and sugar, then dilute with water and stir to dissolve sugar.

Yield: 4 ounces

OK!  Here goes:  this recipe is different from the usual sick-sweet cosmos one gets at most bars.  It's more tangy.  We'll have to ask Jack if it truly makes him horny.

Cosmo-Paul-itan

3 parts Stoly Cranberry
1 part Cointreau (or a little more if you like it sweeter)
1 part fresh lime juice
splash Pomegranate juice (could use cranberry juice; it's mostly for color)

Fill cocktail shaker with ice halfway
Add above ingredients
ShakeShakeShake!
Strain into chilled cocktail glass
Garnish with lime twist
Enjoy!
