Yes, Kerry!! Watched it every Saturday morning! I lived for cartoons. (And Tarzan and Shirley Temple movies.)
I used to go to the children's matinee every Saturday afternoon. The theatre was in Waterloo Street, Narrabeen. Only a short walk from my house. All the kids in the neighbourhood went.
The program was always very predictable:
* Start with a big, bright, colourful, Terry Toon cartoon. Very exciting! Might Mouse was my favourite. "Here I come to save the daaaaay!"
* Follow with a black and white serial. It was always very exciting and full of action - usually gangsters or cowboys & indians. By this time the kids were so over-excited, they'd be yelling and jumping up and down in the aisles, the usherettes with their torches trying to keep order!
* Intermission and all the kids would get tanked-up on lollies and soft drinks. As if they weren't manic enough already!
* After Intermission came the main feature, which was usually a bit of a let-down, following the excitement of the pre-Intermission program.
Looking back, the usherettes must have
hated those Saturday matinees!
