I had a preemptory revelation from my guardian angel, but actually drank no alcohol on my birthday. In fact, the bit of mead I had for Lughnasa the day before was about the first I had in a month.

For some reason I have been thinking about Mayonnaise a lot today.

My cousin Michel in Florida, who is very opinionated but a good person, thinks Man-aise shouldn't even exist, she won't even let it come in her house.

When I was in college my friend Johnny Puke proposed to have a punk bank called Mayonnaise Popsicle. But like most of his plans it never came to anything.

There is actually very little you can do with man-aise, put it on bread or a tortilla with some other stuff. When I was a kid I would have man-aise sandwiches which were just that. The strangest use of mayo I have seen is in conjunction with mashed potato's on hot dogs.

And large amounts of man-aise is out of the question in an situation. You also cannot mix man-aise with alcohol, particularly vodka. I have heard of mixing it with mustard and Worcestershire SASE to make a sauce however it seems that doing so just makes it a ticking time bomb of salmonella.

When I think of man-aise I think of a narrow window of opportunity that can slam shut quickly.

And it won't freeze.
