Sometimes I like songs, but I don't always necessarily read the lyrics which means I often miss the meaning of the song. So here is a place to post the words, the lyrics, to songs I find. If anyone else finds lyrics they like please post them here as well. I always like discovering new music and songs from other people. Who knows someone from here could end up being on the Singing Bee  and then we will know the words

OK, here's the first one, I am trying to go through many of my homemade CDs that I have made from either other CDs or ITunes or similiar places. This song is called "Ocean Avenue" by Yellowcard.

there are two songs that have lyrics that I love...but I don't know the name. I heard it when I was a kid...back in the early seventies or late sixties I think. There was a period in country music when they did a version of what we call rap these days...spoken words in a sing song voice.

They call me a poet
he has a way with words they say
but sometimes words, they're just not enough
like what is the word for the funny shaky feeling
I get when I see you?
Or the warm wonderful confusion when you touch me?

Thanks Snavel.......and the words to that song are great!!! I'm not sure if I have heard it or not, but I am going to try and find it. Gordon Lightfoot is very good. "If You Could Read My Mind" is one of my favorite all time songs and "Sundown" is another one I can think of.

Thanks for finding that Mel. Yes, it is a beautiful song. The song is definitely very Jack and Ennis. There are so many words within in that fit them perfect. It even talks about the wind.

Ok here is a song that means A LOT to me.


about 10 years ago, when I first came out, I went to see a friend at work.  She worked in a small boutique, and I went in.  She was alone, and could see I was nervous.  I told her I had just told my dad that I was gay, and it didn't go as well as I hoped.

On top of that, my mom told me that she had already told him I was gay (I came out to her the week before) because she was worried about his reaction.

This was all within the first few weeks of the new year, and had only told my friends that new year's eve/day.  She reached under the counter, and got a card.  She handed it to me, hugged me, and I left.  I got to my car, and let it warm up, and read the card.

In it she wrote about how special I was, how much she loved me, and that I would always have her and her husband to be there for me.

As I sat there reading and crying, this song came on the radio, and any time I hear it, it brings me back to that day.

Chuck, that is one of the most beautiful songs. I know it so well and I bet I have probably listened to it a million times. Celine Dion's music is very important to me, probably more so than any singer. It seems that she has always spoken the words I am feeling or said the things I want to say. To be in the position you were in and to have that song come on the radio while you were reading the letter, well that would just be truly something special. I can see where it would take you back to that day. It always amazes me how certain songs can take you back to times in your life.

No, unfortunately, I did not get to see it. You are right that it is ending and it may have already ended. I've never been to Vegas. Be sure to pick up her new cd "Taking Chances" It is very good as are all of her CDs even the French ones although I have no idea what she is saying.

So today I heard this song on the way to work. I looked it up and guess what it is by Tim McGraw too. Apparently, I like Tim McGraw although I already knew I did. There for awhile everytime I heard a song that I looked up it turned out to be an Alan Jackson song who I also like very much. Here are the lyrics to the song from this morning:

Richard the words to that song although very sad are beautiful. Thanks for posting them. I'm not sure I have ever heard the song, but I am going to look for it. And yes you are right we do learn and move on. Sometimes it's just not as easy to do as it sounds. But time does heal and good friends help a lot too. Tell Me I Was Dreaming

That's a great song.  Have you heard the full, 6.5-minute version of it?   The best part is the final chorus when he screams "Tell me I was DREEEEEEAMIIIIINNN'!" and then when he goes "oh-whoa-oh" right before "Tell me that you didn't say goodbye."  The final lines, "Don't tell me. . . you didn't say. . . goodbye," with the cry in his voice tear me up.  And I love the way he says "hawm" instead of "home." 

Man, I love Travis Tritt, though I haven't been keeping up with him much in the last few years.  He's good.  Some of his stuff can get you all rowdy and riled up and ready for some $hit kicking; then some of his stuff can break your heart and make you cry.  Brings back a lot of memories. 

Have you heard "Anymore" by him?  It's one of my all-time favorite songs.  I associate it with "Tell Me I Was Dreaming" because the videos for those two and for "If I Lost You" are a trilogy about a paralyzed war vet.

This is a classic.  I'm so hip and cool  , I often have disdain for ubiquitous, overplayed songs.  This one probably falls into that catergory, but I never get tired of it.  It's the old "better to have loved and lost than never to have loved at all."  Strong and somewhat happy yet incredibly sad at the same time. 

I remember hearing Garth Brooks tells about the first time he heard it.  It was at a song showcase, and Tony Arata, the song's writer, performed it.  When Tony finished it, Garth said he was blown away and that he looked around the room to see if anyone else had the same reaction.  I may have some of the facts wrong, but that's the gist of the story. 

A day or two after Heath died, I was listening to BbM radio while at work.  I heard the first few piano notes of this song, and I almost lost it.  I was cussing Eric.   

Onliest thing, I think it would have been stronger for Garth to have ended his version with his singing the final line, "But I'd a had to miss. . .the dance," and having it end right there with a slight echo effect, rather than have the piano and strings and guitar start up and play out.  I've tried unsuccessfully to do such an edit on my music software.  The piano kicks in so soon after the last line that I can't seem to manage it.  Guess I should have paid more attention in my recording classes at school.

Chuck, that is one of the most beautiful songs. I know it so well and I bet I have probably listened to it a million times. Celine Dion's music is very important to me, probably more so than any singer.

I'm not a huge Celine fan.  Frankly, some of her stuff gets on my nerves or makes me cringe.  But I give her credit for her voice and performance.  I liked "My Heart Will Go On" the first million times I heard it, even though I think its lyrics are bad.  Her performance made the song. 

Have you heard her version of "God Bless America" from the September 11 benefit/tribute?  It chills me and makes me cry.  I loathe hyperbole, but I can't imagine anyone has or ever will do a better version of that song. 

All that said, she did a song that is another of my all-time favorites, "If You Asked Me To".

I'm not sure why, but it is definitely true. I guess the person you love is in your mind all the time so the slightest thing makes you think about them. That can even be true with things like movies or tv shows. Suddenly sad endings or even happy endings make you start thinking about them.
