When You Find Yourself by Brad Paisley

When you find yourself
In some far off place
And it causes you to rethink some things

You're becoming someone else
And then you find yourself

When you make new friends in a brand new town
And you start to think about settlin' down
The things that would have been lost on you
Are now clear as a bell
And you find yourself
Yeah that's when you find yourself

Where you go through life
So sure of where you’re headin'
And you wind up lost and it's
The best thing that could have happened
‘Cause sometimes when you lose your way it's really just as well
Because you find yourself
Yeah that’s when you find yourself

When you meet the one
That you've been waitin' for
And she's everything that you want and more
You look at her and you finally start to live for some one else
And then you find yourself
That’s when you find yourself

When we go through life
So sure of where we're headin'
And we wind up lost and it's
The best thing that could have happened
‘Cause sometimes when you lose your way it's really just as well
Because you find yourself
Yeah that's when you find yourself
Life is not a dress rehearsal

Retrospective Survey 2007

1. What did you do in 2007 that you’d never done before?

May/June:  I went to Denver, other parts of Colorado, lots of Wyoming, a tiny piece of Montana. I had never been anywhere that far from home and I had never flown that far on a plane. This was my first trip to the West.

June/July:  I went to New York City by myself and had an absolutely wonderful time.

September:  I finally made it to California which fulfilled a life long dream. I went to San Francisco and I absolutely love it out there.

May – December:  I became a big part of BetterMost where I have met many lifelong friends.

December: I finally got my masters degree in information security/computer forensics.

2. Did you keep your New Years’ resolutions, and will you make more for next year?

I don’t really remember making any, but if I had I would say I accomplished them. It has been the best year I have had in a very long time.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Not yet.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

No, but like someone else said I don't want to jinx something like that.

5. What countries did you visit?

Many parts of the United States.

6. What would you like to have in 2008 that you lacked in 2007?

A true relationship would be nice and a job that I actually like which pays more money so I can travel more.

7. What date from 2007 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?

May 29 – June 4: My trip to Colorado and Wyoming
June 28 – July 3: My trip to New York City
September 14 – September 18: My trip to California and San Francisco

They will stay etched in my memory because they were all firsts and all great.

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Taking chances by going on trips and getting my masters degree. Also made progress in getting in better shape by staying up with exercise pretty much.

9. What was your biggest failure?

Still question my choices and decisions too much and still stuck in my dead end dull job.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

No, none yet, but again I don't like to jinx things.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

A new laptop and trips.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

All the people who I have met this year.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

I wouldn’t say appalled, but maybe depressed that the guy I thought things would develop with went another year without anything progressing. It’s depressing to see someone you wanted to be with so much go more stagnant.

14. Where did most of your money go?

My trips, but they were well worth the cost.

15.What made you really really really excited?

Once again it would have to be my trips plus meeting new friends.

16.What song will forever remind you of 2007?

Because of You by Reba McEntire and Kelly Clarkson. My soundtrack song from California.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:

a) happier or sadder?  Happier
b) thinner or fatter?   Same
c) richer or poorer?  Same

18. What do you wish you’d done more of?

Enjoyed each day more.

19. What do you wish you’d done less of?

Getting down on myself and/or feeling depressed.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?

With my parents off and on.

21. How will you be spending New Year's?

Probably doing nothing as usual, watching TV and going to bed. And maybe spend some time here.

22. Did you fall in love in 2007?

Very briefly, but was too involved with my dead end romance to make anything else work at the time.

23. How many one-night stands?

None really or at least it wasn't supposed to be.

24. What were your favorite TV programs?

The Amazing Race, Survivor, Two and A Half Men, Big Bang Theory, Journeyman, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Jericho, Ghost Whisperer, Cold Case.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn’t hate this time last year?

I think hate is stupid. It is more productive to try to find a way to like someone.

26. What was the best book you read?

102 Minutes.

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?

Several new country singers and bands.

28. What did you want and get?

I had wanted to spend time in New York City and I finally got to. I had a lifelong dream of visiting California and I did. Now I want to see both places again.

29. What did you want and not get?

For the “relationship” I have been in to finally get off the ground. I just about gave up on it.

30. What was your favorite film of this year?

Not sure.

31. What did you do on your birthday, and how old were you?

Nothing really, very small birthday party with family where I turned 11.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2007:

To never take anyone’s word without figuring out first if they are telling you the truth especially when those words are directed at friends. To always make sure to never turn your back on friends since it is better to try to understand them and/or the situation.

40. Quote a song lyric (any song, any year) that sums up your year:

“But what do you say to taking chances,
What do you say to jumping off the edge?
Never knowing if there's solid ground below
Or hand to hold, or hell to pay,
What do you say,
What do you say?”

40. Quote a song lyric (any song, any year) that sums up your year:

Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding:

Sittin' in the mornin' sun,
I'll be sittin' when the evenin' come.
Watching the ships roll in,
Then I'll watch 'em roll away again.

Yeah, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay,
Watching the tide roll away.
Ooh, I'm just sittin' on the dock of the day,
Wastin' time.

I left my home in Georgia Tennessee,
Headed for the Frisco bay.
I have nothing to live for,
Look like nothin's gonna come my way.

So I'm just gonna sit on the dock of the bay,
Watching the tide roll away.
Ooh, I'm sittin' on the dock of the day,
Wastin' time.

Look like nothing's gonna change
Everything still remains the same
I can't do what ten people tell me to do
So I guess I'll remain the same.

Just sittin' here resting my bones,
And this loneliness won't leave me alone.
Two thousand miles I roam,
Just to make this dock my home.

Now I'm just gonna sit at the dock of the bay,
Watchin' the tide roll away.
Ooh, I'm sittin' on the dock of the bay,
Wastin' time.
"Laß sein. Laß sein."
