What a day yesterday was!
Saturday started out with a very nice breakfast visit with Pete Tannen and his partner. They had also been to Philly and met Jeff Wrangler too!
YAA BROKIES!
It was a good thing I wore my uniform to meet them. Because when I left, there was a HUGE traffic jam on the interstate highway! D'oh!
I sat for over 40 minutes stuck in traffic, then when it cleared I had to drive 90 mph to get to work in time. OK, it was actually a little faster than that, but we get a break from the Police if we get stopped when late. Fortunately I didn't get stopped. LOL.
I like Saturdays at the Airport. It is usually a slower travel day, so you aren't as hectic as the rest of the week. BUT no sooner did I get there when we had some excitement.
A girl working on the next xray over spots a loaded gun in a carry on bag. First she makes sure its not a test. nope, not a test. She calls for the Supervisor who calls for the State Police.
"Sir? do you have weapon in your bag?"
"Yes, is that a problem? I gun have a permit."
By then about 5 more Policemen showed up, plus 3 more of my bosses. The man was handcuffed and arrested right there on the spot in front of everyone.
Needless to say, he missed his plane. He'll most likely lose that gun permit too. He will get a HUGE fine from the Feds, plus go to court here for sentencing. What an idiot. I hope the judge throws the book at him. Not only did he try to bring a gun on a plane, it was a LOADED gun.
This was a normal looking guy. White, approx 40 yrs old, well groomed, casual clothes. Nothing that would have profiled him as a threat. THAT is why everyone gets screened the same way. You just don't know who the nutcases are going to be.
A little old lady was with her husband watching the man get handcuffed and led away. She walked over to me and said: "That man had something very bad in his bag didn't he?" I told her "Yes, but as you can see we caught him." She said "He won't be on our flight will he?" I said "No Mam, rest assured he will not."
She put one hand on my arm and said "Oh thank you all for being here. This is all worth it!"
Now THAT is what makes my day.
