Hey, David,

Thanks!

So the bottle of allergy pills, the little bottle of Tylenol, the vitamins, and the Viagra--NOT! --can be packed in their own bag? They don't have to be included in the one-quart bag with the mini tube of toothpaste, the mini antiperspirant, the cologne, and the mustache wax?  ;D

You got it!

Oh,  and the little bottle of poppers must be in your quart sized bag too!   LOL.

And yes, we've had people try to hide them in their carry on bags!

30 degrees this morning and yet more bad weather is predicted! A winter storm warning is is effect, with 2 to 4 inches of snow predicted near me, and 5 to 10 inches inland. This is truly the winter that has gone on forever. As Tony said last night at dinner, we had more spring weather in December than we are having now.

Ack!

L

<looks out window and sees a dry road>

PHEW!     So far, so good!    We were supposed to get snow today as well.   Then they said just heavy rain.   But now it looks clear so far.

Yesterday was a mess at the airport.  The Snow in Chicago caused major delays everywhere.     I was eating lunch in the terminal waiting area when they announced that the Chicago flights were cancelled and the next flight was in 5 hours.  They recommended going home instead of rebooking because all the flights for the next two weeks were sold out due to the School vacations.    The lady sitting next to me made a face at the announcement.   I asked her if she was supposed to be going to Chicago.   She said:"No, I'm going to Washington DC thankgoodness".   Well, she no sooner finished saying that when the same United employee anounced:" And those of you going to Washington DC are in no better shape.  The plane taking you there was coming in from chicago".      You could hear a collective groan from the entire concourse.      I told the woman "Good luck", grabbed my lunch bag and ran before it got real ugly.    LOL.

Of course most of the people did go back to the ticket counters and tried to rebooked for later flights.   The ones that succeeded had to come thru security again, and by then they were twice as grumpy as the first time thru.

And for some reason, I don't feel that I make (many) frivolous posts - why is that?

Must be cause I got me some practice gabbin in (private) chat rooms with some master chatters before I started my climb. Also, I don't mind people seein me comin. I'm up for hours before you usually post yer top 10 and have never posted 'nothin' posts at the last minute before the picture gets taken.

Take me as I am - a pain sometimes, but an honest one!

Hi Jeff!

The 3-1-1 rule is for liquids Gels and aerosols.

3.4 ounces is the maximum per item.

You can have as many 3.4 ounce items as will fit in a clear, quart sized, zip lock baggy.

One quart sized bag per person.

We use 3.4 oz as it is the same as 100 Millileters which is a common travel size.

Medication in tablet or pill form is not restricted in any quantity.

Liquid medication is allowed in sizes over the 3.4 ounce limit as long as the amount is reasonable for the itinerary of the person.

Oh!  and be sure to pull out your quart sized zip lock bag and place it into one of the gray divesting bins.    If you leave it in your bag,  they'll see it on the xray screen and call for a bag check.

Lap top computers must also be removed from their carry case and placed into a gray bin by themselves.

Be prepared to take off your shoes.   so wear clean socks!    LOL.

Ahhh, David, it's so useful to have an expert handy  :).

All those restrictions are only for carry-on baggage, aren't they? In my suitcase I can put liquids and medikaments however I want?

quart sized zip lock bag

Does this mean the size is a quarter of a gallon? This would be 0,9 Liter.
Does the bag have to have a zip log? They are very uncommon here. Or is any see-though little plastic bag suitable?

Thanks in advance  :-*

Chrissi,

Tell ya what, I'll mail you a couple of one quart ziplock bags and then you'll be all set. And that way a little bit of me will be with you on your trip to Colorado, since I can't be there in person!

And yes, the restrictions are for carry on baggage. Remember, I brought the nice bottle of wine home that Kerstin gave me (thanks, Kerstin!) in my regular suitcase.

Yes, a quarter of a gallon.  Although I'd imagine a liter sized bag would probably be hardly noticeable.

It doesn't need to be a "Zip lock" bag, but a "Resealable" bag.    And you are right, these rules are for "Carry-on" items.   You can put all your oversized toiletries in your checked baggage.

The only thing you need to be careful of in Checked baggage (cary-on too) are flammable aerosols.   No cigarette lighters either.   You can bring safety matches, but not the "Strike anywhere" type.

Awww, Leslie, that would be so nice of you. David's answer already brung up new questions for me (resealable bag  ??? The bags that I have in mind are not sealable at all. I always put a clip around them when I want them sealed).
But thanks to you, I don't have to grow more grey hair about that  :D.
This will be some far-travelled plastic bags !

Sure enough. I should have known. (And I knew, but wasn't sure for a moment.)

No cigarette lighters in my suitcase  :o ? That's completetly new to me. Thank you.
Are safety matches ok for the carry-on luggage?

So I think I will better carry my asthma-aerosol in one of those quart zip-locked plastic bags. They are less than 100 milliliter anyway.

Jeez! Who would have thought travelling to the US will be so complicated? I think I have to start to get informed soon. I'll check out the US embassy page. I've already seen that they provide information, only haven't checked it yet.

Yup, no flammables allowed.  You can have the safety matches in your carry-on bag.    The reason being safety matches cannot light themselves by mistake.   Plus you can smell them if anyone tries to light one.    You can't smell a lighter when lit.

Smoking isn't allowed on any flights, so there is no reason to smell a lit match.     That is how they caught Richard Reid.  He was using a match to light the fuse on his shoe bomb.    That's why we x-ray all shoes now too.
