I can remember back in the day, my father wouldn't let us turn up the heat in the morning if everyone was leaving for school or work.   He'd go down to the kitchen and turn on the oven and leave the oven door open to warm just the kitchen.

Shit. That's hard.

Fabienne, with these mittens and this cap Leslie will match her guest of honour tomorrow, sartorial-wise  ;D
Now we only need a matching sweater .... lemmie see .....

Got it!  :)

Leslie, now you're all set!  :)
(*ducks and runs* before I get strangled with the sweater )

My guest of honor, before I let him get into his favorite striped socks, is going to have a bit of a chit chat with me about some of his alleged extracurricular activities (see the HHH thread for more details, for those who do not know what I am talking about).

Brr!  indeed!      I can remember back in the day, my father wouldn't let us turn up the heat in the morning if everyone was leaving for school or work.   He'd go down to the kitchen and turn on the oven and leave the oven door open to warm just the kitchen.

Myself on the otherhand,  I'll spend my last dollar on heat if I have too.  I hate a cold house.

My grandmother used to do that--turn the oven on full blast and leave the door open. Given what electricity costs nowadays, it probably wasn't such a cost-saving method of heating! LOL

I think back on how my parents used to keep the thermostat at 72 and there wasn't a flake of insulation in the walls. Times have changed in that regard!

She is an English writer from the 1800s.  Not as well known as Dickens or others, but she oughta be IMO.  Two of her books that have been adapted to movies include: North and South and Wives and Daughters.  Excellent movies too!  :)

Milli, I like Elizabeth Gaskell, too.  Some time ago, I read a number of her novels and thought they were really absorbing.  She made the women of her time come alive.  Thanks for the mention.  8)

Not only did she make the women of her time come alive as you said, but she also painted a detailed portrait of the different classes of her time and exposed the huge gap between the upper classes and the poorer than poor who died of hunger on the streets .. I believe she was branded a communist at some point..  :)

If you haven't already seen the BBC adaptation of the books I mentioned, do.  I am sure you'll love 'em.

Thanks for the info Milli. I have to admit I've never heard of her. But I'll add her to my reading list. It's the kind of novel I'm interested in. I'm reading Persuasion by Jane Austen at the moment.

Wrap up warm okay?  :)

It's december 6th. And it looks like my kids have been good this year. It's Saint Nicolas day today and when they got up this morning this was waiting for them along with a new board game and some other toys.
