boy, Jack actually looks ugly in that picture. I didn't think it was possible!
G'morning Les!

Yeah, that is a real goofy pic of Jack.  LOL.    That darn Pornstache doesn't help either.

I was looking thru the screencaps for good pics of Ennis when he was the oldest.   Geez, he was pretty damn weather beaten and worn out looking.  He really only looked good when his face lit up, like when Ma Twist was taking to him.

Both he and Jack did age alot.   Neither has that fresh young man look about them anymore.   Even Ennis's Cowboy hat has lost its upturned sides.   It has losts its "perk" and gone flat.   Kinda like Ennis.   Age has worn him down just like his hat.  Tis no wonder that he can't "stand" it any more.

Now Jack still wears a new Cowboy hat with upturned sides.   Does this symbolize Jack still has "Hope" and optimism?    It doesn't show in his face, but maybe the hat symbolizes that he can put on a good face about his failures.

And at the end, Ennis's hair looks so dry, like straw. All the little curls of his youth are completely gone.

 :(

David, I must respectfully disagree with you about this!  ;) At that point in the movie, I always wonder why I see so few 39-year-olds -- or for that matter, 29-year-olds or 19-year-olds -- who look that good.

I was more referring to his "look" as to compared to the younger Ennis in the movie.   The 39 yr old Ennis looks tired.  And I'm sure Ang wanted it that way.   He walks like an old man dragging his feet in the trailer.

When he smiles, his face lights up and you see that ol' twinkle in his eye like when he was with Jack.    Ennis needs Alma Junior to take him into Riverton for a decent haircut and a new Cowboy hat!       ;D

seems pretty clear here...
