Heh. Seems we paid too little attention to the chenanigans of other diners. Good thing we have the photos to remedy that!  ;D

Chrissi, I brought the flags from home. Constitution Day, May 17, is a honking big deal for Norwegians. I've never been away from home on a May 17 before. I just had to do some little thing to mark the day.  :)

I've loved these photos.  Wonderful.  And I sure did recognize the Chee family sign as Hillermanesque.  I thought "Hillerman!" when I saw the photo of Meryl standing next to the Shiprock sign.

Oh! Well then I bet you'll understand why we took these pictures too:

Oh, I'm sure they must a. The community of people who write novels about the American west isn't all that big.

I'm thinking they might have known each other, too. I'm reading Hillerman's autobiography at the moment - he comes across just like one would expect from his novels: A decent, kind-hearted, down-to-earth guy with a keen eye for observing people and places, a love of the land and much care and compassion for its everyday people. Just the type of person I figure Larry McMurtry would have thoroughly appreciated.

It's such a pity there hasn't ever been a decent, honest attempt to make a movie out of any of Hillerman's books. I mean, the landscapes alone would be worth the price of admission for those viewers not overly keen on having to deal with Navajo customs and beliefs.... (and brush arbours!  ;) )

Wow, this is so cool!  8) I did know there were some celebrations outside of Norway, but had no idea about the Seattle one. They really do make a full day of it too! Thank you so much for posting that.   :) :) :)
