Any Younger fans
« on: January 05, 2008, 10:55:24 am »
Hey,

I was wondering if there are any younger fans of Brokeback Mountain, I'm 19 m , and i haven't been able to find anyone around my age who actually likes the film, Let alone understand it. No offence to the older generation.
I'm just curious. I'd love to hear a younger perspective of the film.

None of my friends like it, There all pretty Narrow minded and didn't like the movie cause it wasn't what they expected.

Is there any out there. It would be really sad if i was the only one. I hope i ain't.

Thanks

No, I don't see it as pure fiction, I see it as it is. I see what people in that movie go thorough and i take what mistakes or decisions theymake and interpret them into my own life. I relate to the movie because when i first seen it a 17 i hadn't done what they had done. I hadn't fell in love with a men.

Before i seen the film, i didn't even consider myself gay or bi. I had fantasy's. but i never made anything from it. After i seen this movie i realised a few things.
-Its possible to fall in love with a man and its okay.
-That if that opportunity presents it self i will take it by the balls and fight for it. Not being a Ennis.
-That the world hasn't changed that much and might never, but why dictate you life like that.

So i took this and made some decisions i came to regret.

I fell in love with my best friend. We were allways weird. As in we use to hug, hold hands while we sat next to eachother - hiding it from everyone else. For what reason i had no idea. We use to wrestle and things would get pretty sexual - I mean playing with others nipples and massaging each other. These things happen in between us being 14-17.
After the movie i fell in love with him. Three mouths later we went down to our local river - five miles from anyone - Our own Brokeback Mountain. We got drunk as we allways did. Than he became weird, told me we had to go further into the bush because people were coming. When we got there he told me "If i was ever going to explore my sexuality. I'd do it with you" So i told him the same. We had our first drunken outburst of sex.
After that things were weird. But a week later, he told me it was our little secret and he'd like to keep doing it. I told him i loved him. He told me the same. Than we had many similar moments like The Second Tent Scene.

I'm more of a optimistic Jack, no fear no regrets and allways dreaming of a better life. Around my friends I'm like that. Around others I'm like Ennis. He was very similar to jack to. Except he feared the world because of his parents. They were very Conservative. I MEAN VERY.

But we continued to maintain our secret relationship for six months. Than one day we got to confident and got caught in his room by his sister. When i say caught i literally mean pants down.

She told everyone, At first it wasn't to bad. it was like noting changed. we kept denying it. But little did i know what he was going through at home. So one day we made this plan to run away and find our own little place in the world that was right for us. I.E Denver.

We planned to leave Friday, two days before, i was walking home after a really fun night in the bush. And a crowd of boys approached me. They beat me, put me in hospital. Smashed face, Broken kidneys and a scull fracture. He never visited me when i was in hospital,

When i got out, he had left. his family wouldn't tell me where he was. and i still dint know. Its been Nealy a year since i heard anything. None of that was nothing compared to the broken heart i suffered from now.

So i blamed the movie. If i hadn't seen the movie it would have never lead me to make the decisions i made.
I went Neall a year without seeing it. One day i had a dream about Jack and Ennis. So i brought it. Didn't affect me the same way. But it was still Amazing.

I don't think guys my age dislike the film because they haven't experienced some of the stuff in that film. When your a teenager you experience life so intensely. Even more than when you mature.

I liked the film in general, Everything about it is great. One thing that i love the most is The Second Tent Scene, It reminds me of a world that seems so far gone.

P.S - He seen the movie also, I remember the night so clearly, He looked at said in these teary eyes. "It's not there fault, You cant help who you fall in love with"

No you cant, Love is possible only if you can see how real it is.

I experienced more of the movie than i would care to remember.  :(

Scissorhandsraineyluv -- over on IMDb -- is your age. (Well, she's close; maybe 18) She has some of the best posts about the movie -- very mature and meaningful. I don't think she's a member here, but maybe you could talk her into it.  ;)

Has anyone heard from Becky lately?  She was a major contributor here at BetterMost for a long time, especially in the early days of the site and she's also a teenager.  But, I think her activity here has seriously fallen off recently.

I haven't heard from Becky in a while but there are quite a few people near your age who are BetterMostians. One who has a blog on "Our Daily Thoughts" is Rebel With A Smile. He changed his name recently...he used to be Rebel With Sadness. His blog is called I Only Miss You on Weekends. There are several others, including a young woman in California who is 17, Kay-Nasty. I'll do some research...Welcome, melb_boy88!! My daughter is also 19, and she is the one who took me to see the movie way back when.

Thanks "Nutmeg Guy" and "Injest"

<Melb_boy88, takes the hug gladly and is thankfull someone cares> :P

It's allright now, i live in the same town. After months of "Emotional" agony and "Community" Torment.
I found a girlfriend. I slowly conformed back into society. It's not really that i have no feelings for her and I'm passionate about our relationship. It's a easy way to make my community accept who i am without the torment. I wont allow things to get out of hand or to serious. I don't want to hurt her. She was around when all that stuff happened, so i believe she all ready knows...
But she tries to break the Vail that i put up and gets hurt in her attempts. The thing that seems to hurt me most id it's like she's becoming a "Cassie" She's getting hurt and i have no way of stopping that.
So i have a decision to make. Is her pain a sacrifice worth while, as i use her as my veil to blend into society. Or am i being selfish and stop her pain from continuing. Or is it to late.

One thing for sure, Some where my Ennis is hiding from me. And I'd whip babies to see him again.
I wonder why he left? Thats the thing i cant seem to work out.

I have to agree with nutmeg_guy that it is very important for you to tell the truth, the whole truth, to your female friend. She has a whole life before her, as do you, and it is important for you to be honest with her. Do not think that you are going to lose a friend. You may be surprised. And keep in mind that friendships are a lot more important than you might think. Even more important than trying to preserve appearances, or than having a few moments of intimacy.

Thanks very much melb_boy88! Thanks Front-Ranger!

Melb: Front-Ranger mentions good advise... be careful for her (girl you befriend), for you too!!

As you see, many Bettermost members help in wondrous ways.

Are you now living alone on you own? Or with your parents? Or? May I ask? Or better still, are you now with a gay buddy or know of a gay guy in your area, especially your age?

Did you find a gay guy or girl here yet on Bettermost your age? Started to communicate with that/those person(s)??

If you have any question or otherwise, don't by shy,

hugs!   Gay joys to you and to all everyday!!

I live with my Mum and Stepped, My mum has a strange way of undermining my intelligence. She's a good Mum to the public. The kind that use t say. "It's okay to be gay, I'd just be very disappointed." Than as a 12 year old I'd look at her funny. She say "Your not though, thank god for that"
My stepped looks down on me. It's as if he pities me. I'm a complete fuck up that he loves seeing the back of.
They are both the type that wont see Brokeback Mountain because its about "Gay Cowboys" Noting more, Nothing less.
(Actually i seen the film because of my Nan) - Thats Ironic.

Na, i haven't got a "Gay Buddy"

Actually there is this kid whose clearly flirting with me. But his only 15  :-\

NOWAY, Gay is a unspoken word in my town. The last Gay guys i knew left town. Years ago..........

Your life is indeed very colourful!! Guess, we gay guys are all different as some straights and gays say!!

You say that it is your grand-mother who presented the film BM to you?

You are now 19? You are at school or have a job?

Be assured that I am always happy with your comments, questions, etc.,

hugs!! Keep on writing as that helps us all gays and straights and others too!! May I suggest... to you!!

Yeah, She heard about it through the grape vine, asked me to drive her to a bigger town to see it. So i did. We had to keep it secret from my family but it was fun. I remember feeling incompatible watching it with her. So i missed a lot. But certain scene affected me. So i went again and seen it. Brokeback Mountain got me good.

19, Have a job, My parents want me to go to college, A long way from home. But I'm pretty arrogant.

My main priority in life is to find "Aaron"   :P :-\ :'(

I think a lot of us can understand that..........

Thanks melb_boy88!!

This is my 2nd effort to reply to you. My first was long and suddenly the internet stopped!!

So this is short. And further replies to you, will be later on during the day or night, ok??

1. I find that you are lucky having such a grand-mother!! She cares for you!!

2. Of course, you went a second time alone to see the BM movie!! It does catalyse all persons, even straights, bi-s, gays and others!! It did to me and still does wonders, even for others issues like female ones and children and peace... for me, plus for gay thoughts or ways, etc. which I like especially since I am a gay man!!

3. Tell me about kind of job you have and if you like that or want that long time? Why not college? May I ask?

Hugs!!

Jobs, I have two. I work at a local shop every now and again. Which i dont like to much. To much interaction with the towns locals.  :-\

I also work with my dad on at his mechanics business. He owns the shop so people have to like me.  ;D
I know nothing about cars. That's the way i like it. I just work in the office filling papers and phones calls. It not that fantastic. But i get paid good.

College - My mum told me she wanted to go to college in Australia. That's where some of her family are. But there is no way in hell I'm going that far away. So i'm currently putting the issue of. Avoidance!  ::)

I'm stuck at a point where i don't know what i want or what i need. Literally  ;D

Well, I'm 23. I know it is 4 years older. But still closer right? Although I probably am not as well versed in BBM as some. However, I do think I was an Ennis myself at one point, like I said before.

I've actually got to the point where i donut know where he is, I don't want to hear why he left or where his been. I'm moving on and this has been a long time in coming. So for all i care he can do what ever the fuck he wants.   >:( :o ::) ;D

Actually, I'm in the process of learning the flirting thing, Its not as simply as walking up to someone and asking them if there interested. Its all about the eyes. The way you look at them and the way you move. You have to be masculine but friendly. You have to play but not come on to quick. You have to be carefull. It all takes time. Theres this kid who hangs around. his young. 15, I think it to young. Nut he gives you those eyes. He stares like his interested and he plays like he wants more.
For a 15 year old his better than me at this game. I having fun teasing it at the moment. But I'm not going to rush it or jeopardize my self. Its fun at the moment. I suppose it good to just know someones interested. Well i don't know but i think.

What are your talents and/or interests?? You are creating poems lately??

Yeah, I love writing, I entered a Script into a Scriptwriting compition a couple years ago, and i got second. I like writing. So i think thats where I'm going.  ;D

You sure write interesting subjects and details!!

Maybe you are the next Annie!!

Yes, it is hard to step away from one's first crush! Guess, we (or many do) all take turn doing that! And try to find others for friendship, relationtionship possibly, etc.; even for lust too maybe!! Right, 15 is too young!! You will find someone your age, and that might be more rewarding!!

Since you have an interest in script writing, are you thinking of entering such a school??

More news?

It's nothing big, and i don't want it to be. I'm just enjoying the attention, One day he'll be at the same point i am. I also feel a lot of Empathy for him. His a confident kid, And he flirts with guys. He never flirts with girls. It just scares the shit out of me that he could get to brave with the wrong person. I don't want him to experience some of the things I've experienced. The love side. I hope he gets that. But can you imagine what a a town like mine could do to this boy. :o :o :o :o :o

So flirting with me is a good thing, I wont allow it to go further. But i want to in the same way take him under my wing. Showing him how to survive. :'(

He reminds me of what i was like at his age (Before i was "bashed") If something like that happens to him it could destroy him. It nearly did me.

I'm on a mission.............

Since you have an interest in script writing, are you thinking of entering such a school??

na, I'd like to enter a more broader range of writing. Not just scripts. I'm writing a script ATM. Its a gay love story between to teens. That get torn apart. But years later meet back up only to realise that the world is a lot more evil that they imagined.
So it's about them defying Societies Conformity's. Finding a place to Love each over.

But i haven't worked on it in a while. I'm having trouble concentrate.  :-\

To much stuff stuck in this stuffed ducks mind.  ::)

Hugs!!

I spent  a good amount of time on it after i wrote my MSG to you, I was writing the reunion scene which was sad/good to write. Its so interesting, I have this list of characteristics so i can into there lives and understand my characters, In a way i spend a large amount of time acting like them. So that part in many ways is hard. Its gets pretty emotional to causes the pain i have to. I get hurt at the same time.

Melb may I say, brokeplex's present buddy is D.L. and maybe you do not know that Chris was his former one but he has past away. The stories of both of his buddies are very interesting and helped me!! Maybe you would be interested in those too??

This confuses me, i dont know what you mean?  ???

So far, you give clues to better life as gay youth in your story?

Yes, they do make different decisions in life that i would have made. That's because they are fictional characters and have nothing to do with my life.

Better - No, I dont think there story is better. Its heartbreaking, I'm beginning to believe there is no such thing as a happy gay ending. Most of the stories i hear about are devastating. People who have made mistakes, been used or been killed.
So i'm not going to make my story happy, I'd be lying if that's what i wrote/felt. I want this story to come from my heart. So it needs to be full of Melancholy and delirium. But have such great moments of Love.

Also, Society needs to change, Its not happening yet, People are still prejudice. Some countries still kill homosexuals. Some countries put them away forever. Almost every continent have a Gay related hate crime every hour, I think. Some one is called a "Faggot" in a school yard every minute school is on. Nothing is changing.

Annie Proulx wrote a story about "The destructive effects of rural homophobia" One year later. 30 minutes from her house. Matthew Shepard was brutally tortured, left on a french to die, Like he was a warning of what happens to his kind in Wyoming. He died because to "Boys" who weren't on drugs, Seduced him to rob him, which they only got twenty dollers.

This is what happens to our kind, i learnt that a 10. I was reminded of that a 17. Society needs to learn and change. So they need to be continuily remind of "The destructive effects of rural homophobia" But they need to learn also this stems from parents and there ideals. The nonacceptance for change. The ignorance, There fear.

Happiness is something me and my characters will find in societies change of there conformities. What i fear is that will be never.....

Thanks melb!

I like your ideas and ideal about your story. And about your life.

Would it somehow be better to end your story with happiness by a gay man or gay men... or some at least?? The reason for that is like you said, endings are sad like the murder of a gay man because he was a gay man! We gay men need happy endings too, I say!

There are some happy gay men... and those lives need to be written about, surely! Maybe you could find out some such happy stories, and include that or those in your sad ending, as mutilple endings?? At least in the core of the story??

And since you are 19, get to know such stories as yours too?? Including yours, certainly in your present life and just before??

Much can be done, right?

Hugs!

Yes, i believe we deserve a happy ending, And i have considered doing that in my story. But sometimes i just cant see to see how i can do this.
I see happiness, but i dont feel it, i want to have it, but it's to far gone.....

I want my story to be happy, i want to show people that even though there's so much hate. There is happiness in the most pures form. It's delicate, yet fragile. Unknowable, yet sort after..........

What i want my story to do, When i was 11, Society was forced to evaluate the current conformity's and look at what we have become. Then at 17, Brokeback did it again.

Slowly but surely we are making progress, I want my story to kick society back in the guts. where it hurts.

Again, I just dont see the light where the light should be...............
Don’t lie, don’t try to fool me, Ennis. I know what it means. Jack Twist? Jack Nasty.

Thanks melb!

Light is and  can be always more fascinating than darkness. Here, mother always prefers and enjoys more a sunny day!! She is right!!

There is always light which can be more and more, as it is there to be captured and to be INCREASED if you want, but too darkness is  in everyone's life and even in nature as tempests!
Note and see tempests as well as tranquility landscapes in the paintings I created?? Both usually there in the SAME painting!!

The duality is in every person, I find!! That is what makes it interesting, but to what degree... that depends on many factors, Some factors you mentioned, and others you will discover more and more, just like you are discovery light(s) as happiness in many ways like work, like courage, etc., which are beneficials to living amiably!! Your composing, writing, helps you and I, and will help others too to seek and be better in life!!

You have to think to increase light to become happiness!! And work at it even daily I say.

Habits also help, but bad ones can destroy... it seems to me like smoking, boozing, drugs, hate... ones!! Good habits are great... you will accent those too and mainly in your story?

Glad always to read your news,

hugs Melb!
