Songs that remind us of Heath....
« on: January 27, 2008, 10:16:25 am »
I have seen some great song lyrics posted all over this Remembering Heath forum. Let's gather them here! What are the songs that remind you of Heath?

Here's one by Jake Holmes, a singer that I think Heath would have appreciated a lot. It's folky, a bit like Nick Drake, but a lot older, this song is from the early 70's.

Jake Holmes - Just as lost as me
Shadow eyes, in cloaks of answers
Withold their secrets eloquently
Here's a song for all the people
Just as lost as me

The easy way the knowing glances
Seeing light that i can't see
Here's a song for all outsiders
Just as lost as me

Private doors, straight and narrow minds
No matter how you look
To see you must be blind
Hide and seek
The king has got new clothes
Everybody understands, and everybody knows

Here's a song for walking wounded
Just as lost as me

Also Happy Ending by Mika, a song that June (bigheart) recommended last week and has been my favorite since then, a few days before the terrible news struck. It gives me goose bumps now.

Happy Ending lyrics

This is the way you left me,
I'm not pretending.
No hope, no love, no glory,
No Happy Ending.
This is the way that we love,
Like it's forever.
Then live the rest of our life,
But not together.

Wake up in the morning, stumble on my life
Can't get no love without sacrifice
If anything should happen, I guess I wish you well
A little bit of heaven, but a little bit of hell

This is the hardest story that I've ever told
No hope, or love, or glory
Happy endings gone forever more
I feel as if I feel as if I'm wasted
And I'm wastin' everyday

This is the way you left me,
I'm not pretending.
No hope, no love, no glory,
No Happy Ending.
This is the way that we love,
Like it's forever.
Then live the rest of our life,
But not together.

2 o'clock in the morning, something's on my mind
Can't get no rest; keep walkin' around
If I pretend that nothin' ever went wrong, I can get to my sleep
I can think that we just carried on

This is the hardest story that I've ever told
No hope, or love, or glory
Happy endings gone forever more
I feel as if I feel as if I'm wasted
And I'm wastin' everyday

This is the way you left me,
I'm not pretending.
No hope, no love, no glory,
No Happy Ending.
This is the way that we love,
Like it's forever.
Then live the rest of our life,
But not together.

A Little bit of love, little bit of love
Little bit of love, little bit of love [repeat]

I feel as if I feel as if I'm wasted
And I'm wastin' everyday

This is the way you left me,
I'm not pretending.
No hope, no love, no glory,
No Happy Ending.
This is the way that we love,
Like it's forever.
To live the rest of our life,
But not together.

Edited to add: the video is so poignant, the piece of string around his wrist with the balloon, the floating up to heaven. Damn. crying again.

Rickie Lee Jones - On Saturday Afternoons in 1963

The most as you'll ever go
Is back where you used to know
If grown-ups could laugh this slow
Where as you watch the hour snow
Years may go by

So hold on to your special friend
Here, you'll need something to keep her in :
"Now you stay inside this foolish grin ... "
Though any day your secrets end
Then again
Years may go by

You saved your own special friend
'Cuz here you need something to hide her in
And you stay inside that foolish grin
When everyday now secrets end
Oh and then again
Years may go by

No clips or links or stuff, but just to add, a long time ago on the thread about songs that remind us of Brokeback Mountain, I mentioned that Desperado, by the Eages, reminded me of Ennis. I could say the same thing here, it reminds me of Heath--maybe because it reminds me of Ennis.  :-\

I will never, ever EVER be able to hear "Can't Take My Eyes Off of You" again without seeing a smiling Heath singing and dancing in the bleachers.

I'm a big big big Queen fan and I've only now been able to listen to the lyrics without crying.

QUEEN-No-One but You (only the good die young)

A hand above the water
An angel reaching for the sky
Is it raining in heaven -
Do you want us to cry?
And everywhere the broken-hearted
On every lonely avenue
No-one could reach them
No-one but you

One by one
Only the Good die young
They're only flying too close to the sun
And life goes on -
Without you...

Another Tricky Situation
I get the drowin' in the Blues
And I find myself thinkin'
Well - what would you do?
Yes! - it was such an operation
Forever paying every due
Hell, you made a sensation
You found a way through - and

One by one
Only the Good die young
They're only flyin' too close to the sun
We'll remember -
Forever...

And now the party must be over
I guess we'll never understand
The sense of your leaving

Was in the way it was planned?
And so we grace another table
And raise our glasses one more time
There's a face at the window
And I ain't never, never sayin' goodbye...

One by one
Only the Good die young
They're only flyin' too close to the sun
Cryin' for nothing
Cryin' for no-one
No-one but you

OK, so I have never heard this song, but I had a look at some Bob Dylan lyrics and I found this one.....

"Time Passes Slowly"

Time passes slowly up here in the mountain
We sit beside the bridges and walk beside the fountains
Catch the wild fishes that float though the stream
Time passes slowly when you're lost in a dream.

Once I had a sweetheart, she was fine and good-looking
She sat in the kitchen while her mama was cooking
Stared on out the window to the stars high above
Time passes slowly when you're searching for love.

Ain't no reason to go in a wagon to town
Ain't no reason to go to the fair
Ain't no reason to go up, ain't no reason to go down
Ain't no reason to go anywhere.

Time passes slowly up here in the daylight
We stare straight ahead and try so hard to stay right
Like the red rose of summer that blooms in the day
Time passes slowly and fades away.

OK so I don't expect anyone to know the SONG, but the poem maybe.  This was set by Aaron Copland in a series of songs.  I was listening to them a few days ago, and Heath flashed in my head when this one started.

HEART, we will forget him!
  You and I, to-night!
You may forget the warmth he gave,
  I will forget the light.

When you have done, pray tell me,
  That I my thoughts may dim;
Haste! lest while you’re lagging,
  I may remember him!

This is a beautiful song by the Sugababes that came out a few months ago...

[youtube=425,350]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pBT-V-hj4Y0[/youtube]

If I could hold you close
Like you were never gone
If I could hear your voice
You'd tell me to be strong

But sometimes
I just can't
I just don't understand
Why you had to go
Why you had to go
I guess I'll never know

Ain't it funny how you think
You're gonna be OK
Till you remember things ain't never
Gonna be the same again
Ain't it crazy how you think
You've got your whole life planned
Just to find that it was never ever
In your hands
Change

If I could get to you
I'd be there in a minute
My world don't make no sense
Not without you in it

And sometimes
I just cry
Can't say I
Don't know why
But why'd you have to go?
And leave me here alone

Ain't it funny how you think
You're gonna be OK
Till you remember things ain't never
Gonna be the same again
Ain't it crazy how you think
You've got your whole life planned
Just to find out it was never ever
In your hands
Change

You don't see it coming
Change
When the future comes knocking
It changed
It can make you and break you too
You just have to make it through

Ain't it funny how you think
You're gonna be OK
Till you remember things ain't never
Gonna be the same again
Ain't it crazy how you think
You've got your whole life planned
Just to find out it was never ever
In your hands
Change

Change, change
Change, change

Change

My boyfriend at the time actually pulled that after our first big fight, because he knew how that scene went straight to my heart. Luckily I stopped him before it got really out of hand... he came to my JOB!!

Crap. I was actually enjoying the Super Bowl commercials until a Planters one came on that used "Can't Take My Eyes Off You." I actually felt my heart drop to my ankles. Now I have that same sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that I had when I first heard of Heath's passing.

God, this sucks. It feels like it will never go away. I mean, I know I'll learn to live with it, but I don't think I'll ever get over it. It physically hurts.

Poor Michelle, Matilda and the Ledgers. Take what every single one of us feels, add it all together and multiply it by a million... and it still can't come close to a fraction of what they're all going through.

this song reminds me of several things.  first of all, it reminds me of ennis, and what he must've been feeling after jack's death.  i think he decided to go to his daughter's wedding in the end because he realized the people he loved in his life were worth sacraficing for.  i think jack's death taught him that.
it reminds me of jack and ennis's big fight at the end when ennis told jack to leave him be, and that he's "no one and nowhere".
it reminds me of everything ennis would be missing about jack.
it reminds me of everything ennis would be regretting.....and how maybe in the light of jack's death, ennis would've given anything to have the chance to be with him again, and all the changes ennis probably made in his heart that jack will never know.

"The Difficult Kind"

I think I was wrong
I think you were right
That all my angry words
Will keep me up at night
And through the old screen door
I still hear you say
Oh, Honey won't you stop
Treating me that way

[Chorus]
If you could only see
What love has made of me
Then I'd no longer be in your mind
The difficult kind
Cause babe I've changed

Tell it to me slow
Tell me with your eyes
If anyone should know
How to let it slide
I swear I can see you
Coming up the drive
And there ain't nothing like regret
To remind you you're alive

[Chorus]

I crossed the canyon a thousand times
But never noticed what was mine
What you'll remember of me tonight
Well, it almost makes me cry
Yeah, it almost makes me cry

Oh ballbreaking moon and ridiculing stars
The older I get, the closer you are
Don't you have somewhere that you need to be?
Instead of hanging here making a fool of me

If you could only see
What love has made of me
Then I'd no longer be in your mind
The difficult kind
But you won't see the change in me
If you could only see
What love has made of me
But I'll forever be in your mind
The difficult kind
But you won't see
No you won't see
The good in me
But babe I've changed
Cause babe I've changed

I've said it before - Linkin Park's "Shadow of the Day" will forever make me think of Heath.  It came out the week he died - at least it started getting a lot of airplay that week or the week just before.  And it just - fits.

Judging from the sheer number of Youtube tributes to him featuring this song, I'm not alone in that view.

Here's my favorite of all of them so far:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KVGC5J33Eas

I'll post the lyrics if anyone would like, but I think you have to hear the song to really get its full impact.
No more beans!

A Song for Heath

When i find myself in times of trouble
Mother mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
And in my hour of darkness
She is standing right in front of me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

And when the broken hearted people
Living in the world agree,
There will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is
Still a chance that they will see
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be. yeah
There will be an answer, let it be.

And when the night is cloudy,
There is still a light that shines on me,
Shine on until tomorrow, let it be.
I wake up to the sound of music
Mother mary comes to me
Speaking words of wisdom, let it be.
Let it be, let it be.
There will be an answer, let it be.
Let it be, let it be,
Whisper words of wisdom, let it be.

Goodbye, Michelle, my little one.
You gave me love and helped me find the sun.
And every time that I was down
you would always come around
and get my feet back on the ground.
Goodbye, Michelle, it's hard to die
when all the bird are singing in the sky,
Now that the spring is in the air.
With the flowers ev'rywhere.
I whish that we could both be there.
We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun.
But the stars we could reach
were just starfishs on the beach

That's beautiful Susiebk! Welcome to Bettermost by the way!  :-*

10 Things I Hate About You..

This song has captured my heart for Heath Ledger.. the song that reminds me of his beautiful face and lovely smile.

Ladies and gentlemen... The song Can't Take My Eyes Off Of You...

[youtube=425,350]
[/youtube]

[CHORUS 1]
You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off of you.
You'd be like heaven to touch. I wanna
hold you so much. At long last love has
arrived. And I thank God I'm alive. You're
just too good to be true. Can't take my
eyes off of you.
Pardon the way that I stare. There's nothing
else to compare. The sight of you leaves me
weak. There are no words left to speak.
But if you feel like I feel. Please let me know
that it's real. You're just too good to be true.
Can't take my eyes off of you.
[CHORUS 2]
I need you baby, if it's quite all right,
I love you baby, you warm a lonely night. I love
you baby. Trust in me when I say It's OK: Oh pretty
baby, don't let me down I pray. Oh pretty
baby, now that I found you, stay. And let me
love you, oh baby let me love you, oh baby....
Repeat Chorus 1
[To fade]
I need you baby, and if it's quite all right,
I love you baby, you warm a lonely night. I love
you baby. Trust in me when I say: It's OK Oh pretty
baby, don't let me down I pray. Oh pretty
baby, now that I found you, stay. And let me
love you, oh baby let me love you, oh baby....

Heard this one on the radio on my way home from work today, and certain lines really struck me.  I realize it's about John Lennon, but it applies.

Empty Garden ~ Elton John

What happened here,
As the New York sunset disappeared?
I found an empty garden among the flagstones there.
Who lived here?
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot,
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop.
And now it all looks strange.
It's funny how one insect can damage so much grain.

And what's it for,
This little empty garden by the brownstone door?
And in the cracks along the sidewalk nothing grows no more.
Who lived here?
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot,
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop.
And we are so amazed! We're crippled and we're dazed....
A gardener like that one, no one can replace.

And I've been knocking, but no one answers.
And I've been knocking, most all the day.
Oh and I've been calling, oh hey, hey, Johnny!
Can't you come out to play?

And through their tears,
Some say he farmed his best in younger years.
But he'd have said that roots grow stronger, if only he could hear.
Who lived there?
He must have been a gardener that cared a lot,
Who weeded out the tears and grew a good crop.
Now we pray for rain, and with every drop that falls
We hear, we hear your name.

And I've been knocking, but no one answers.
And I've been knocking, most all the day.
Oh, and I've been calling, oh hey, hey, Johnny!
Can't you come out to play,
In your empty garden?
Johnny?
Can't you come out to play, in your empty garden?

"Is This The End"-Creed

Lately, I've been hearing one my favorite rock bands that unfortunately no longer together, Creed. I was listening to their song, "Is This The End", which is from the Scream 3 soundtrack and the song is very emotionally moving. This song and "One Last Breath" moves me. It makes me think about Heath. It makes me sad when I think about him when I listen to this song, but happy because he's free from all the sufferings of the world. The song also makes me think about Jake and how he's feeling. This song makes think of how each of them must've felt and their friendship.  :(  It chokes me up to think how it must've been for them.

The rage in my eyes
Could have compared to the eye of a sun
Then rain
Took its course through the hands of the Son

Repent for all time
The world is at war leaving all fault behind

So, is this the end for us my friend?
So, is this the end for us my friend?

The stains in the sky
Are there to remind us of man and his fight
When two worlds collide
One steals the life like a thief in the night
So to the sky
He holds the keys to your life and mine

So, is this the end for us my friend?
So, is this the end for us my friend?
So, is this the end for us my friend?

Well as though we rise
As the day breaks the dawn
As the moon hides the sun
Oh, the sun

No more sorrow
All those crying days are gone
No more sorrow, now it's gone
Now it's gone
Now it's gone

So, is this the end for us my friend?

So, is this the end for us my friend?
So, is this the end for us my friend?
So, is this the end for us my friend?

So, is this the end for us my friend?

I love Creed and this song, too, Gabreya.  One Last Breath used to remind me mostly of my own battle with depression that damn near killed me, and now it makes me think of Heath, instead.  :(

One Last Breath

Please come now I think I'm falling
I'm holding to all I think is safe
It seems I found the road to nowhere
And I'm trying to escape
I yelled back when I heard thunder
But I'm down to one last breath
And with it let me say
Let me say

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet
Ain't so far down

I'm looking down now that it's over
Reflecting on all of my mistakes
I thought I found the road to somewhere
Somewhere in His grace
I cried out "Heaven save me"
But I'm down to one last breath
And with it let me say
Let me say

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking
That maybe six feet
Ain't so far down

Sad eyes follow me
But I still believe there's something left for me
So please come stay with me
'Cause I still believe there's something left for you and me
For you and me
For you and me

Hold me now
I'm six feet from the edge and I'm thinking...

No more beans!

Hello, ednbarby. That's another good song from Creed. I'm glad you'd beat your depression. And I understand how it makes you think about Heath.
You know what's crazy? I get sad everytime I listen to either of their songs because they've broken up. They were one of the greatest bands ever! :(

"I Must Be Dreaming" by Evanescence seems to say it all about how I feel most of the time. Ever since Heath had passed, I'd feel like I'm wallowing in depression for nothing as if I'm stuck in a horrible dream. Like everyone else, I feel like I'm stuck in an endless nightmare where Heath is just gone forever and never coming back.
This song is definetly how I feel. :(

How can I pretend
that I don't see
What you hide so carelessly?
I saw her bleed
You heard me breathe
And I froze inside myself
And turned away
I must be dreaming

We all live
We all die
That does not begin to justify you

It's not what it seems
Not what you think
No, I must be dreaming
It's only in my mind
Not in real life
No, I must be dreaming

Have to know,
I've got to tell someone
Tell them what I
know you've done
I fear you
But spoken fears
fears can come true

We all live
We all die
That does not begin to justify you

It's not what it seems
Not what you think
No, I must be dreaming
It's only in my mind
Not in real life
No, I must be dreaming

We all live
We all die
That does not begin justify you

It's not what it seems
Not what you think
No, I must be dreaming
It's only in my mind
Not in real life
No, I must be dreaming

(fading)
Not what it seems
Not what you think
I must be dreaming
Lost in my mind
Not in real life
I must be dreaming

Btw, I love Evanescence.
