I was expelled after making a Brokeback tribute film.
« on: March 12, 2006, 11:10:35 pm »
I made a gay love story set in a high school environment as my English final.

Read about it at my site. -- www.BrandonFlyte.com

It's just such a shame that the double standard for same-sex relationship exists. I'm personally straight, and so are the people who made the movie with me, but the fact that we wanted to do something bold and support the gay movement gets me expelled, I just think it's insane. This is the civil rights movement of my generation. Gay or not, I plan to be a part of it.

I was expelled after making a Brokeback tribute film

WHAT?!?!?!?!

Hey Brandon, this has all the makings of a major national story.  I don't know how far you want to take this, but this could become a huge deal.  There are several gay rights organizations that have no issue taking on the cases of straight folks caught up in the culture wars, so there are some contacts there.  But the media can also make this into a major issue.  But you have to make the decision about how far you want to go with this.  Let us know and then I will offer some contacts and advice carrying forward.

Welcome to our world, Brandon.

Sigh.

Does your high school have a Staight-Gay Alliance chapter?  Probably not, but it sounds like it needs one.

Let us know what we can do to support you.

My school does have a Gay-Straight Alliance. Very small, but I don't think they know of this yet.

Nancy, I just wanted you to know how touched I am by your comments. If you have any specific suggestions for how I should handle this, I'm all ears.

You can start by TELLING EVERYONE.  Tell the full and complete story with all the facts, and the truth will out.
Come make the pledge to go Back to Brokeback!

Hi Brandon....!!  YES.....tell EVERYONE and ANYONE who will listen.  Send a copy of your posting on your web page fo your local Newspaper.  Letters to the Editor!!    Shorten it a bit and send the PERTINENT stuff.  Often editors won't pour through long submissions.  Contact the local branch of ACLU!!  I don't know where you live...Brandon but if you can't find a number to call...let us KNOW.  We'll find it for you....believe me.

Stay in touch and let us know if you need ANY help at all.  We're with you in this!!  And Brandon?  It would be MUCH easier to just 'let this go' and not fight.  But I can tell you're a guy with a heart and soul.  Not a person who will let this 'injustice' done to you....slide by!!

Much Love.....Nancy

Brandon,
I agree vehemently with all said above.  Let us know if we can be any help.  As was mentioned, a good place to start is the local ACLU office.  This is the sort of thing that outrages me and makes me want to get out my soapbox.  Much love and courage to you, however you decide to approach it.

I'll be on KOIN 6 news tonight at 5pm. If you're in the PDX area, check it out.

My site will have updates, as well.

This article just appeared in The Advocate, saying Brandon has been invited back to his school.

Brandon, is this true?  If so, is this a victory or just the spin your school made to make the publicity go away?

In any case, you're definitely getting attention!  ;D
